DJs Begin Removing EDC Las Vegas From Their Schedules

As Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas holds out on postponing its May dates amid the coronavirus spread, DJs booked to play appear to have begun removing the show from their schedules. It is as good of an indication as any that the largest dance music festival in North America will be pushed to later this year.

The DJs pulling EDC from their tour dates were noticed by a Reddit user who posted about it early Tuesday.

“Just went online through a few DJs tour schedules. Saw that Garrix, W&W, David Guetta, Timmy Trumpet, Vini Vici all removed EDC from their tour schedule. Probably even more but did not look any further,” Reddit user nickxix1 wrote. “Guess we do not have to wait till 30days prior to the event now.”

Indeed, Martin Garrix and the four other DJs mentioned did not have EDC on their websites as of Tuesday morning. Garrix’s first date is now June 21 at Escapade Music Festival in Ottawa. David Guetta has multiple dates for Encore Beach Club in Las Vegas in April and May starting on April 4, but EDC which is scheduled for May 15 to 17, does not appear.

Let’s not forget DJs pruning their tour schedules was also the first tip-off that Ultra Music Festival was canceled earlier this month (which feels like an eternity ago).

W&W’s first date is June 19 at Summer Festival in Marseille, France. Timmy Trumpet’s first date is June 6 at World Club Dome in Frankfurt, Germany. And Vini Vici’s only has two shows listed, one in April and another in December.

In the Reddit thread, several other users commented agreeing that it seems clear EDC will not happen on its original dates. User nickxix1 replies that June looks unlikely, but opines that September or October have good chances.

EDC Updates

Insomniac founder and CEO, Pasquale Rotella, has remained determined to have EDC in May and hoped it could be the first music festival after the coronavirus pandemic. But as COVID-19 infection numbers continue to rise and President Donald Trump extends social distancing guidelines to April 30, it is looking increasingly impossible.

On Thursday, Rotella issued a “Headliner update” showing that detailed postponement plans are in the works. He stated that Insomniac is “taking things day by day—still working toward May but keeping our options open.”

“Despite what other festivals are doing and despite some people pressing us to postpone the show right now, we don’t want to make a premature decision on moving the EDC date—or worse, picking the wrong postponement date,” Rotella stated. “We have contingency plans for June as well as other dates in the fall, and we will inform you no less than 30 days out from the original EDC date.”

EDC seemed to inch toward postponement with another post on Saturday. Rotella informed ticket layaway plan purchasers that automatic payments will be frozen.

When we know the decision on EDC, you will be notified by email of the new payment date so you have time to prepare,” Rotella stated.

Well Headliners, it appears that EDC has all but pulled the plug for May. So between now and the 30-day mark on April 15, plan accordingly. And keep in mind that new dates open up the possibility of a new or modified lineup!
