[Event Review] Montreal’s Bal en Blanc 25th-Anniversary Edition

We’re still trying to fathom the sheer plethora of insanity that occurred at Bal en Blanc from Friday, June 28, 2019, to Monday, July 1, 2019, at the New City Gas Complex in Montreal, Quebec. After three consecutive nights of dancing from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, our energy levels are low, but our hearts are full. We absolutely can’t wait to share some of the highlights that we experienced; let’s get to it!

Bal en Blanc is an undeniably iconic electronic music festival in Canada. This year marked its 25th-anniversary edition. If you’ve heard of this all-white series of events, you know that it’s become woven into the cultural fabric of Montreal. The fest’ is usually held annually during the Easter holiday weekend, however, for the exciting anniversary, Produkt decided to shake things up and host the event during the Canada Day long weekend – fitting, isn’t it?

The hardworking team of organizers had a hiccup with the original venue; however, they quickly turned things around and completely transformed the New City Gas Complex into a true ravers paradise!

Kicking off the highly anticipated fest’, one of the most creative parties in clubland right now, Elrow touched down in Canada for its Canadian debut!

When we first walked up to the Complex, we were astonished by the mindblowing transformation! Decor-wise, the organizers kept the white theme in mind, and Elrow added its unique Rowllywood touch.

We were greeted by New City Gas’ friendly staff; the security team directed us to the designated entrances, while we were gifted with a complimentary Redbull, if we desired, by other energetic staff members. Walking through the blue loops was like entering a new world, one where all are accepted, and many things can’t be explained…

As were started to explore the transformed space, we were captivated by all of the impeccable details. Our eyes didn’t quite know where to focus – it was absolutely spectacular~

Fully equipped with a wide range of entertainment, including a Kandi World, official merchandise, and Eye Love Shadez booths, a Glitter Station, and that’s just to name a few, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The upstairs area was a Rowllywood explosion! You truly have to experience one of the Elrow parties for yourself to begin to comprehend the true insanity…

Below you’ll find a few photos to give you a sense of the sheer epicness that went down on Friday, June 28, 2019…

If the ambiance wasn’t enough to satisfy your raving desires, special performances by Green Velvet, Prok & Fitch B2B Eskuche, Bastian Bux B2B Eddy M, Meduza, & Paskal Daze certainly did the trick. In our opinion, Meduza was the one who truly got the party started when he dropped his track ‘Piece Of Your Heart‘ (ft. Goodboys).

Although only half of Prok and Fitch were present, the B2B with Eskuche was packed with energy, and kept us dancing! Green Velvet followed suit to close off day 1 in true groovy fashion. We even scored a selfie with the legend himself!

After much-needed sleep, we were ready to conquer day 2! In but a mere few hours, the organizers managed to strip away the Rowllywood decor, and clean up the massive piles of confetti. We were thrilled to see that the food vendors were still on-site, offering fresh strawberries, cotton candy, tacos, popcorn, pizza, and more; not to mention exceptional service!

The Bal en Blanc white themed decor was also still present, with a Dim Mak twist! We rushed to the Mainstage to witness Don Diablo and Steve Aoki‘s performances.

The two talented musicians paid tribute to Avicii, and threw down a standard, yet very dynamic set! Meanwhile, Stef Agostino, Bok Nero, Max Styler, 13, and K?D, surprised partygoers with their performances.

A personal highlight for us was when we were watching Aoki perform from the crowd and noticed Max Styler right in front of us! It was fantastic to see him in the crowd, dancing with fans.

By day 3, we were pretty much walking zombies; however, we powered through the fatigued as we were eager to see what Armada had in store!

All weekend we were blown away by the local talent showcased at the Bud Light Bassment stage on the main level; expertly powered by Moog Audio. Stand out performances included DJ Ludo, Conkrete MTL, Sheridan Grout, DJ kärl k-otik, and that’s just to name a few!

Walking into the venue on Sunday, and leaving on Monday (Canada Day), was well worth it as we were lucky enough to witness Gareth Emery and Armin van Buuren (extended set) perform. As you can imagine, the two didn’t disappoint. The crowd was eating up every track they were dropping. The production offered an added element of pure magic.

We heard through the grapevine that Zack Martino and Standerwick Live sets were one to remember; unfortunately, we were busy dancing to local talent and didn’t catch their performances – it looked amazing!

Speaking of amazing, during Emery’s set, a couple of love birds got engaged! The pictures say it all…Congratulations!

We are overjoyed that we were able to attend this absolutely outstanding anniversary edition. Thanks to everyone who made this experience so special.

We look forward to seeing what the team has in store for 2020; if it was anything like this year, you know it’s going to be undeniably spectacular!
