Alok Releases Indigenous Ancestry Inspired Album ‘The Future is Ancestral’

Brazilian superstar DJ Alok is breaking new ground with his latest project, The Future is Ancestral, an album that transcends music and becomes a movement. Out today, just in time for Indigenous People’s Day, the album is a culmination of over 500 hours of studio work and features collaborations with over 50 indigenous musicians.

The Future is Ancestral is an immersive soundscape that invites listeners to experience the richness and resilience of indigenous cultures. With eight unique tracks sung by various communities, the album weaves a narrative of cultural resurgence and innovation. Each song carries a powerful message, urging us to appreciate and preserve the wisdom of our ancestral roots.

“I feel honored to be able to serve as a platform to amplify the voices of indigenous ancestry. ‘The Future Is Ancestral’ is not just a musical project; it is a movement to reforest the imagination of our society and its perception of indigenous peoples and the importance of their presence in multiple territories,– Alok

Started in 2021, The Future is Ancestral has quickly gained international momentum. Tracks from the album have been featured at prestigious events like Global Citizen Live (2021) and the pre-opening of Climate Week at the United Nations headquarters in New York (2022 and 2023). Most recently, the project received a pre-launch celebration at the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles. UNESCO itself has acknowledged “The Future is Ancestral” as a valuable contribution to the International Decade of Indigenous Languages. The project highlights the importance of indigenous voices within social and cultural spaces, fostering a more inclusive society.
