The energy rises with layered percussion that builds toward a classic fake-out moment. The tension snaps into a fast-paced drop filled with crisp movement and detailed sound design. The second half of the drop leans into sustained bass hits that shake the mix.

The rework then shifts into war-like horns that create a dramatic pause. A melodic soundscape builds above them and widens the world of the song. The momentum returns as the elements rise together once again. Another fake out arrives to surprise listeners and flips the energy into a techno-heavy drop that still carries RL Grime’s signature dubstep feel. Deadcrow is a rising artist in the dance scene who has caught the attention of major producers like RL Grime, Zeds Dead, and more. His work blends cyberpunk themes with high energy and heavy sound design. His music carries influence from JDM culture, classic racing games, and the Blade Runner films. He tours worldwide and is now one of the first wave artists to tour the United States. His releases appear on major labels like Sable Valley, Deadbeats, Dim Mak, and others. His style is inspiring big and new artists alike and continues to push dance music forward.

The Original Artist: Human Resource

Human Resource is a Dutch electronic group from the Ridderkerk area. The early lineup included mixer Robert Mahu, keyboardist Johan van Beek, Jasper Drexhage, Guido Pernet, and rapper Larenzo Nash. The group earned worldwide attention in 1991 with their breakout single ‘Dominator’, the rave classic known for one of the earliest uses of the Hoover synth and a famous remix by Joey Beltram. After several lineup changes through the mid-90s, the group disbanded near the end of the decade. Guido Pernet later revived Human Resource with a new lineup in the 2000s, leading to renewed touring and the launch of the Dominator Festival in 2005, which remains one of the biggest events in hardcore and gabber music.

The original ‘Drop It’ was released in 1999 by the Belgian dance music project Scoop, written by Daniel Maze and Jan Vervloet. It’s been a staple ever since, upbeat, innocently europop electro and packed with 90s fun –  rattle-tat drum builds, ludicrously catchy staccato tootling synth themes, the female ‘yeah-ay-ay-eh-eh-eah’ warcry, and a melodic synth chord break. Oh, and Otis Redding’s much-sampled 1968 Monterey promise.

‘Drop It’ (Charlotte de Witte Rework) is a slightly faster, more demanding beast, with a pounding techno beat, the iconic synth riffs given extra acidic edge and resonance, while fluttering, juddering themes now fill the air like batwings. The original instantly recognizable 90s themes are still here, with its huge breakdown and banging drop, and some subtle echoes of Otis R. A hefty slice of pure dancefloor uplift.

“Music is more than art, and it’s the main code of the universe” is one of the most powerful sentences by one of the most prodigious producers and composers in the world, Vangelis, who captured the mystic essence of the universe with Albedo 0:39, one of the best Electronic music albums in History. We can listen to the original version of ‘Pulstar’ from this great work. This is a loop with a 20-second melody sounding over and over again for more than 5 minutes, but it managed to be a masterpiece in all its splendor.

This particular song along with others from the same album captivated children and adults both in the now classic program “Cosmos” hosted by Carl Sagan and in other scientific, news, and even sports programs. One of those people amazed by the considered “sound of the universe” was one now known as one of the greatest DJs and producers in history: Armin van Buuren.

Armin van Buuren – ‘Pulstar’

If we delve into the Dutchman’s history, we will discover that he is a great fan of the late Greek composer, indeed we can listen to the influence of Vangelis on tracks such as ‘Communication’, ‘Sail’, and all the Gaia Stuff, to be more specific: the Moons of Jupiter album, released on 2019. This re-work perfectly preserves the original essence of ‘Pulstar’ but, with the addition of this producer’s characteristic Trance sound, a very euphoric and thunderous one that strengthens the meaning of the original song, giving the power of a pulsar we can capture with our astronomical study devices in the most remote places of the universe.

Pulsating with energy, euphoria, and uplifting melodies, ‘Pulstar‘ will possibly become a Dutch anthem, uniting the best of New Age Ambient music and Trance. The track encapsulates the creative spark and euphoria in the moment of listening to the original version and a classic theme of Electronic music, offering a glimpse into the unique chemistry of these iconic artists.

