Bonnaroo co-founder Rick Farman told Billboard in 2015:

“We built this business on partnerships, and having a company like Live Nation come to the table and want to be part of that partnership in the way that they are here, and making the commitment to taking Bonnaroo to the next level, is an extremely gratifying, humbling validation of the hard work.”

More Bad News For Superfly

Equally important, this isn’t the first time Superfly has been in the news recently. While Superfly was set to produce this year’s Woodstock 50, it seemed there were disagreements regarding the much-anticipated event. Ultimately, pulling out as a production partner. A spokesperson for the festival shared:

“The producers of the Woodstock 50th anniversary festival hired Superfly to leverage our expertise as veteran event producers to manage festival operations, a role that aligned with our mission of creating shared experiences that build community. Following the decision of one of our clients, Dentsu, to cancel the event, we will no longer be participating in ongoing related activities.”

A Bright Future for Bonnaroo

After all, with Live Nation Buying out Superfly’s stake, good things seem to be in the future for the festival. As a result, it is a great opportunity to continue to expand. Certainly, with over 80,000 daily attendees, this multi-stage festival will only continue to grow. They clearly have no issue drawing the top artists to perform, while this year included many powerhouse acts. The headliners included Phish, Post Malone & Childish Gambino. Other major acts included Brockhampton, Solange, Cardi B, Odesza, Kacey Musgraves and The Lumineers. It is very exciting to see what the future has in store.

The Denver city council has officially approved the concept of a major 3-day Music Festival to take place at Overland Park Golf Course after voting 10-3 in favor of it. The five-year deal between Denver and promoters, Superfly Productions, will begin in 2018 allowing the festival to take place in the second or third weekend of September each year.

Superfly are not new to the festival scene as they are the promoters behind San Francisco’s Outside Lands and Tennessee’s Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The council members voted in favor due to Superfly addressing community concerns in their festival plans as well speaking about a significant financial boon.

The festival is expected to bring in around 30,000 to 40,000 per day for the first year with a cap set at 80,000 as the festival grows. Superfly will need control of the grounds for 5 weeks for build-up and tear-down and will pay a $200,000 lease in exchange for that time.

In addition, the city will receive a 10% seat tax, $2 per ticket for a golf fund and $1 per ticket for a community fund. One attendance grows to 70,000 per day, the city anticipates the profit from hosting the festival will be around $2 million.

Superfly is required to restore the turf and all other aspects of the gold course once the festival ends. Local residents were concerned with the environmental impact and overall disruption to their homes, but in the end, the council voted in favor of the Superfly Festival and it will take place September 2018 at Overland Park Golf Course in Denver, Colorado.

Denver’s Overland Park Golf Course is being evaluated for one of the potential locations for the festival — having the ability to hold many thousands of festival goers. The planning for this festival has been underway since as early as 2010 according to Chuck Morris, the CEO of AEG Live Rocky Mountains.

Festival attendees can expect a huge spectrum of musical artists and different stages. The festival is tentatively planned to happen during one weekend in 2018, with approximately 30,000 to 60,000 fans!

Westword, a Denver publication, stated of the festival that “Morris and his colleagues see potential — not just in run-of-the-mill stadium concerts, but in creating a festival experience with multiple stages and a bevy of musical acts, akin to Coachella, if slightly smaller, at least in the beginning.”

This will certainly be exciting to see the plans for the festival develop — this is an event you won’t want to miss!

As we got to know the Live Nation team better, especially working on Bonnaroo, it became clear that our teams could complement one another very well. It seemed like a great fit for AC, for where we are as a company now and how we expect to grow in the future.

Besides Bonnaroo, AC Entertainment includes Forecastle and Big Ears in Kentucky as well as Sloss Music and Arts in Birmingham, Alabama. AC’s management will stay in place and the staff is also slated to remain as is.

We all know Florida has a big dance music scene, and an even bigger festival scene. This comes naturally, due to the year round good weather and sunshine. While Florida is already home to Ultra, EDC Orlando, and Sunset Music Festival, it doesn’t yet have a high profile multi-genre festival. All of that is about to change as Superfly, the creators of festivals like Bonnaroo and Outside Lands, have set their sites on Florida’s center for a new festival.

In a small country town known as Okeechobee, Superfly is creating the Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival on 848 acres of property formerly known as Sundance Trails. Property owner Clifford Rosen hopes that Okeechobee will gain its spot on the map much like Coachella in California. The festival will feature more than 80 artists, bands, and DJs on 5 stages over 3 days during March 4-7, 2016. Additionally, the festival will feature camping, dusk-til-dawn electronic music stages, and once-in-a-lifetime collaborations much like Bonnnaroo’s SuperJam. Expect headliner announcements in mid-October spanning the genres of classic rock, indie, alternative, and folk and will be similar to Coachella or Bonnaroo. Check out the teaser video below and you better start learning how to spell Okeechobee now, because you’ll be hearing about it a lot more in the future.
