To safeguard EXIT’s independence and the values it fiercely upholds, the festival launched a global crowdfunding campaign. The goal is to ensure the immediate stability of the festival organization and protect over 100 permanent jobs. These are individuals who, despite unprecedented pressure and financial obstacles, stood united in support of the student movement, fully aware that taking a stand could lead to the shutdown of the organization. EXIT Festival was born from a dream of freedom 25 years ago, sparked by young people who refused to stay silent in the face of Balkan wars and political oppression. Since then, it has grown into one of the world’s largest music festivals, twice winning the Best Major Festival at the European Festival Awards (EFA) and currently holding the EFA’s prestigious Take a Stand Award, presented annually to festivals that courageously advocate for human rights, social justice, and positive change in society.

“Ever since we publicly stood with the students of Serbia… we have been subjected to immense financial and political pressures,” the festival’s official statement reads. “Despite being completely cut off from public funding… and with some sponsors forced to withdraw under state pressure, we refuse to be silenced.”

EXIT’s founder and director, Dušan Kovačević, called the decision “the hardest in our 25-year history,” but emphasized that freedom has no price. He invited cultural figures and institutions worldwide to stand in solidarity with EXIT’s stance against censorship and repression.

One Last Dance at the Fortress

EXIT 2025 will still take place from July 10–13 in Novi Sad, at the Petrovaradin Fortress — the site that has become synonymous with the festival’s vibrant and defiant spirit. Organizers promise the most emotional and unforgettable edition yet, turning what could be a swan song into a statement of unity, resilience, and love.

EXIT Starseeds will kick off with a special Starseeds Takeover performance on Tesla Universe Stage reserved for day zero. The festival will then welcome headliners Gucci Mane, the Black Eyed Peas, and Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello. Legendary mts Dance Arena will host Carl Cox, Bonobo, KlangKuenstler, Sama’ Abdulhadi, Barry Can’t Swim, Franky Wah, and Mene. Tesla Universe Stage will also showcase leaders among the new generation of artists Kenya Grace and Iniko, as well as Rudimental, John Newman, The Exploited, Dub FX, Willy William, Ian Asher, and Steve Angello, and Joker Out.

Boris’ EXIT EP is made up of 3 songs, each just as good as the last. The opening track is eponymously named ‘Exit‘, and features what sounds like the evacuation sequence of a spaceship of some sort. It is easily the hardest track of three, in my opinion. ‘The Caravan‘ reminds me of a circus of sorts, as it features some of the most playful melodies I’ve heard in a very long time. This is honestly a tune that I can’t wait to hear played out live. It also features some neat sound design that I can’t get enough of. ‘Cruise Lane‘ is arguably the most progressive of the three, and is a smooth 8 minutes, and 5 seconds long. According to Serbia’s Prime Minister Ana Brnabić, the government has “formulated a directive to move the EXIT festival to August, because [they] expect the situation [with the pandemic] to completely die out throughout Europe” by that time.

Of course, precautionary measures such as reducing the event capacity will need to be taken. Rumours are suggesting that the capacity would be half of its usual size. (For reference, the current capacity is 55,000 attendees per day across 40 stages.) Nevertheless, it’s certainly a win for the music industry as organisers finally regain “the opportunity to be together with our fans and favourite artists.”

“The health and safety of the audience and everyone involved at the festival is our top priority. Between fear and optimism, we always choose the latter, and we’re thrilled that we will have opportunity to be together with our fans and favourite artists this summer.”

EXIT Festival’s 2020 edition will be marking the festival’s 20th anniversary. Originally set to take place from July 9 to 12, the festival had already announced an impressive lineup. This included festival favorites such as David Guetta, Fatboy Slim, Boris Brejcha, Meduza, ARTBAT, and ZHU. A festival that has won the title of ‘Best European Music Festival twice, EXIT will definitely be the highlight of the summer for many.

While Jarre surprised Edward Snowden with his proposal to work together, the two ultimately met up in Russia to work on the track. The song was named “Exit” by Snowden, who explained, “It’s about an action which may change everything from where we are to another direction, a departure to somewhere else.” The track features pointed quotes from Snowden, such as “technology can actually increase privacy” and “saying that you don’t care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different to saying you don’t care about freedom of speech because you have nothing to say.” These quotes perfectly complement this frenzied techno track which Jarre fitting explained as “evoking the constant and hectic production of data and the obsessive quest for more information.”
