A one-of-a-kind producer, MY BAD seeks to get more people to appreciate EDM through this latest project. He also wants to showcase the power of blending genres together, especially for artists seeking to stand out as EDM producers or artists, especially with how many there are today. “It’s been hard trying to find myself so that I can represent a brand that other people can latch onto and follow me as I release music I love“, MY BAD explains.

MY BAD also sees the successful EP as an inspiration to the many young artists struggling to pave their way into music. He acknowledges the many struggles that artists face but also remains steadfast that everyone has the potential to realize their success. He shares a real-life experience during his musical career, especially when he took a step back last year and dove into his roots on why he decided to do this in the first place, which is how this name and EP came to be. “I realized that I hold so much music back trying to perfect it, and it’s better off being out and into the world. I grew up listening to primary dubstep and bass music and wanted to showcase my spin on the OG sound that I loved with a touch of 2023 style“, he explains.

In the midst of what seems to be one of the scariest and most frustrating times in recent memory, Above & Beyond have sent us a message of hope and happiness in the form of a “respray”. They’ve taken the mega-collab ‘All In’ from Genix, Jaytech, Fatum and Judah and given it a proper A&B facelift.

The consistent message you’ll see around the world is one of hope and inclusion- that even in these trying times, we are certainly all in this together; which makes the timing of this track’s adaptation all the more perfect.

From a production standpoint, Above & Beyond hit the nail on the head with this respray. They added their own elements while masterfully keeping the original’s sound intact. The biggest difference between the original and the respray is the opening drop. The drop kicks in with a rolling bassline with a familiar sounding melody layered on top reminiscent of the trio’s Tri-State days.

The buildup is almost untouched, with a soothing piano melody added in to give it an uplifting flare. The drop stays powerful and big, with the final breakdown being a piano solo to sooth the ear.

Staying true to the times, Above & Beyond will be doing live streams throughout the week, with Tony McGuinness recreating ‘Trance Around the World 002’ tomorrow and their regular scheduled ABGT broadcast on Friday.

Preceding this release, the producer partook in a grand collaboration with Fatum, Jaytech and Judah titled ‘All In‘. Forwarding to the current moment, Genix continues his releases this year nodding back to his inspirations. He described the new track:

‘Open Your Eyes’ is a love letter to the classic rave culture and trance he grew up on, evoking the likes of Faithless and Sasha for this head-down, full throttle anthem.

‘Open Your Eyes’ is certainly an awe-inspiring nod towards the music that has shaped Genix. The pulsating rhythm introducing the song eases it an the ethereal breakdown. From there, the track strips itself to the pads and delicate spoken word. This all accumulates into a driving trance track merging the Genix sound alongside the classic influences.

If you feel familiar with the track, it’s probably because it featured on Anjunabeats Volume 14. It showed up alongside his own ‘Boom Box‘ and the aforementioned ‘All In’. This allowed his productions to pull into a space occupying some of Anjuna’s other juggernaut talents. To name a few artists on the compilation, Matt Lange, Andrew Bayer, Spencer Brown, Ilan Bluestone, and Jason Ross all had their work showcased.

We have an absolute heater coming in from the Anjuna kitchen today. Progressive trance phenoms Fatum, Genix, Jaytech, and Judah all join forces on a new track appropriately titled, ‘All In’. Fatum, comprised of Chad Newbold, Bruce Karlsson, and Daniel Davis, Genix, Jaytech, and Judah (Daniel Paul Davis and Christopher Nelson) make it seven heads on one track, arguably the most artists on a single release.

‘All In’ first premiered at ASOT 900 when Above & Beyond dropped it during their set. Since then, the trio have been playing it out at their shows and have reported back that it goes down quite well on the dancefloor. And for good reason, too.

The track showcases each of the artists’ styles, blending each of their sounds masterfully. The buildup beat in the beginning has Genix’s techno/trance rhythm all over it. The opening drop at one minute in sounds like a vintage hallow and dark Fatum bassline. The breakdown has traces of both Jaytech and Judah’s sound; a calm, steady beat with an uplifting melody.

The main drop is a wonderful release of energy. It feels as though it’s not one artist’s sound but a collective composition by all four producers. The vocal sample, “We’re all in on this”, plays throughout the bassline, giving off a catchy and signature hook every listener will remember. Really, really good work here by this quartet of producers.

Mr. Carmack- All In, with Kehlani

Mr. Carmack is a legend. He seems to be a producer who couldn’t choose between quality or quantity and decided on both. The Hawaiian based artist has a remarkably extensive musical catalogue, having dropped numerous albums and EP’s while twice reaching the #1 spot on Bandcamp. With such an impressive career, Mr. Carmack was the perfect candidate to take part in Adidas’ new series, Songs from Scratch. This project looked to outline the details of a collaborative effort between two passionate artists. Electronic artists have been well represented, with notable releases from Chet Faker x Goldlink, Jeremih x Shlohmo and Tory Lanez x Snakehips.

Songs from Scratch takes us through Mr. Carmack’s journey in creating ‘All In‘ with the talented singer Kehlani. The episode provides a unique perspective into his mental process, showing how his recent relationship problems permeate onto this soulful and emotional track. This gives the track a genuine feel, as its relaxing pace and delicate energy suggest its immense passion. The irresistibly smooth cello heard towards the end is also explained, which was delivered by a classically trained cellist within 30 minutes of Mr. Carmack’s request.
