Going through the album, it’s clearly a heartfelt expression of cultivated experiences throughout their years. Moreover, the body is packed with either stories evoking lessons, all while the production showcases their sonic growth. Besides, titling it ‘…With Opened Eyes’, in a way, looking at things earnestly, furthers the concept.

Overall, the electronic R&B duo take us on a journey that invokes their past sounds with modern influences. You’ll find some thumping moments that call us to the dance floor while others leave a serene imprint. However, the unique grooves never fail to find their way into each song, bringing much life into their style.

Initially, Vindata burgeoned onto the dance music scene by setting up a flourishing combination of genres. Specifically, they found themselves within meshing hip-hop, soul due to their church upbringing, and downtempo electronic. Additionally, their transition into club and festival culture opened their eyes to the disproportionate amount of Black artists DJ’ing at raves, despite the genre’s roots firmly planted in Black tradition. Striving to reshape dance music’s landscape, Vindata is using their platform and their deeply personal stories on this album to uplift burgeoning bipoc creators across electronic music and beyond.

With each release, Vindata have been establishing their distinct sound which is rooted in R&B. “’One Time’ is about that moment you completely let your guard down and allow yourself to be vulnerable. It’s an intense feeling based on fear, happiness, and potentially love. We spend our time reflecting on what we think love is based on – our most recent experiences – but let’s just live in the experience and hope it grows into true love.”

‘One Time’ introduces itself with silky and gripping vocals alongside the soft production, with one vocal hook topping the other. Reaching the chorus, the electronic elements become more prominent especially with the pitched vocal-chops which control the melody in tandem with the synth leads. Overall, the collaboration between the artists has a groove and infectious swing to it that demands replay.

‘Already Home’ forms a soul-like production that is laced with moving vocals. Moreover, the dichotomy throughout silky female vocals and stark male vocals prove fundamental. Overall, Vindata provide an infectious combination of electronic music and r&b to form their very unique sound.

Recently, Skrillex has been dabbling in the production of rap remixes and originals such as Rick Ross‘ infectious ‘Purple Lamborghini.’ Experimenting outside the dubstep realm seems to be working in Skrillex’s favor; in 2017, Forbes named Moore the world’s fourth highest-paid DJ, earning approximately $30 million this year alone.

‘Parachute’ is one of eight tracks featured on NSTASIA’s upcoming R&B/Soul album New Religion out Friday, Nov. 17. There are even some internet trolls speculating that NSTASIA will be joining the OWSLA roster in the near future.

Wax Motif & Vindata – Crazy

Australian beatmaker Wax Motif and LA-based producers Vindata, released a hard hitting new track today, “Crazy“. The track certainly lives up to its name, combining the production strengths of both artists resulting in a bass heavy banger.

The track revolves around a pitched-up female vocalist, and a pitched-down male vocalist, seemingly having a conversation discussing the volatility of their chaotic relationship. The track builds to a climax until the drop, when all hell breaks lose.

The single was released with a music video, a slow motion anime re-enactment of what can only be described as the most destructive break up of all time.

Mija & Vindata- Better

Ever since she went back to back with Skrillex for a 2014 Bonnaroo sunrise set, Mija has seen her career explode. She is now a member of Skrillex’s label OWSLA, for whom she has recently dropped an excellent collaboration with Ghastly and Lil Jon as well as a smooth remix of DJ Snake’s hit track, “Middle.” She has also delighted her fans by showcasing her remarkable mixing abilities, releasing the third installment of her “Welcome To My House” series as well as her electrifying Ultra set. After releasing a string of remixes of songs such as Zimmer’s “Escape,” Major Lazer’s “Be Together” and Darren Styles’ “Come Running,” she is now dropping another OWSLA original, a collaboration with the talented Vindata titled “Better.”

“Better” effortlessly crafts an airy and pleasant atmosphere, lightly buzzing with cheerful energy. The song’s melodic infusion of future bass showcases Vindata’s distinctive style, which proves to seamlessly mesh with Mija’s skill set. “Better” is consistently happy and bubbly throughout, injecting kawaii elements in a track that is a sharp departure from some of Mija’s more hard-hitting work. Regardless, the track adds to the impressive musical catalogues of both of these artists while becoming another impressive release in the OWSLA library.

OWSLA Radio Episode 8

Remember the days when we used to have to compile all of these individual songs and put them in our own creative playlists? Well those days are gone, thanks to the bi-weekly curated radio sessions of OWSLA Radio and the latest chapter, Episode 8. At the helm again, Skrillex brings some of the OWSLA label’s star artists including Vindata, Josh Pan, and dubstep headsplitter Getter. This week though, Skrillex gives shout outs to young, new producers that are making dubstep.  One of those artists we hear a lot from is Oshi, a 17-year old fast rising dance music prodigy. The producer has set the bar very high with some of his latest remixes and original releases. And being a featured artist in a radio series that reaches millions across the country and highlights up and coming artists is a surefire way to build even more momentum.