In this day and age, Dance music has more traffic than ever, and that may make it difficult for a fairly new artist — or a veteran under a new name — to really take off. Well, not long ago, we stumbled upon a hotly-requested ID, a remake of a classic track. And now that it’s finally come out, we’re glad to introduce you to YERO.

A born DJ and natural disruptor, YERO is the new artist project of Greek producer Johnny Gerontakis. He’s been igniting parties in his home country for years, and now under this moniker promises to amaze crowds worldwide. And he’s already started. Earlier this year, he made his debut at Ibiza’s iconic sunset spot Café Mambo, and turned heads with his addition to this year’s Tomorrowland lineup, which, last time we checked, it’s this very weekend.

YERO’s debut single — and the one we discovered him with — is ‘Wonderful Life (Kryder’s Guilty Pleasure Mix)‘, a beautiful rendition of the 1980s original by UK band Black. His version, which features the vocals of Christian Burns, elevates the experience a couple notches by turning the positive lyrics into an Afro House masterpiece, all with the help of a Dance icon, Kryder.

And so we managed to lock in an interview with the man behind the ID, just days before his debut slot at Tomorrowland Belgium. Here’s our conversation. Read on.

Who is YERO? How would you describe your latest artist moniker?

YERO is my newly launched DJ and producer artist project for 2024 with a clear vision to get people back on the dancefloor. 

How did YERO begin, how was it born? We’d love to know about that moment when the idea came to your head.

The idea was to create a very personal project where I could combine the sounds and different styles of house music that I love all and that I’ve seen connect with crowds over the years as a DJ.  

I’ve DJ’d all my life so it’s a natural need for me to share the music and the vibe that I have in my head with other people, and I just felt the time for this to launch was now.

So, what takes us to you is your debut track, ‘Wonderful Life’, alongside Kryder and Christian Burns. So we’d like to ask, why ‘Wonderful Life’? Why rework this particular track, one that is practically a part of general music culture?

The positive message in the song’s lyrics fully matches my philosophy for music and life in general so I thought it was the perfect fit for my first release. 

The fun spirit and message of gratitude in the song is something we all need to hear in the spirit of summer and festival season. 

We’re absolutely aching to know, how did it feel working with Kryder? 

Kryder and I have a really special relationship, we’ve known each other for many years now. Working with him is not new to me but it is always a pleasure! I think he is a top player in the worldwide music industry, and I really enjoy learning from him.

So, this track blew up and came to be one of the year’s most requested IDs. What are your thoughts on that, and why do you think such was the case?

I was very happy to see the track getting support on the dancefloor. People instantly connected to the feelings and emotions we had in mind when creating the track and the uplifting production, so how could we not share it as an official release?

You’re debuting as YERO at Tomorrowland this week. First off, congratulations! And secondly, what can attendees expect from your set? Which genres do you wish to onboard to your timeslot?

Thank you! I’m so excited for Tomorrowland. It’s the world’s biggest dance party and an honour to be a part of it. I can’t wait!

As for my set, festival-goers can expect tech and tribal rhythms, uplifting melodies, sexy vocals with groovy drops – that’s my sound all over!

What can fans expect from YERO during this second half of the year and diving a bit into early 2025?

My main focus is to release at least one track per month and also throw some special DJ shows. I recently debuted at Ibiza’s famous Café Mambo, which was another bucket list venue, so I’m excited to see what’s next.

Charlotte De Witte chose this classic to rework as it is a cultural reset on its own. The original ‘Universal Nation’ has a hard beat that lights up the dancefloor and a groove that was fitting of the raves in the 90s. The Belgian producer spins it into a hypnotic soundscape. The groove turns more cinematic and the main melody gets deeper and darker.

Inferno

Sampling the late 90s original track by DJ Souvlaki, who appears on this track under his new Scorccio alias, ‘Inferno’ packs a punch with a blend of nostalgic riffs, infectious hooks, and grooving basslines.

Get lost in the rhythm, it’s an amazing song from the very beginning, when the sustained lead kicks in with all the percussive elements. The garage beat in the break is truly a sweet sweet condiment from a track that already sends you back in time. After one of the most intense buildups I’ve heard in a while, the drop is nothing but amusing: disco-esque, uplifting, fast, dynamic, it truly has it all. This one is sure to be one of those tracks that makes jaws drop when played live.
