The “party houses” have popped up in southwest Las Vegas. Police have received an increasing number of such complaints in the last weeks, KTNV reported on Monday. One neighbor, Hadas Grant, told the television station that “there’s fire-based entertainment, including flamethrowers, and rocket launchers that are being set off within obviously 10-to-15 feet of 50-foot pine trees and homes.” Nannette Grant said that “the girls that we see walking in and out, a lot of them are dressed in a G string and a top.”

People have arrived at the neighborhood near Sunset Road and Jones Boulevard in buses, ride shares and cars, for the past six months. “It’s a party going madhouse out here,” Tony Grant said.

“On the day the citation was placed on the door, that Tuesday night was one of the largest gatherings or events that they’ve ever had, they’re laughing in the face of code enforcement,” he added.

Videos posted on social media showed dozens of people, perhaps even hundreds, at a house with loud music, lasers and scantily dressed women. The house was described on the Internet as a day and nightclub venue for parties.

Parties Under Investigation

Since April, Las Vegas police have logged more than six “disturbing the peace” reports on the 5800 block of Patrick Lane. The home has been issued fines adding up to $350, Clark County records show. An investigation is underway on the home owner, who is based in California, according to KTNV.

Party houses have been linked to shootings and worse. At least three homicides and 15 shootings have happened at short-term rentals in the past few months, police said. 

Las Vegas has been the site of other disturbing party life during the pandemic. On July 4, an illegal rave emerged in the middle of the dessert, that broke local social distancing rules.

The first non-socially distanced, unlicensed rave transpired in a private woodland area in Merseyside on June 1. Videos shared on social media revealed a mass gathering of people, some holding red cups, laughing and enjoying dance music and lasers. Merseyside Police officers arrived at the scene as a crowd of young people approached the party and stopped about 200 of them from entering, the Liverpool Echo reported.

When the massive ended around 5:30 a.m., officers saw four men packing up DJ equipment, a police spokesman told the media outlet. The officers arrested them on suspicion of public nuisance and other offenses and seized the DJ equipment and lasers. In addition, the officers issued 12 drug offenses, 15 “Covid-19 tickets,” and more than a dozen dispersal notices. 

The rave goers “put themselves and others in the community at significant risk,” Chief Superintendent Ngaire Waine told the Echo. 

“Not only have they risked catching and spreading the coronavirus, but due to the numbers of people consuming of drugs and alcohol in dark woods, somebody could have quite easily got seriously hurt or worse,” Waine said. “Indeed it was reported one male sustained a broken leg, one female a broken ankle and another female suffered burns to her legs.”

Police also investigated two assaults that allegedly took place at or near the rave. On top of that, the revelers left behind a lot of trash. 

“I want to appeal directly to everyone who attended this rave, to pause and think about their actions,” Waine said. 

Two More Illegal Raves

However, Waine’s appeal did not reach ravers in other parts of the U.K. On Saturday night, about 6,000 people flocked to two separate illegal raves in Greater Manchester, The Guardian reported. Ravers at one of them threw objects at police who tried to shut down the party. 

At a rave in Carrington, Trafford, with 2,000 people, three men were stabbed including an 18-year-old who sustained life-threatening injuries. Furthermore, police investigated an alleged rape with an 18-year-old female victim. Officers also arrested a 25-year-old man suspected of possessing a weapon. 

The other “quarantine rave” that night, at Daisy Nook Park in Failsworth, Oldham, drew about 4,000 people. A 20-year-old man died from what appeared to be a drug overdose, according to police.

“These raves were illegal and I condemn them taking place,” Greater Manchester Police assistant chief constable Chris Sykes told The Guardian. “They were clearly a breach of coronavirus legislation and guidelines, and have had tragic consequences.”  

Across the world, mass gatherings breaching social distancing rules have emerged as frustrations over lockdowns and event cancelations come to a head. Not all have had such devastating endings, though. In late May, Berlin club organizers held a peaceful floating techno party protest that got out of hand. The organizers who had planned for 100 attendees halted the demonstration at police officers’ orders after it grew to more than 1,000 attendees. 

Many dance fans desperately want to return to the rave scene but should be mindful, as the illegal tragic ones may only delay the return of the legal ones.

