Nightclubs in Brussels are going to resume their activities despite the Covid restrictions in place. On February 18th, nightlife spaces will open back up, with or without the permission of the authorities. Belgium has been under Covid restrictions for quite a while, but now, representatives of the clubs and events in the country can’t take it anymore.

We cooperated: since the first two weeks and after that for the few months as well as eventually we closed for two years, but enough is enough”, said Lorenzo Serra, a member of the Night Federation, which represents clubs in Brussels. He also mentioned that the nightspots sector has been “without perspective and with inadequate financial support since the temporary relaunch in the fall of 2021.”

It seems that the nightlife sector is not an urgent matter for the authorities. Even though the topic has been discussed in the last Consultative Committee, nothing happened yet. That is exactly why an organization like Brussels’ Night Federation wants to take action.

Obviously, the virus spreads more easily in the winter. However, this is the season where nightclubs can take advantage of the weather, as they don’t have to compete with outdoor festivals. Many European countries like England, and Denmark already gave approval for clubs to open in order to help them survive. With festival season right around the corner in Europe, the matter is pressing. Many can understand why Brussels’s nightclubs are taking a stand like this one.
