According to AirDNA, three months ago, bookings were down by 26% compared to the same time last year. While that gap has since narrowed, it’s still not where one would expect; AirDNA also reported that three weeks out from the festival, 48,000 nights had been booked, down 12% from the same time in 2023.

‘If this year follows a similar booking trajectory as last year, a large percentage of bookings could happen in these last remaining days. However, it remains to be seen if demand for this year’s Coachella will catch up to last year or fall short.’

This news follows the slowest ticket sales the festival has seen in years. Historically, Coachella tickets have sold out in within just a few hours, after stressed-out fans endured long virtual ticket queues. This year, tickets went on sale Friday, January 19th, and took almost a month to sell out. Tickets for Weekend 2 are actually still available.

Coachella is set to return April 12th-14th and 19th-21st in Indio, California. This year’s lineup features Doja Cat, Tyler the Creator, Lana Del Rey, No Doubt, Charlotte de Witte, ISOxo & Knock2, Peggy Gou, Adriatique, Mall Grab, LE SSERAFIM, Reinier Zonneveld, Purple Disco Machine, BICEP, Anyma, Steve Angello, John Summit, Dom Dolla, Gesaffelstein, and more.

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is behind a Coachella-themed billboard that says: “Catch more than vibes? FreeSTDcheck.org.” That is certainly a statement. Coachella has contacted them to take it down but the billboard will remain there for both upcoming Coachella weekends on April 12-14 and April 19-21.

On the billboard, you can see a clear picture of the festival. You can see why the festival is unhappy but also this is helpful information for anyone that might catch an STD.

Coachella just announced an NFL-style livestream that will include 6 stages this year. You will be able to play up to 4 stages at once on YouTube and change audio as you need!

The Coachella lineup includes headliners Lana Del Rey, Tyler, The Creator, Doja Cat, and No Doubt. Other high-ticketed EDM performers include Charlotte de Witte, ISOxo & Knock2, Peggy Gou, Adriatique, Mall Grab, LE SSERAFIM, Reinier Zonneveld, Purple Disco Machine, and BICEP.

New Festivals?

This will make for five events per year at the storied desert locale. In 2016, Goldenvoice put a ‘Desert Trip’ featuring the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, and Roger Waters of Pink Floyd. There is some speculation that this might be the type of energy they choose for the next festival in their arsenal.

The Business of It

According to Indio City records, Goldenvoice generates roughly 3.5-Million for the community each year. Goldenvoice does far more than Coachella however. The group operates venues all over California. Their parent company AEG manages more than 25 music festivals, and 100 clubs globally. In addition AEG has entire divisions devoted to Sports, Entertainment, and Real Estate. 

Alexander Haagen III, owner of the Empire Polo Club said:

After two years of Noachella, we are excited to see the largest mixed-genre festival in North America make its slated return for 2022. Headliners Travis Scott, Swedish House Mafia, and Rage Against the Machine should draw some good crowds, especially after the pandemic. The dates for weekends one and two are April 15-17, and 22-24 respectively. Its country little brother, Stagecoach, is set for April 29-May 1.

On Monday, Swedish House Mafia quietly announced an arena tour with sudden appearances of billboards in venues all over the world. With stops such as Miami’s FTX Arena and Las Vegas’ Aria, Coachella now joins the new list of set performances.

Festival-goers are in for a special treat for the revival of Coachella. Swedish House Mafia is sure to be only one of many of the surprises in store for fans looking to indulge themselves with music at Indio Valley. Do you think SHM will get a top headliner billing?

Memento Mori Hosting

As if the news so far wasn’t enough, the trio just announced that they will be hosting Episode Twenty of Memento Mori, The Weeknd‘s Apple Music show. The show will hit the airwaves tomorrow at 8pm PST. It sounds like this show will provide the very first opportunity for SHM to premiere ‘Moth to a Flame’ ahead of a Friday release.

And of course, the polo fields — the temperate climate, the beautiful grounds, the gorgeous atmosphere — really makes the festival unique. And most importantly, the curation. The festival has consistently been ahead of the curve and presented the very best in what’s happening in popular music.

Any genre has a place on Coachella’s main stage. Performances from Kanye West, Travis Scott, Tame Impala, Bad Bunny, and more have proven that to be true. Coachella knows that any music has the ability to draw out a large crowd, so they don’t limit themselves in the type of talent they book.

