Poignant release titles like “Unchain Your Soul” are one of the multitude of reasons that I freaking love electronic music. So deep. Much feel. Very evolve. The collaboration between Steve Brian and York lifts you to indescribable places, and in the depths of winter it is refreshing to have those tracks that at least mentally transport you to those rolling blue waters and white sand beaches of all of our daydreams. Steve Brian’s imagining of the track is bursting with those summer vibes, complete with climbing, energetic synths and beachy Roger Shah-inspired musicality coupled with a driving almost break-beat drum line that Steve Brian is becoming synonymous with.
York’s mix takes a similar production path with a few individuated stylistic tweaks of his own. York eases off on the breaks and instead adopts an airier approach complete with an infusion of orchestral and piano elements to bring even more beachy-chillness into the fray. Beautifully incorporating the breathy vocals with the laid back musical vibe, this release is sure to help us power through these remaining winter months in looking forward to those long days of sunlight ahead.
