YouTube Hack on VEVO Takes Down Popular Music Videos

It’s another dark day on YouTube as Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” music video, the most watched of all time, has been taken down in the wake of a hack on the YouTube account of Vevo. (As of this writing the video has been restored and we cannot find any hacked videos remaining.)

Hackers gained access to the Vevo account and proceeded to deface various music videos, in some cases the images for the videos were altered and replaced with a masked gang holding guns and the description was changed. They also posted “Free Palestine” under some of the videos.

Vevo hosts music videos from the likes of Chris Brown, Shakira, DJ Snake, Selena Gomez, Drake, Taylor Swift and more. Some videos are still available, but with altered cover photos and thumbnails. The hackers claim to have used a script to mess with the descriptions of the videos.
