After setting a faster pace with his two recent releases of “Don’t Know” and “Should Be Higher,” Amtrac is putting on the brakes with his new remix of Nicky Blitz’s “Alex.” An overall interesting song, there seems to be some disparity and tension between the tranquil, almost zen background and the courser vocals in the remix. Floating in a relaxed lull at the beginning, listeners are welcomed by a simple and naturalistic track that builds into a more ‘electro’ feel throughout the song as instrumental elements are added. There are definitely points in the song where I wish the vocals were a bit more subdued and where that brilliant Amtrac groove was brought more to the surface – but I guess peering through the vocals forces you to really hear that great melody.
