Iceland Will Pay Artists 25% Of Expenses To Record Music There

“Killing two birds with one stone,” an infamous motto that rings across the busy lives of music producers. When time and logistics go hand-in-hand for artists looking to travel and work simultaneously, Iceland’s got your back. Freshly launching their new initiative, ‘Record in Iceland,’ The Icelandic government will cover 25% of music recording expenses.

Upon signing up with the program, artists will be reimbursed for several studio amenities. As stated in a Record in Iceland Q&A packet, the program will cover things like studio rental fees, wage expenses for hiring others, post-production, and any travel/lodging costs.

Managing the program is Iceland Music‘s director, Sigtryggur Baldursson. His explanation for describing the program entails the following:

Because of our glorious isolation, Iceland has nurtured quite a unique music culture. Until now, these studios have been something of a hidden secret, but our aim with Record in Iceland is toopen these facilities to a far wider range of international artists and businesses, and to make them a compelling commercial proposition.

Each recording needs to be under 30 minutes and must be released no more than 18 months after the sessions. To receive reimbursement, the applying producer must submit and include receipts for all expenses.

Iceland is home to some well-known artists like Bjork and Of Mice and Men. To see a more in-depth look at this program, check out Record in Iceland’s video below.