The latest Heldeep Records release ‘LazersX999‘ is a new collaboration from Dutch duo Chocolate Puma and label boss HI-LO. The trio of producers is reuniting for the first time since coming together on ‘Steam Train‘ back in 2016. Once again they’ve delivered a fun track for all you house heads to bounce to this summer.

HI-LO aka Oliver Heldens has been a busy man at the helm of his record label founded back in 2015. With dozens of releases from the likes of Firebeatz and Moguai he isn’t in desperate need of fresh material. However, he is staying busy in the studio, keeping his word from his interview with UKF a few years back. Thus he’s finally getting around to dropping ‘LazersX999.’

I’m working really hard on some new music. Now with a second DJ persona I’ll have to haha. There is new stuff coming up for sure. For both Oliver Heldens and HI-LO. But what’s coming is still a secret. I’m getting really good in keeping secrets.

Since we last checked in with Chocolate Puma they’ve been busy rocking stages on multiple dates during Miami Music Week. This summer, they’re already locking in multiple dates across Europe. Additionally, they have a huge date in the fall for their ‘A Journey Through House‘ event taking place October 19, in Amsterdam.

Once again, the trio has put together a bouncy house track aptly named ‘LazersX999.’ The booming bass line is smothered in what sounds like thousands of lasers plucked from an Atari video game circa 1975. Turn this track on and instantly see everyone on the dance floor transported to a laser-tag warehouse. Laserface Miami Warm Up Mix

Lasers are primed and ready for Gareth Emery’s Miami show to spearhead his new Laserface tour. Taking placing on Friday 29th at the Mana Wynwood, this is a definite stop for anyone’s MMW schedule.

Since the first Laserface show shocked the world in 2017, fans have been craving for Gareth to bring it back. Anyone who has seen the show in person can go off about how mind-blowing the production is. This is especially so when hundreds of lasers are synced perfectly to your favorite trance tracks. The word on the street is that this time it will be even better. Renowned laser designer, Anthony Garcia, is at the helm of it all, constantly upgrading and tweaking the production. Utilizing the latest innovative technology, the show will be like none other.

In its fourth year at the venue, the 2018 edition of Dreamstate San Francisco had something epic for all trance fans. The driving acoustics and ample dancing room had purists and shufflers smiling ear-to-ear. They finally added a second stage in the famed Larkin Hall. However, some of the best moments happened when not everyone could be there to witness them.

Here are the top-5 reasons you should feel a little sad you missed out on Dreamstate San Francisco:

 5  The view of the laser show from the top balcony.

Hit me with those laser beams! The view from the top porch was nothing short of breath-taking. You had all the acoustics of the GA Floor, but had a view of the masses from above. When the laser beams hit the foggy air surrounding all the Dreamers, it was a truly spectacular site to behold. As an added bonus, you had the option to sit or stand – for some people, this can be a very welcomed option!

 4  Big sets from not quite (yet) household names.

While the allure of the big guns such as Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz, John O’Callaghan, Vini Vici, and others caught everyone’s eye, some of the diamonds in the rough came through in a huge way. High riser Davey Asprey‘s set in the Larkin side stage was powerful, intimate, and fit for the main stage. Giuseppe Ottaviani absolutely floored the audience with his huge uplifting sound mixed in with some crafty remixes. Blastoyz took the side room by storm.  3  Markus Schulz dropping two new vocal IDs specifically for the Dreamstate crowd.

As the Day 2 closer, you knew Markus Schulz was going to bring it. He played to a full house and dropped some absolutely beautiful tracks, mixing old with new. However, we now know he has two vocal ID tracks out there, and they are sublime. He led in to each of them saying “This is a track I made specifically for you, Dreamstate – I hope you like it!”

 2  All eyes on Psy’s rise in the side room.

Day 1 in the Larkin Hall side stage was all about PsyTrance. The loaded lineup included Ganesh, Khromata, Captain Hook, Coming Soon!!!, Blastoyz and Avalon. The extremely intimate room was hot and muggy, giving it an underground club feel. The music, however, made it feel more like you were raving with the devil, and for all the right reasons. Hour after hour of bumping BPMs, track after track of nonstop energy. This room was going off the whole night.

