While other festivals live in the year 2018, Ultra Taiwan is living light years ahead. In an announcement from Ultra and Pundi X, Ultra Taiwan will be the first major music festival to offer POS (point-of-sale) transactions solely through blockchain (cryptocurrency). Pundi X is a multi-cryptocurrency POS solutions provider, and are breaking into the festival scene in a big way.
This exclusive partnership will see more than 30,000 sales of individual cards known as the XPASS. The XPASS Card will have functionality at over 35 different festival shops therefore allowing attendees to use them to pay for food, goods and merchandise. It’s a pretty crazy notion considering that most of us were using $20 bills just a few years ago. This should also speed up lines as purchasing becomes more efficient.
In response to the Ultra Taiwan blockchain movement, Pundi X CEO and co-founder Zac Cheah lays out his full vision.
“While we have witnessed the rise of using blockchain technology for transaction in recent years, debate continues about their use for real-world payments. In a little more than two weeks, these doubts can be laid to rest when 30,000 party goers against the hectic backdrop of this year’s Ultra Taiwan festival pay for drinks, food and merchandise using Pundi X technology. We’re very proud to be bringing blockchain-based payments to a major festival for the first time in the world in a major moment for mass adoption.”
Ultra Taiwan kicks off in Taipei September 8 and 9. This will mark the first year of it being a “full” Ultra festival, moving away from “Road to Ultra” status. The stacked lineup includes fan-favorite Marshmello, Axwell/\Ingrosso (for one of their last performances, maybe?), Tchami X Malaa, and DJ Snake.
Clearly Ultra Taiwan wants to leave a lasting imprint in the world of dance music. Checkout the full Ultra Taiwan lineup below. Just remember, you can probably leave your debit card at home.
