At one point or another, everyone has been out and about and heard a song for the first time that they just “have to know the name of.” Smartphone owners are all too familiar with the process of fumbling with your passcode, scrambling to open Shazam, and rushing to “Shazam” the song before it ends – and when you miss it, your whole day is ruined. Thanks to a new partnership between Snapchat and Shazam, however, those days are numbered. Snapchat’s latest release includes a new feature which allows users to launch Shazam’s music recognition technology from within the app.

To “Shazam” a song with Snapchat open, users can simply hold down anywhere on the camera screen to identify music playing in the background; once the song is identified, a pop-up window will appear that will allow users to retrieve lyrics, preview the audio, or play a Vevo clip. Snapchat’s new group chat feature, which allows users to “Snap and Chat” with up to 16 friends, also allows these “Shazam’d” songs to be shared with other Snapchatters.

Happy Snap-Shazaming, friends.
