Avicii – SOS (Lucas & Steve Remix)

We have ourselves another ‘SOS’ remix and this one is going to get your feet moving! Lucas & Steve have delivered us a beauty of a track. It is definitely more fitting for a festival than the original but still has the same impact emotionally.

The track starts similarly to the original but has its pace increased. As Aloe Blacc delivers his legendary vocals we have some nice chords ring through the background. Where the original track would have had its drop this remix just begins to kick off. The beat begins to pick up and we are finally brought into the festival anthem.

Like many other DJs, Avicii was one of their biggest inspirations. The Dutch Duo had this to say about the remix:

“This makes him feel like a friend to us, even though we met only a couple of times. He and his music will always remain legendary. Here is our remix on his masterpiece SOS.”

The home stretch is finally in sight. We are just roughly 12 hours away from the release of Avicii‘s posthumous album TIM. To hold us over, Tuesday night Aloe Blacc kept building the anticipation for TIM as he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform ‘SOS‘ for the very first time.

For some lucky fans throughout the world, they were able to pre-listen and experience the masterpiece of TIM via the cube this past weekend. Most fans, myself included, will have to endure the next 12 hours as we patiently wait for what will become one of the most memorable albums in electronic music history.

However, Aloe Blacc gave us an incredibly heartfelt live rendition as we’ve never heard before including a full band, brass section and all. Boy did it leave goosebumps!

So far we’ve had the pleasure of hearing two songs off the album TIM, ‘SOS‘, and ‘Tough Love‘. Both are very different from each other, yet still, embody Avicii music even though he was unable to finish these masterpieces himself.

Check out Aloe Blacc’s touching tribute performance of ‘SOS’ below. Furthermore, we can’t believe TIM is almost here for all of us to enjoy. However, it does leave us with the burning question, is this the final time we will ever hear new music from Avicii?

Tomorrowland will be celebrating 15 years with 2 weekends spanning from July 19-21 and July 26-28. There are a plethora of stages ready for your enjoyment. This year features stages by Eric Prydz (holosphere), Monstercat, Anjunabeats, Diynamic, Get Lost, STMPD, Afterlife, and many more.

This comes after Tomorrowland’s One World Radio top 1000 countdown. It ended with Laidback Luke mixing the top 100 tracks live, and ‘One‘ by Swedish House Mafia being revealed as the top track. Finally, he played ‘SOS‘ by Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc in tribute to the artist’s legacy.

Blacc’s stunning vocals alongside the Swedish producer’s uplifting and classic melodies are a match made in heaven. When listening to their collaborations, it comes as no surprise that the two were not only musical colleagues but also dear friends. Their special bound can be heard flowing through the tracks.

Recently, the Panamanian-American singer chimed in, less than a week after the new track dropped, to share that there may be even more impeccable tunes released on the horizon.

While “S.O.S” is a good track, it might not reach those sky-high levels of “Wake Me Up” so news like this is certainly very welcome. In our opinion, the late DJ’s forthcoming album TIM would be a wonderful platform to showcase these undeniable historic pieces.

Avicii – S.O.S. (feat. Aloe Blacc)

Tim ‘Avicii’ Bergling tragically took his own life on April 20, 2018 at the age of 28. Since then, he’s had an album’s worth of nearly finished music which could have stayed in the dark. His family members decided to release those songs in an album titled ‘TIM‘. However, we are currently graced with the single ‘S.O.S.‘ featuring Aloe Blacc.  Aloe is a previous collaborator of Tim’s, hosting his vocals on ‘Wake Me Up‘ in 2013.

‘S.O.S.’ is a blatantly personal track, kicking off the lyrics with “Can you hear me S.O.S., help me put my mind to rest.” His friends and collaborators mentioned how the music shaped its meaning to them after his passing. Aloe’s vocals on the first single sit on a bed of quiet piano chords accompanying hushed plucks. The positive sounding music can bring an interesting contrast to the lyrical content of the track. It draws tropical house elements, and goes into an easy-on-the-ear feeling.

“The songwriters that Tim was collaborating with on this album have continued the process to get as close to his vision as possible.”

Avicii’s family conveyed that proceeds from the album will be donated to the non-profit Tim Bergling Foundation. The foundation is currently setting its focus on mental health and suicide prevention.

ilan Bluestone & Grum – SOS

Any time two artists under Above & Beyond‘s wings collaborate with each other, simple bliss ensues. In the most recent example, emerging artists from both Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep came together for a huge track that exemplifies the best of both labels. ilan Bluestone and Grum put their heads together to create “SOS“, an entrancing song that combines the best characteristics of both producers. Starting out slow and steady, the song quickly develops into an enticing bass line that carries a strong euphoric melody through to the end.

While it is common for Anjuna artists under the same label to work with one another, this beautiful single shows that these producers can cross genre lines to create stellar pieces of art. Both artists will make appearances at the grand celebration of ABGT’s 200th episode, taking place this Friday, September 24th at the Amsterdam Zigga Dome. While the event is completely sold out, it will be available to stream live on Above & Beyond’s YouTube page.
