Discothèque Launches Scented Candles Inspired by Iconic Nightclubs

Not able to make it to all those shows you were lusting after this summer? No worries, LA-based luxury fragrance brand, Discothèque, has you covered. They have created a line of scented candles inspired by the “unique atmosphere and cultural significance” of iconic nightclubs.

The candles are inspired by rave landmarks from the seventies and early eighties—Italy’s Crisco Disco, Milk!, Mudd Club and Manchester’s Haçienda. The line launched earlier this year with an appropriately disco ball-themed pop-up in Soho, London.

The range of club-inspired candles currently features nine scents—selected for their unique vibes and significance in clubbing culture. The Mudd Club candle sets the scene of “a night that you don’t want to end” with descriptions of vanilla clouds, a peach cocktail and balmy breeze. The Milk! candle brings to mind more of an outdoor party with mentions of “obsidian cliffs, knotted trunks of juniper, a dense forest floor.”

Discothèque founders Jessie Willner and Hanover Booth told DJ Mag that the unexpected combo came from their “love of the energy on a dance floor.” They added that music and scent can “create immersive sensory experiences….evoke emotions, trigger memories and transport us to different times and places.”

You can purchase these candles depending on your mood or the color you prefer. You can also purchase decade trios featuring the three candles mirroring clubs from the seventies, eighties and nineties. Willner and Booth did note that they are not opposed to expanding the featured clubs in the future. “We’ve intentionally focused on nightclubs that have mostly existed in the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s… and there are still so many more we’re passionate about. But we love working on things that excite us, so if that happens with working on something more contemporary—then absolutely,” they said.

Discothèque candles are handcrafted in small batches in the UK using sustainable, high-quality vegan wax. They burn for approximately 45 hours and come in a signature gradient glass that can be reused after the candle is finished.
