[Event Review] EMBRZ Sells Out Debut Toronto Show

Last Saturday, This Never Happened fans in Toronto came out to party with none other than EMBRZ. If you love emotional dance music, or chill house, EMBRZ is the guy you should be listening to. Being an avid fan of Lane 8’s label, this event was one I couldn’t miss.

Jack Casey the Dublin-based producer just released his sophomore album In Our Own Way under his moniker EMBRZ. He kicked started his North American tour last weekend with his first stop in New York at the famous Elsewhere rooftop before his long awaited Toronto debut. What a great feeling it is to have both your opening weekend shows be sold out, eh?

Opening & Closing Duties

Starting off the night, the decks at Wiggleroom in Toronto had Adina Nova set the mood for the fans. The Romanian Canadian is a new DJ is town and has been spinning at local clubs like Parlour since last year. She had the crowd engaged from early on especially with her new remix of the classic ‘Stolen Dance’ by Milky Chance. At 11pm, R8YZ a veteran Toronto DJ turned the energy up on the dance floor. If you have been part of the Toronto music scene you would have seen R8YZ open for Above & Beyond, Dosem, Grum, Lane 8, Marsh, Tinlicker, Yotto and the list goes on. He had the honor of opening and closing duties.

EMBRZ

The venue was cozy and intimate with the crowd having eyes on Jack entering close to 1:00am. The crowd went wild as EMBRZ started off his set with an all time favorite ‘Let Me In‘. You definitely didn’t want to stand next to me as I sang my lungs out for the next one and a half hour. He blended ‘Let Me In‘ with ‘Hope‘ and of course this already set us up for an amazing night. You could see the crowd having a great time as they made space for a group of shufflers throwing it down with tracks like ‘Be Mine‘. I am sure the whole room was shedding tears while we danced to ‘Over & Over‘. This track is my favourite from his new album! EMBRZ kicked back more tracks from In Our Own Way – ‘Iou’ and ‘Wildflower’.

EMBRZ mixed in classics like ‘Father Ocean‘, ‘Oh Miles’ ‘Brightest Lights‘, ‘The Veldt Cinema‘ to name a few, those tracks were crowd pleasers. I can tell you there was not a dull moment and the energy the crowd had was impeccable. Overall it was a great set and had the perfect ending with ‘Run‘. Trust me if EMBRZ is playing at cities around you, you wouldn’t want to miss seeing him play! It was a perfect evening of melodic house and soulful music.

Jack landed on the This Never Happened imprint in 2020 with his tracks ‘ Heal‘ and ‘Snow‘. He then went onto releasing his debut album Moments in 2021. Listen to his music here if you aren’t convinced yet.

EMBRZ will be at Sound in LA this Friday and then Celebrities in Vancouver on Saturday. Check out his tour dates below.
