After becoming a standout moment on their Bigger Than All Of Us album and a fan favorite across their North American tour, Above & Beyond’s collaboration with rising star Malou – ‘Letting Go’ – receives an expansive remix package this week on Anjunabeats. The December 11 release sees the beloved track reimagined for dancefloors and deeper listening alike, with brand-new remixes from Rinzen and Drove, alongside the previously released Above & Beyond Club Mix and extended versions of each cut.

Originally released in July, ‘Letting Go’ was the first collaboration between Above & Beyond and German-Hawaiian singer-songwriter Malou, whose introspective, soulful vocals have helped define a new generation of emotive electronic music. Her credits include the breakout hit ‘Breathing’ with Ben Böhmer and Nils Hoffmann (Anjunadeep, 2019), and here, she brings vulnerability and clarity to one of the most emotionally resonant moments on A&B’s Bigger Than All Of Us.

It’s honestly a surreal feeling to remix Above & Beyond, I’ve been listening to their music for 15 years. I absolutely love everything Malou does as well, so it’s a big honor to put my spin on ‘Letting Go’.

As the group’s North American amphitheater tour got underway in summer 2025, ‘Letting Go’ took on a second life. Above & Beyond debuted a powerful new Club Mix – darkening the synth palette, upping the tempo, and transforming the track into a euphoric peak-time anthem. Summer 2025 Mixtape

Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of the upcoming mixtape, especially hoping to hear IDs they recently experienced at shows. They are also guessing which of their favourite TNH artists might have hidden IDs in the 17 unreleased tracks. Can you speculate whether Rinzen and Sultan + Shepard are among them? We also wonder if there are any usual suspects included. ID 5 is definitely the Proper NYE ID. And ID 6 was one I heard at the Toronto Childish show, do any of these IDs ring a bell from the last few weeks shows? Lane 8 will be featuring tracks from artists like Rebel of Sleep, Röyksopp, Chris Lake, Adam Ten, Barry Can’t Swim, Joris Vroon, and many more. Be sure to check out the entire tracklist!

One remix that Lane 8 has created, which we didn’t know we needed but now can’t stop listening to, is ‘Quicksand’ by the trio Above & Beyond. This track reminds me of his remix of ‘Sticky Fingers.’ It’s exciting as we eagerly await the release of their album this summer!

ID’s & Childish Tour

One song that surprised all of us is ‘Bird ID’ – turns out friends it a remix version of ‘Yerbatero’ from Juanes. I first heard it in Miami during the We Belong Here event, and then again recently at Rebel in Toronto just a few weeks ago. With the Yonder pouches for Daniel’s shows on the Childish Tour, you have to rely on either your memory or jotting down notes to remember the amazing three-hour set. Having this playlist really helps us for the next time we see Daniel live.

If you’ve been following my articles, you know how emotional this artist makes me, as well as the entire team at EDMTunes. For new readers and fans who haven’t seen him perform live, I strongly encourage you to check out Lane 8 at his This Never Happened shows. While festivals are fantastic, the no-phone policy and the emphasis on being in the moment can be nerve-wracking, yet it offers probably the best experience in our busy lives.

‘Before The Storm’

‘Before The Storm’ is a masterfully crafted, richly layered melodic progressive house track that brilliantly highlighting the unique strengths of Sultan + Shepard and Rinzen. From the very beginning, the track encompasses listeners with its atmospheric textures and delicately woven percussion. Rinzen’s cinematic touch is immediately apparent through the expansive synth pads, soft reverb tails, and tension building ambient elements. The subtle introduction of a kick drum creates a serene yet anticipative mood in the first minute, vividly illustrating the calm before the storm.

As we move past the one minute mark, the track strategically layers rhythmic elements. Sultan + Shepard elevate the experience with their melodic finesse, presenting a lead synth arpeggio that is bright yet moody. At around two and a half minutes, we encounter the first drop. Here rather than being overly explosive, unfolds into an emotionally expansive moment that envelops the listener in a rich, melodic embrace over a solid groove. As the journey continues, Rinzen’s narrative driven style takes center stage, crafting an immersive and cinematic arc of tension. Additional harmonic layers, like the minor chord stabs, amplify the emotional resonance and depth of the track. The synths gradually expand, we hear a slowburn peak.