In addition, the documentary showed how Daft Punk’s performance in 2006 changed everything for electronic music. It not paved the way for the genre to spike in popularity, but also made LED visuals and huge stage setups a norm for memorable experiences on-stage.

Coachella’s success doesn’t solely come from the mix-genre talent they book annual. They’ve created an incredible culture and experience surrounding the festival that brings people back every year. Needless to say, there are thousands of fans that love Coachella for the music, art, food, and experience it has to offer. On March 31st, ‘Coachella: 20 Years in the Desert’ will debut for fans to stream. The film will feature performances by major acts like Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem, Radiohead, Björk, Rage Against The Machine, and more. Seen as one of the biggest events in music, Coachella continues to proliferate each year. What better way than to celebrate two decades worth of Coachella than with a documentary.

Chris Perkel, producer and director of the film, highlights the history, performances, and untold stories that makeup Coachella’s history. The film will feature exclusive interviews and performance footage from a plethora of artists. Since Coachella has been running every year since 1999, the film wants to focus on the festival’s origins and behind-the-scene moments.

YouTube also announced that it will continue as the festival’s exclusive live streaming partner for Coachella 2020. This marks YouTube’s tenth consecutive year to live stream Coachella around the world. The announcement of both the Coachella 20th anniversary documentary comes shortly after the Coachella lineup announcement. Coachella 2020 will run for two weekends of April 10-12 and April 17-19.

Paradigm has the largest share of artists on the bill, leading at 35%. So roughly 1 out of every 3 artists are from their agency. However, it’s worth noting that Paradigm has roughly 1k more artists than the next largest agency, so it’s not that surprising that they dominated the lineup this year. Just four agencies- Paradigm, WME, CAA, and UTA represent almost 75% of the Coachella lineup.

This infographic below analyzes the poster position of the artists and their respective agencies. It’s been broken down by: headliners (top row on the poster), sub-headliners (2nd row), 3rd Row & 4th Row+ (undercard).

So although Paradigm has the most artists overall, the bulk of their artists (73%) are on the undercard. WME and CAA had higher success rates of seeing their artists appear on the 3rd row or above. The traditional agency power-houses, WME and CAA may have fewer artists than Paradigm, but their artists have more of an impact and the agencies see a significantly higher proportion of the arists on the top of the lineup.

It’s good to know that there isn’t a giant monopoly in music and that artists can still have major opportunities no matter which agency they go with. ROSTR will continue to follow on Coachella’s future lineups to compare and contrast future trends and changes.

Nevertheless, Ultra Miami came and went without much evidence to substantiate that excessive amounts of copulation took place.

Along with that, let us not forget about the dreaded Monday following the festival. An infamous day which allegedly delivers what’s known as ‘Coachella Lung‘ to festival goers as a parting gift. This is something so prevalent that area news outlets consult doctors and report tips to stave off the dreaded ailment. With this shocking herpes news it makes you wonder if an annual ‘post-Coachella-herpes-test’ will become part of the festivities too.

Overall, 2019 is yet another tough year for Coachella to have to dust itself off from. While it avoided most of the logistical nightmares that victimized other large festivals, it is taking quite a few “L’s.” Here we are nearly a week since the party ended and the bad news is still rolling in. Regardless, it seems to always regroup itself then- the party continues. It’s impossible to predict how Coachella could possibly outdo itself when next year rolls around. But hey, that’s what we all thought last year.

The fire department was called and contained the fire. Reportedly the explosion took place in the mobile shower unit of the campsite, destroying 1 trailer and damaging another. The explosion was likely the propane used to heat the shower.

Every year Coachella hits Indio, California, and pandemonium ensues. Not just at the festival, but before it as well. This year is no different. As in years past, the festival sold out almost instantly after tickets went on sale.

Last year, tickets for Weekend One were bought up within 35 minutes, with Weekend Two passes selling out within just a few hours. In years prior, we’ve seen the festival completely sell out in as fast 2 hours and 37 minutes.

This years festival saw tickets for Weekend One sell out in just 40 Minutes after going on sale at just 11 a.m. PST. Within 6 Hours, passes for Weekend Two were also completely sold out.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival  will be returning to Empire Polo Club the weekends of April 12-14, and April 19-21. It will feature superstar electronic acts such as DJ Snake, Fisher, Cirez D and Nicole Moudaber. It will also feature veteran DJs like Gesaffelstein, Deep Dish, and Aphex Twin.
