Avicii Remembered At The Billboard Award Show

The world still mourns the loss of Swedish Dj & Producer Avicii, and it was evident at this years Billboard Music Awards. Prior to presenting the winner of the Billboard ‘Top Hot 100 Song’, The Chainsmokers & Halsey took a moment to speak on the passing of the superstar DJ. Accordingly the trio elaborated on how Avicii inspired many, and the impression he left on everyone in the EDM community. These words could not be any truer as the camera panned the audience, focusing at one point on Kygo.

Halsey states how “Everyone who worked with him would agree that he was such a joy”. She continues that “it makes this tragedy all the more painful”. In closing, she states that “It is a reminder to all of us to be there and to support and love all of our friends and family members who may be struggling with mental health issues.”

Avicii & Billboard

Avicii was no stranger to the Billboard awards, he had been nominated in the past for five Billboard Music Awards. This includes his 2015 win of the “Top Dance/Electronic Song ” award for his hit single “Wake Me Up.” It should be noted that Avicii was nominated for the “Top Dance/Electronic Album” at this years Billboard Music Awards for his EP “Avīci (01)“.

  • Ed Sheeran won the “Top Hot 100 Artist”, beating out Imagine Dragons, Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars, and Post Malone.
  • The winner of the “Top Dance/Electronic Artist” was The Chainsmokers, beating out Calvin Harris, Kygo, Marshmello, and ODESZA.
  • The Chainsmokers won their second award of the night for “Top Dance/Electronic Album” with “Memories… Do Not Open,” beating out the late Avicii’s AVĨCI (01), Calvin Harris’ Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, Kygo‘s Stargazing, and ODESZA’s, A Moment Apart.
  • The Chainsmokers won a third time for their track  ‘Something Just Like This’ along with Coldplay, beating out Cheat Codes ft. Demi Lovato, “No Promises”, Clean Bandit ft. Sean Paul & Ann-Marie, “Rockabye”, Kygo & Selena Gomez, “It Ain’t Me”, and Zedd & Alessia Cara, “Stay”.