In its conclusion, the melodies gracefully taper off while the rhythm eases, creating a sense of resolution. As the track draws to a close, listeners enjoy a complete emotional journey, where the atmosphere gently fades into silence.

Communicate EP

We are still ringing from the Circle In Time: The Trilogy release. And our favourite duo S+S return with a 7 track EP, Communicate. Staying true to their roots, they skillfully weave a rich tapestry of sound with an eclectic collection of instruments, perfectly capturing the essence of underground vibes. They hint at each track being crafted with the dancefloor in mind,with an unforgettable experience for listeners. Their first track ‘Before The Storm’ a collaboration with Rinzen is nothing short of remarkable. This piece not only highlights their exceptional artistry but also leaves an indelible mark on the progressive house genre. I’m eagerly anticipating the release of the remaining six tracks, as I know they will be equally compelling.

Top 10 Breakout Artists

10. ALLEYCVT

The North Virginia native blew our minds this year and begins our breakout artists list. A rising star in Bass music, the DJ released bangers such as ‘ONE FOR YOU’ alongside Levity, and ‘Stratosphere’. Her fresh sounds and flow took her on a journey for her Feel It Tour all around the US. Besides, the success of the tour opened up the door for the spring portion, starting in February 2025. We will headbang alongside ALLEYCVT every step of the way!

9. Levity

The iconic Bass Trio from the Midwest jumped into the spotlight with their surprise performance in Electric Forest 2023, when they subbed for an artist who couldn’t make it to their performance. Since then, they have influenced the industry with their take on Dubstep, Trap, and Future Bass. Their debut EP ‘Escapism Vol I’ truly encapsulates their brand and what’s yet to come. Moreover, they were able to headline Electric Forest but this time officially, for a set that took us above and beyond. They say three is a crowd but we feel it’s the right number for Levity.

8. ANOTR

Relax my eyeeees, I see flashing lights, but we’re not aloooneee (insert string arrangement riff). After a two-year hiatus from producing, the Dutch duo came full throttle for 2024. Sold-out shows, and the reintroduction of No Art events brought ANOTR back into the spotlight. The duo who blends Disco, Jazz, and Soul into their tracks breaks all rules to provide us with euphoric experiences each time. No Art took it upon making the no-phone statement a relevant option for events, bringing connection and music back to the forefront of this social media era.

7. Goom Gum

Turking Melodic Techno Duo Goom Gum had a major year. Their hypnotizing sounds grew exponentially with releases such as Their Raffa Guido’s ‘Famax’ Acid-filled remix, and their ‘Staccato’ and ‘Devotion’ double release. The AVTOOK label leads also enjoyed support from Anyma, Zamna Records, Cassian, and more. Furthermore, they ranked amongstthe top producers on the Future of Dance list. The future is Techno.

6. HUGEL

French DJ and Latin House producer HUGEL gave us so much flavor this year. He gave us some of the nastiest beats including ‘Stay High’ with Diplo and Julia Child and Andalucia with GROSSOMODO. Standout performances include his own Boiler Room inside a McDonald’s, and playing alongside Ludacris during Art Basel. Moreover, HUGEL dove into the fashion world alongside TAFARI and KAMALI for the debut of TAFARI WORLD. The apparel brand is a forward-thinking and innovative take on modern streetwear. Similar to ZHU or Anyma, the artist has been able to showcase his creativity through different outlets, besides music.

5. Alex Wann

One of the newest names on our list. Afro/Deep-House DJ Alex Wann comes all the way from Paris to deliver the sweetest grooves. This year picked up the pace after his remix release of Kelis’ ‘Milkshake’. Since then, Wann released tracks with Aaron Hibell and Liva K, and has remixed the likes of Jess Glynne, WhoMadeWho and Adriatique. His tour this year took him from Ibiza, all the way to EDC Las Vegas. We hope his melodies and beats take us further and further next year.

