Nostalgia – Louise Rademakers

Everyone knows that iconic movie scene when the hero looks back on the past and reminisces about the way things used to be. Or how everything used to seem so perfect but this moment somehow appears empty. Louise Rademakers encapsulates all the feelings of wanting to return to a better time in her new track ‘Nostalgia.’ With elegant melodies and hauntingly beautiful vocals, Rademakers’ first release on Armin Van Buuren‘s Armada label chills the listener to the bone in the best of ways.

Rademakers brings the airy female voice in on the track almost immediately. Because of this, the listener cannot avoid the narrative of a painful lost love. A soft, minimal piano melody backs up the vocals initially. This intro makes the track seem almost peaceful, like the thoughts of a better time. But through the words and the progression of the song Rademakers intentionally conveys the idea that those warm and cozy feelings aren’t here anymore.

This track could not have a more appropriate name. ‘Nostalgia’ feels like the perfect theme song to go with a favorite childhood memory. It is a sad song about a lost love. About wanting to “pick up where we left it.” But we all have to move on at some point. And releasing a new song on one of the biggest record labels in electronic music seems like a great way for Louise Rademakers to work through her nostalgia.
