Coachella Takes Over Twitter With 3.8M Tweets During First Weekend

The first weekend of Coachella has concluded and while I’m a firm believer of removing one’s self from the social media world at festivals, most others don’t share that sentiment. 3.8M tweets were posted during the three day festival’s first leg that included the hastag #coachella. As you can imagine, there were some obvious patterns that began to emerge.

Fans from all over the world come to the majestic environment that is the Palm Springs and Indio area with the premise that this festival occupying the southern California desert in mid-April is THE taste makeing event that sets the stage for the entire festival season. Two bands this year alone, LCD Soundsystem and Guns N’ Roses are making their returns to the music world with Coachella being one of their firsts stops respectively, while dance music stars Zedd, Major Lazer and Calvin Harris spotlight the ever growing movement of electronic music and it’s eventual place at the top of the musical food chain. While Coach is so much more than it’s headliners, from a social media aspect, there was a blanket of posts that trended favorably towards these artists.

Halsey, Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, Guns N’ Roses, A$AP Rocky and Kesha round out the top six most tweeted about artists. The crowd weren’t the only ones tweeting from the festival. Many of the stars on the other side of the stage were posting about their experiences and performances as well.

Even Bernie Sanders decided to drop by during Run the Jewels and Grimez’s sets.

Don’t forget about all of the emojis used over the weekend either. Number eight is cause for some concern since the only reason that emoji should be used is to describe the large amount of FOMO for the concert goers themselves not being able to see all of their favorite acts because as we all know, festival schedules are the worst for conflicting time slots.
