Apple has told at least one supplier the news which led to these rumors. Analysis and supply chain partners have flagged slow sales for the Vision Pro 1. The company is currently working on releasing a more affordable vision product in 2025. Apple was originally going to make two models similar to its iPhone line with a “Pro” model and a “standard” model.

The objective is to sell the cheaper model for around the same price as a high-end iPhone, which retails for up to $1,600. Apple has produced no more than 500,000 Vision Pro units this year, with no plans to make significantly more than this through August.

For comparison, Apple’s competition Meta announced the Quest 3 at a price point of $499. The Quest has been around for years and people love it. Their highest-performing Quest model runs a $1,499 price tag. Apple has long established itself as a designer brand, look at the iPhone’s cost for instance. People flock to the newest version of those and you can expect the same here.

Unlike Meta’s headsets, the Apple Vision Pro uses augmented reality rather than virtual reality. The difference is that augmented reality is less immersive, allowing users to take advantage of the technology without being completely separated from their surroundings. Imagine you sitting in your living room being able to project Netflix or read some emails. A major plus, it will be able to track your hands, rather than you needing separate devices to hold.

Similar to the Meta Quest Pro, Apple is advertising this device to be used in part for the workplace. It may replace your laptop for instance. Its visionOS runs on the same framework as iOS and iPadOS, meaning it will be compatible with many existing apps. But already, Apple says that the headset will work with Microsoft Office apps, as well as video conferencing services like WebEX and Zoom.

Apple has a devoted fanbase that will need to try these out. Give it time and they may release a cheaper version for all to enjoy. For now, AR and VR are taking a step into our everyday life.

This launch marks the beginning of a new era for Apple, as it moves beyond the iPhone and into a world where people interact via headsets instead of touchscreens. In addition to the headset, Gurman expects Apple to release its xOS operating system, accompanying services, and a software development kit and platform to enable the creation of new types of apps. We can imagine people will begin communicating with these things.

An invitation sent out by Apple last week for the Annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) provides some clues, Gurman noted. The graphic is an outline of Apple’s spaceship campus, suggesting that the conference will be held at the company’s headquarters. The second graphic, an outline of a rainbow structure on Apple’s campus, resembles the curved shape of the Apple headset facing upward.

Gurman believes that Apple is aware of the high expectations for the headset and is unlikely to stoke anticipation if it cannot meet those expectations. He also noted that Susan Prescott, head of developer relations, has called the conference Apple’s “biggest and most exciting yet,” indicating the company’s enthusiasm for the event. Rumor has it it might cost around $3,000.

The post features some signature visuals, but an air of mystery and confusion. It ultimately offers very little information besides the title of the project, ‘Codename: #Oberhasli,’ and is simply captioned “a breed of goat.”

At first impression, it might seem like the title offers some clarity, but it actually raises more questions. His caption appears to offer a brief explanation of the project’s title, since an Oberhasli is actually a type of goat. This is both strange and exciting news, but it looks like we’ll have to wait for more of an explanation.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 outbreak cancelled many live events. The good news? Virtual events are thriving. Livestreams, virtual raves, and virtual reality projects are the new norm as artists weather out the pandemic.

As we wait it for festivals and events to come back, many artists are turning to virtual spaces. It will never replicate the many amazing components of a live event and of live music, but artists have gotten creative. It’s been a way to stay connected to the community, share music, and offer a second-best alternative.

And now, we can expect Deadmau5 to add his own personal touch to the virtual event scene.

It all started back in 2016 when Ossic launched a campaign to raise funds for their new high-end headphones, Ossic X, which were marketed as a revolutionary concept perfect for Virtual Reality and 3D audio. With more than 22,000 pre-orders, the company was expected to enter mass production in spring 2018. When the time came they released a statement on their website informing that they were unable to keep their project alive, stating financial reasons as the main reason for deciding to shut the business down:

“To fail at the 5 yard-line is a tragedy. We are extremely sorry that we cannot deliver your product and want you to know that the team has done everything possible including investing our own savings and working without salary to exhaust all possibilities.”

In spite of the letter of apology, backers who supported the idea are extremely upset about the outcome, to the point that they are considering filing a class-action lawsuit against the company. So, next time you decide to contribute to an innovative idea, be aware that there’s always a risk.
