Porter Robinson – Worlds Remixed
In August of last year, Porter Robinson dropped his absolutely monumental ‘Worlds‘ album. The album was beautiful and emotionally powerful, inspiring producers all across the genre and signifying a distinct ideological break from mainstream EDM. The remixes have poured in since its release, with highlights such as Disco’s Over take on ‘Goodbye To A World,’ Ninth Parallel’s ‘Sea Of Voices,’ Naisu’s ‘Natural Light‘ and Chet Porter’s ‘Fellow Feeling.’ In addition to all these unofficial remixes, Porter had even enlisted 6 artists to remix the album when it had originally dropped back in August. These were included in the box set of the album, with highlights coming from Anamanaguchi’s take on ‘Sad Machine‘ and Giraffage’s version of ‘Lionhearted.’
A year after its release, Porter is reviving ‘Worlds’ in the form of a remix album. Each song on the album has been remixed by an incredibly talented group of artists. Porter demonstrates his refined musical taste in his artist selections, as he chose some of the best from all different genres. Artists such as Galimatias, San Holo, Chrome Sparks, Point Point and Deon Custom all deserve more recognition for their immense abilities, and Porter’s inclusion of them will certainly serve this purpose.
Porter’s artist selection shows his love for future bass, which is all over the album and best illustrated with San Holo’s ‘Natural Light’ and Deon Custom’s ‘Sad Machine.’ Other album highlights are Galimatias’ elegant take on ‘Sea Of Voices,’ Mat Zo’s eargasmic drum and bass version of ‘Flicker‘ and Chrome Sparks’ irresistibly smooth ‘Goodbye To A World.’ While Odesza’s remix of ‘Divinity‘ seems to borrow very little from the original, it still impressed as a classic Odesza track. As with everything Porter touches, this remix album stands out, with each artist being carefully handpicked to match with the styles of the originals. Listen to all the remixes below.
