Bassnectar & Craz – Thursty

Nor Cal Native, Bassnectar recently collabed with up-and-coming producer, Craz to release their low end, deep bass banger, ‘Thursty’. Bassnectar began working with the new artist following a stream of emails sent by Craz himself. He explained to Rolling Stone, “an up-and-coming producer named Craz sent over a bunch of tracks, and one of them caught my ear immediately. It had ‘that thing’ going on in it, made me feel absolutely bonkers.” Once the Basshead leader caught wind of that song, it was his mission to take the track and make it “sound cleaner, thicker, heavier and ‘as perfect as possible.'” He continued, “I could hear a lot of ways that his ideas could be more explosive and complete and asked if he wanted to team up on that song.”

Bassnectar then revealed to Rolling Stone some quirky inspiration for the track. He described that he has an interactive style of music listening, whether it be snapping or drumming with his fingers to the beat. He then explained how this act of physically feeling the music directly impacted and inspired ‘Thursty’. He confessed in more detail, “I wanted to use this silly kind of snapping sample to build up into the most insane explosion, coming out of some kind of chopped-and-screwed hip-hop vocal.”

From the simple concept of snapping and drumming came the duo’s first collaboration, which pushes the limits of the low end with massive amounts of deep bass and cleanly chopped vocals. “Thursty” is an exploration in hip hop vocals, expert drum beats, growling bass heavy melodies, and Bassnectar’s classic melodic prowess. Even in collaborating with Craz, “Thursty” screams authentic Bassnectar. And imagine how exciting it was for Craz, an up-and-comer in the game, not only catching the attention of a bass legend, but to get him so excited to the point of sparking a collaboration. This track is something that both artists should be thrilled to have on their musical resumes.
