Firefly Festival Taking Hiatus in 2023

After ten successful years, Firefly Music festival will not return in 2023. The annual four-day event headlining Dua Lipa, Halsey, My Chemical Romance and Green Day was most recently held in September. It is still unclear why they are taking 2023 off and if the festival will take place elsewhere.

The music company took to social media to break the news,

We’ll be cherishing these moments until we reunite. After 10 magical years of Firefly in The Woodlands, we’ve decided to take a year to recharge our lights. We will see you in 2024!

Over the last decade, Firefly lineups have included The Killers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Blink 182, Eminem, Paul McCartney and many more drawing a crowd of over 90,000 fans. The multi-genre event also features dance music headliners including Seven Lions, Jamie XX and Gryffin.

Organizers at the Dover Motor Speedway that lease the property for the festival site, released a statement saying,

Across 10 events and 11 years, the Firefly Music Festival has given the mid-Atlantic region countless musical memories. Dover Motor Speedway has been proud to co-host Firefly since its inception and we look forward to its return to the Woodlands in 2024,” it read. “While we look forward to Firefly’s return, we will continue to explore sports and entertainment opportunities to bring to our property for the community to enjoy ― such as the ‘Gift of Lights’ drive-thru event set for this holiday season.

The event was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic. The festival moved from the traditional summer months to September in 2021 and 2022. Fans are hoping to be partying back in June when the Firefly festival returns in 2024.