 1  The nostalgia of trance classics – with a twist.

To a certain degree, all of us yearn for simpler times, you know – the way things were. Many of the main stage acts gave us a glimpse back into the golden days of early influential trance music, and it was oh so glorious. Alpha 9 mashing up A&B’s ‘Thing Called Love‘ with his own track with Mat Zo ‘Rebound.’ ATB‘s dubstep rendition of the famous mashup ‘DJ Ease My Apollo Road.’ The capper, though, might very well have been Paul van Dyk dropping his iconic ‘For An Angel‘ in the heart of Day 2. While the music sometimes is all about what’s coming next, sometimes it’s nice to take a walk down memory lane and reflect on what has gotten us here. It truly gave everyone in attendance a serious dose of the feels.

Overall, Dreamstate San Francisco was truly incredible. It offered something for everyone in a world class venue between small moments and massive ones. If you have never made your way to Bill Graham for a show, put it on the bucket list.

As I entered through the media gates high above the bleachers I was able to catch a glorious panoramic view of the entire festival. This would be my escape for the next three days. 

Every detail at EDC Las Vegas was carefully considered and flawlessly executed into the larger storyline. From the nightly firework shows, to the operational stages and moving art cars, to the sensational performers prancing about. There wasn’t an element that didn’t serve a purpose. Creative innovation lurked at every corner—even at the attendee level. Beautiful bodies encrusted in jewels and glitter donned elaborate rave costumes and held up custom-built totems with their own clever memes and declarative messages.

From sunset to sunrise, a brave new world opened up full of wonder and dazzling showmanship. Each night there were countless sights to see, sounds to hear, and connections to be made. EDC awakened our innermost child-like curiosity and allowed us to explore it for three days under the Electric Sky.

EDC Las Vegas – Production

Insomniac is known for pulling out all the stops for their show-stopping events and the 22nd annual Electric Daisy Carnival was no different. Walking across the grounds and exploring each stage was like entering a world that harbored its own distinctive energy and sound. Insomniac did a wonderful job of creating enough spacial proximity between stages where once you entered the zone of one stage, it didn’t clash with the sound of another.

The kineticFIELD main stage was an extraordinary fixture that towered higher than all the other stages and held up on its own beyond its coinciding musical acts. The two-minute intermission shows captured an awe-inspiring exhibition of lights, lasers, pyrotechnics, and water elements. cosmicMEADOW boasted the most eclectic of artists and made for a larger audience with its additional bleacher seating. The art car stages paraded across the grounds and provided an escape from the packed crowds of the conventional stages.

EDC Las Vegas’s VIP experience provided a one-of-a-kind experience for guests with brag-worthy amenities like a hookah bar and oxygen bar, a pool and ball pit, plentiful photo ops, complimentary breakfast and dedicated viewing and dancing areas. The Insomniac VIP experience was hands-down one of the greatest aspects of EDC, and is definitely a worthy option to consider next time around if you’ve got the extra cash.

Performances

On day one, curiosity coupled with our unfamiliarity with the venue had my friend and I lost for most of the event. We ran like a madmen from stage to stage hoping to catch a bit of everyone as we could. The lineup offered such an enticing array of acts that it was hard to choose between artists. And just as in the manner of a Las Vegas buffet I enjoyed a little bit of everything. My inability to find the Parliament Art Car at sunrise meant I missed Kaskade’s Strobelite Seduction set, but it wasn’t all bad because I was able to catch Getter for the first time as the sun peeked over the horizon at cosmicMEADOW.

Day two was hands down the best day of the entire weekend, and the most crowded. You could physically feel the increase of bodies as you stood shoulder to shoulder at nearly every set. Ookay’s live set on Saturday was one of the most inspiring sets of the weekend. His one-man-show highlighted his multifaceted artistic capabilities and featured live elements like his own vocals, drums, a synth keytar, and even a surprise appearance by famed Saxophone player Kenny G for the closing number “Thief.” Kygo‘s tropical house set at the kineticFIELD ranked high on my list of favorites for the weekend. His feel-good melodies gave us clean break from the heavy “womp womp” sound that flooded the rest of the event. Tiësto dropped some much needed hardstyle bangers and included a tearful tribute to the late Avicii. Over at cosmicMEADOW, Zeds Dead wowed the crowd per usual and followed into Kayzo’s rowdy nostalgia-ridden set that featured some pop punk and alt rock classics.