4. Keinemusik

The German Afro-House trio Keinemusik is its own category. Adam Port, Rampa, and &ME managed to bring their A-Game into this year. The cloud made its rounds on our favorite dancefloors around the world this year. 2024 consisted of sold-out shows, extremely viral moments, and lots of fundraising. Keinemusik ought to have an incredible 2025. Of course, we need to highlight ‘Move’, by Adam Port and Stryv, chosen as the number 1 song on One World Radio for 2024. Besides, with a remix including Camila Cabello, and another one by Anyma, segments this track as a legendary song for years to come.

3. Layton Giordani

The NYC-based artist, also known as “Slayton” or “babygurl” if you’re chronically online as we are, made it all the way to our Breakout Top 3 this year. Yes, Layton has been on our radar for ages, but he finally makes it into our breakout artist selection this time around. The ‘New Generation’ producer went through a major rebranding this year, which swayed his style from an all-Techno note to a masterful mashup with House. Giordani had major highlights this year including the releases of Sharam’s ‘PATT (Adam Beyer, Layton Giordani & Green Velvet Remix)’, and Loofy’s ‘Last Night (Anyma x Layton Giordani Remix)’. The DJ also showcased his newfound sound with tracks like ‘Paranoid’ and ‘Freaks at Night’. We will always be supporting Slayton in years and years to come.

2. Odd Mob

Australian DJ Harry Hope’s solo project made it to our top 2 breakout stars. It had originally started as a duo back in the day. However, Odd Mob truly rose in popularity while joining OMNOM for the release of ‘Losing Control’. This year, the producer has continuously released banger after, banger, including his remixes Andruss’ ‘Frikitona’ and John Summit & venbee’s ‘palm of my hands’. His dark textures carry the groove into sunrise, and had us dancing all year. Moreover, his Hyperbeam collab set with OMNOM for EDC LAs Vegas blew our minds away.

1. Max Styler

The man of the moment, our top breakout artist of 2024, Californian producer Max Styler had an incredible year. From continuous support from Gorgon City, John Summit, and plenty others, the producer had us dancing nonstop. Styler had over 10 major releases this year, including ‘Touch’ with Gorgon City, and his remixes for John Summit & Paige Cavell’s ‘Tears’ and the classic ‘Tarantula’ by Pleasurekraft. His dark-driven sounds send us into the stratosphere on each set, and take Tech-House to a different realm. His journey includes his Progressive House alter ego HABITATT, letting us levitate into the night. This was truly his year and his year only.

Summer 2024 Mixtape

ID 1

Spanning over a beautiful 3-hour playtime containing 48 tracks and 16 unreleased IDs. Obviously I need a whole subheading for ID 1 – showcases my excitement. Do you recognize the first ID, from any of the Maestro Lane 8’s live performances this year? It goes, “Wake up where you are!” I first heard this track at his Igloofest set in Montreal. If you happened to be at the San Diego Summer Gatherings you’d have heard Daniel throw this in his set as well. This ID has the tell signs of a perfect new collaboration with our beloved Kasablanca boys. Part of Kasablanca’s rumored album, or will it finally be included in Lane 8’s next album?

Fans eagerly await a new album since Brightest Lights is four and a half years old. It’s long overdue! Daniel has been relatively quiet this year, focusing on his Summer Gatherings show and various festivals. One can’t help but hope that his silence means he’s been crafting some truly spectacular music for us in the studio. A sneak peak below of ID 1 from Igloofest for all my lovely readers!

All Other IDs + Tracks

The mixtape features tracks from TNH artists such as EMBRZ, Rinzen, Paradoks, OCULA, Paris, and Otherwish. There are also a couple of unreleased remixes, including Sultan & Shepard’s ‘All I Know’ from their remixed album Endless Dawn. An unreleased remix of Bon Iver’s ‘22 (OVER S∞∞N)’ by OLING really impressed me. There are 16 amazing new IDs. I particularly noticed OCULA’s presence in ID 4 and 6. And of course, how can Daniel forget to include Massane’s upcoming EP? Listen to ID 9, 10, and 13 – they could be part of his upcoming Visage 7 series! I can’t seem to figure out the mystery behind ID 16, so if anyone does, please let me know as I can’t stop hitting the replay button on that track. The mix also features new tunes from Simon Doty, My Friend, Stella Bossi, Nox Vahn, Tinlicker, Christian Löffler, and many others.

