Electronic music artist Damian Lazarus has shared a moving tribute to his ex-wife and friend, Zoe Lazarus, who passed away recently after a battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. In an emotional social media post, Lazarus announced that Zoe died peacefully in a London hospice.
Lazarus reflected on their enduring bond, which began in the early days of the Drum and Bass music scene. They met while working in the music industry, started a club together, and performed as DJs under the name PM Scientists. He noted that Zoe was highly respected in music circles and even produced a remix for her heroes, the German krautrock band Can. Zoe later shifted her focus, becoming a successful and sought-after trend forecaster.
The couple married in 2004, but after 12 years together, they decided to continue their relationship as best friends rather than lovers. Lazarus described their decision as an intelligent recognition of how their love should evolve, stating that “love takes many forms.” He also shared a poignant memory of Zoe dancing at Glastonbury just three weeks before her passing, noting that she refused to let her illness prevent her from living life to the fullest. Lazarus believes she knew it was “her last dance.”
Damian heartbrokenly shares, “Having lost both her parents to the disease at a young age, we always knew the same bomb was ticking inside her but nothing prepares you for the inevitable, especially when just 3 weeks ago we were at Glastonbury having a dance together.” Read the full post below. We send our warmest hugs to him and Zoe’s survivors. Our thoughts are with you.
