Frank Ocean Pulls Out of Coachella Weekend 2

Following a controversial performance last Sunday, Frank Ocean has officially pulled out of headlining Weekend 2 of Coachella. According to a statement put out by his reps, the singer injured his leg on festival grounds the week leading up to his Weekend 1 performance. On doctor’s advice, he cannot perform weekend 2 ‘due to two fractures and a sprain in his left leg.’

The statement concludes with the following remarks from Ocean: ‘It was chaotic. There is some beauty in chaos. It isn’t what I intended to show but I did enjoy being out there and I’ll see you soon.’ — Frank Ocean.”

Sources are reporting that Blink 182 will replace him as the Sunday night headliners.

Frank Ocean’s Weekend 1 Set Met With Heavy Criticism

Ocean’s performance last Sunday, April 16, was not received well. First, it was announced that his set would no longer be live streamed, as originally promised, to the dismay of many fans watching from home. Those in attendance reported he didn’t take the stage until over an hour after his scheduled start time; it was later revealed this was because of an elaborate performance involving an ice rink and dozens of skaters was planned but suddenly called off.

Attendees also reported Ocean’s performance overall seemed lackluster: he seemed low energy, was behind a screen for most of his set, and at some points he wasn’t even singing at all. Then, after about 40 minutes, the show ended abruptly with Ocean saying, ‘Guys, I’m being told it’s curfew, so that’s the end of the show. Thank you so much.’ It was later reported that Coachella was in fact fined $117k for breaking curfew.

Google Analytics Indicate Ticket Buyers Are Not Happy

According to Google analytics via CasinoAlpha.com, Google searches for “sell Coachella tickets” more than quadrupled after Weekend 1. Whether this was due to Ocean’s performance, or just coincidence is open to interpretation.

‘…The festival takes place over two weekends and after the heavy criticism that Frank Ocean’s set received, these findings suggest that many are looking to sell their ticket for the second weekend, whether this be out of disappointment or fear that Frank Ocean may pull out of performing altogether.