Bend To The Light

In the two months between announcement and delivery, Bend To The Light released three singles. The first was ‘Burning’ featuring Shalou, followed by ‘The Pursuit’, and finally ‘Déjà Vu’ featuring Molly Moonwater. These tracks have earned support from prominent names such as Billboard, DJ Mag, Ibiza Global Radio, Mixmag, and SiriusXM, among others. Now, on April 5th, the tracklist grows from 3 to 10. While the album has yet to be experienced in full, a majority of its 10 cuts may sound familiar. Lane 8 played two of the album tracks in his recent mixtape. ‘I Wanna Be Right’ and ‘Astronauta’ towards the end of his mixtape are perfect upbeat and beautiful tracks to come to the end of a journey of 2.5 hours with.

Rizen has drawn inspiration from a cyberpunk aesthetic for his album concept. He has created a high-tech world set in the near-future, featuring interplanetary civilizations. The album’s title explores the idea of surrendering to the universe from a spiritual perspective. It encourages molding oneself towards an authoritative figure and making decisions bending towards the light. Rinzen shares his story on the journey of creation of this masterpiece on his social media ahead of his album release.

Stand Out Tracks

Mike’s vision for this album is to depict a near-future new high-tech world of interplanetary travel, and a dark shadow hides below all the glistens. Upon listening to these 10 tracks, their futuristic, cinematic style will captivate you. It evokes the new worldscapes and you will point out the tracks that are more club-centered. A show-stopper track to me is ‘Astronauta’. As I listen to the song I feel like I am on a journey in space, an interstellar trip. The distorted notes layered, the music feeling like the swooshing of passing asteroids. The soulful synth is created from a granulator processing the human voice. Through this spatial experience, peers through human emotion.

The album revolves around the theme of emotion. This is evident from the very first track ‘Burning’ featuring Shallou’s soulful vocals, as well as we progress through the album with ‘Astronauta’ and ‘Empires (Interlude)’ touching the heart strings as well . Rinzen shares his thoughts on the theme and ‘Astronauta’.

Emotion is a big part of this album, and this Portuguese vocal spoke directly to my soul. The feeling was so amazing, I knew I had to use it. Vocoders and granulators were a vital part of the album, and on this song in particular I really pushed myself to achieve something
special with sound design and vocal processing

Rinzen

‘Planets Passing Overhead’ is a track where Rinzen’s futuristic approach with the drums and cybel is evident throughout the song, with synths adding a sci-fi touch. It’s a refreshing addition to the electronic music scene and a great inclusion in this album. Lane 8 and Yotto shared this beautiful track ‘I Wanna Be Right’ for the first time at Dreamstate. It was a prefect track towards the end of their set. Forming a core memory for me whilst the crowd danced in joy in the cool rainy November evening. A perfect closing track, happy, catchy and just a ray full of hope in this new universe built by Rinzen.

‘Déjà Vu’

Did you recognize this track? Lane 8, the boss of This Never Happened, featured it in his mixtape that was released last week. ‘Déjà Vu’ is the final release by Rinzen before his album drops on TNH on April 5th. The song begins with Moonwater’s upbeat voice along with glissando bass notes, creating an ominous vibe, and Rinzen incorporates a chunky synth melody. Sundius’ sci-fi concept is once again portrayed through this track, bringing out a contrasting theme of harsh reality and hopeful intention. Rinzen highlights his choice of collaboration with Molly Moonwater or known as her indie/alt moniker Sophia Bel.

‘Molly Moonwater’s original demo of ‘Déjà Vu’ was very slow and felt like a ‘90s ballad, but I was enchanted by her vocalS. Lane 8 dropped his first seasonal mixtape of 2024 last week. It was almost three hours of pure bliss that included three brand new tracks from Rinzen’s upcoming album. So now fans have heard more than half the album and I must say I am super excited for this treasure to be added onto the accolades of TNH. Get ready for an epic release and catch him play live this Spring. He will be supporting Sultan & Shepard’s live tour in Toronto on April 19.
