Twin brother duo MC4D have carved out their own lane in electronic music with the release of their debut album COMPASS, built around a distinctive blend they call Folktronica.
In a scene heavy on house and bass-driven sounds, MC4D have developed a production approach that pulls from indie, folk, and melodic house. The result feels both grounded and elevated—electronic tracks with organic textures that connect with listeners who grew up on festival anthems as well as those drawn to singer-songwriter territory.
Here is what the brothers had to say about their most comprehensive piece of work:
“COMPASS is the culmination of the last three years we’ve spent developing and refining our sound,” the duo said. “We drew upon the indie, folk, alternative, and electronic influences that inspired us when we first started making music to create a style that we feel truly stands apart in today’s EDM landscape. We aimed for the album to capture the melodic storytelling that dance music has largely lost, and we’re excited for the album’s nostalgic yet fresh production to resonate with new and legacy audiences across EDM, folk, and indie. We’re proud that we’re forging our own path with COMPASS, choosing not to chase current trends but to build our vision and community around something different.”
‘You Take Me Home’ with Walk Off The Earth delivers a driving yet comforting energy, blending acoustic-tinged guitars with electronic builds and a singalong chorus that captures the feeling of finding belonging on the road.
‘Sunsets’ strips things back slightly for a more atmospheric moment, letting shimmering synths and gentle folk textures paint wide-open landscapes while maintaining a subtle danceable undercurrent.
‘Hey Son’ featuring Sam Feldt, VIZE, and Aloe Blacc stands out as a polished, anthemic collaboration, with Aloe Blacc’s soulful delivery riding crisp production and a memorable hook that balances introspection with festival-ready lift.
‘Anything’ with Fred Well brings a rawer edge, pairing vulnerable lyrics with pulsing electronics and indie-pop sensibilities that keep the momentum alive without losing emotional weight.
‘Save You The Trouble’ featuring gavn! shifts into a smoother, mid-tempo groove where intimate vocals intertwine with MC4D’s signature folktronica layers, resulting in a track that feels both personal and expansive.
‘Best Is Yet To Come’ with KONG leans optimistic, its bright melodies and building drops reinforcing the album’s theme of journey and possibility through clean, melodic production.
‘Lay Your Head’ featuring Frank Walker and Joe Cleere offers a tender, reflective breather, combining soft folk elements with gentle electronic textures for a moment of quiet connection amid the larger sonic landscape.
‘Be Here With Me Now’ with Łaszewo and gavn! returns to euphoric territory, its hypnotic topline and layered production creating an immersive, present-focused anthem that highlights the duo’s strength in blending electronic and organic sounds.
The remaining tracks—including ‘Home To You’ with Dustin Lynch, ‘Postcard (All I Need Is You),’ ‘Afterlife (The Afterglow)’ with Elliot Greer, and others—continue threading the same Folktronica thread, mixing storytelling, road-trip warmth, and melodic structures that tie the entire project together into a cohesive, cross-genre statement.
Overall, each song on COMPASS maintains MC4D’s distinct balance of familiar indie-folk warmth and modern electronic craftsmanship, making the album flow naturally from high-energy moments to more introspective ones without losing the overall flow.
MC4D closed 2025 with their ‘Wanderings’ headline tour, including a sold-out show at New York’s Irving Plaza and festival sets at Northcoast, Project Glow, Sand In My Boots, Breakaway, Calgary Stampede, and Riverbeat. 2026 builds on that momentum with major festival appearances at Lollapalooza and Escapade Music Festival, plus a series of free ‘Open Air Sessions’ pop-up shows across the US.