The final day, Shiba San played a dance-worthy performance at cosmicMEADOW and R3hab energized the crowd before following into Rezz’s highly-anticipated circuitGROUNDS set. Hoards of people flooded in to see Rezz drop her signature flavor of face-melting bass. Over at the main stage, SLANDER played a high-energy set and closed out with a remix of their head-banging track “After All.” Tchami and Malaa’s No Redemption Series drew in dedicated house aficionados and even made people sitting on the bleachers stand up and groove. The final fireworks show ran ten minutes late but made up for it by lighting up the Electric Sky during Martin Garrix’s performance of “Scared to Be Lonely.” Lastly, I watched Zomboy from the sidelines of the bassPOD before deciding to call it a night (my body would thank me later that morning). Reality began to sink in as I slowly made my way towards the exit gates. I walked backwards letting the colors and sensations of the neon-lit landscape wash over me one last time. “Until next year,” I said to myself.

Final Thoughts

This year marked my first time attending EDC. I’ve attended Insomniac raves in the past, but no other music event struck me with an unshakable sense of awe as EDC Las Vegas. There’s an indescribable feeling that comes with being up at odd hours of the night while others are asleep; dancing, vibing, and exploring a space wherein you are free to be your truest self. There were many moments where I stood in sheer disbelief that a place like this could exist. The lights, the sounds, and the bodies all gave way to a weekend full of positive energy and unforgettable memories.  

Insomniac refers to their attendees as Headliners, which in retrospect is quite fitting. The EDC Las Vegas experience is nothing without its people. The people are part of the attraction. It’s the Headliners and their distinctive flavors that ultimately create an environment that’s rooted in respect, good vibes, and an ever-present sense of unity.

This past weekend I became a Headliner—a title that I will proudly embrace wherever I find myself. Until next year, EDC Las Vegas.

The Trance legend Gareth Emery just did his first Laserface performance in New York and it was wild. If you haven’t followed, Gareth made a completely customized show his music and tons and tons of lasers.

Of course since it happened in New York the West Coast fans were begging for one of their own shows right away. He answered their calls with the announcement that Laserface was coming to the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco on March 17^th 2018. Those who were at the New York show said it was mind-blowing so you can expect the same for this next one. Keep your eyes open for the tickets going on sale and check out his video below.

This year the trance-loving crowd will witness the unveiling of their soon-to-be record-breaking laser light display – trust us, this magical show is one that you won’t want to miss!

Melbourne is known for its large-scale EDM festivals. It goes without saying that the Transmission Australia event will be confirming that fact as the stadium will host 20,000 party-goers on September 30, 2017. The organizer of the festival, Evolution Events, explained that the event will be “showcasing what will be the biggest production setup Australia has ever seen”.

That said, you know that one can expect epic memories to be made.

It’s important to note that this will not be the same original dance production that has been seen at the infamous stadium with Sensation and the shows put on by the talented Armin van Buren. However, it will be  the largest laser showcase that the country has ever seen. The audience can also expect special moments to be unveiled during the 3-day production as well as witnessing meaninglessly beautiful stage designs.

“For those who attended Subculture this year or Transmission last year, imagine triple the production for this event from Co2, pyro’s, Special FX and a shit load of Lasers. In fact, we have actually upgraded our laser plot from the required 18 laser fixtures to 54 lasers just to give our patrons the elevated experience of being at Etihad. You don’t get to play with such a venue often, so we just wanted to give the people a proper mind-blowing show!” the organiser confirmed.

If that wasn’t enough to complete your trance bucket list, one can expect to hear incredible sets from Ferry Corsten, Aly & Fila, Markus Schultz, Frontliner, Mandragora, Driftmoon and Sneijder.

The month of September is looking better and better – we absolutely can’t wait to hear about the highlights from this history-breaking phenomenon.
