Empire of the Sun played Forest Hills Stadium on the Ask That God: Afterlife Tour and delivered a tight, high-production synth-pop set that mixed newer material with their biggest tracks.

The historic outdoor venue suited the scale. Luke Steele took the stage in full costume with a live band and dancers. Large screens, sharp lighting changes, and consistent stage movement kept the focus on the performance throughout. Sound was clean across the stadium—synths, bass, and vocals all cut clearly without mud.

They opened with ‘Desire,’ then moved through ‘Changes,’ ‘Half Mast,’ ‘Old Flavours,’ and ‘Cherry Blossom.’ Crowd energy built steadily from the first few songs. People were engaged early, moving and watching the stage closely. The first major response came on ‘We Are the People,’ with the stadium singing the chorus back in full volume. Mid-set held steady with ‘Television,’ ‘High and Low,’ ‘Music on the Radio,’ ‘Revolve,’ and ‘Swordfish Hotkiss Night.’ Newer tracks sat comfortably next to the older ones and avoided turning the night into pure nostalgia. The crowd stayed locked in through these sections, responding on the stronger hooks without dropping off between songs.

The closing run started with ‘Walking on a Dream,’ which brought the biggest sing-along of the night. The full stadium locked in on the chorus and stayed loud through the end of the track. ‘Tiger by My Side’ followed immediately and kept the momentum with a faster pace and sharper edges. They closed on ‘Alive,’ where the production peaked—full lighting and stage visuals running at maximum. Steele and the band pushed the final section hard without extending it past its natural end.

To recap, Empire of the Sun delivered an exceptional performance where there was never a boring moment, and that’s to be expected when they have such an extensive discography of hits. The sold out stadium was in high spirits throughout the night with everyone singing along and vibing to each lyric and drop.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent the last few years scouring Tracklists and RIP-ing grainy festival sets just to get a taste of that unreleased Eric Prydz ID magic. But tonight, the Swedish maestro returns to the airwaves for the first time in what feels like an eternity. To celebrate the return of EPIC Radio, Eric sat down for a rare, deep-dive interview to clear the air on where he’s been and—more importantly—where he’s taking us in 2026.

The Return of EPIC Radio

Eric hasn’t done an interview in quite some time, but he’s breaking his silence because he genuinely missed the connection with his fans [01:28]. He admits he might have taken a break “a little bit too long,” but the hiatus was purely down to a relentless touring schedule [02:46].

Now, he’s back with a “rusty but excited” energy and a hard drive that is literally bursting at the seams. How much music are we talking? “Probably hundreds of tracks,” Eric says [05:41]. 2026: The Year of the Studio

While he’s been “jetting everywhere” lately (and fun fact: he actually enjoys flying now to disconnect and work on music [04:41]), he is officially slowing down on the touring to pick up the studio time this year [19:27].

The goal? To finally finish and release the music we’ve been begging for.

• New Music: He confirmed “a lot of new music” is coming this year across all of his aliases [10:18].
• The Goal: He wants to wake up at the end of the year knowing he has “six new records out” and feels he “owes it to the fans” who have been patient during the release gap [30:44].

The “Call On Me” Moment

Of course, they had to touch on the viral moment in Texas where Eric played “Call On Me” for the first time in 20 years. Eric explained that he spent two decades “re-educating” fans on his darker, progressive sound so he wouldn’t be defined by one pop hit [24:04]. Now that we all know what he’s about, he felt it was safe to have a little nostalgic fun—and he didn’t rule out playing it again [24:40]. We are officially manifesting this as the closing track for the Resistance Megastructure in a few weeks!

The Verdict

Inclement Weather

The weather forecast started rough, with pending thunderstorms and scattered rain. Nonetheless, the festival continued operations for a few hours. However, the thunderstorms forced operations to be suspended. Then, the festival issued an evacuation order, guiding attendees to exit the festival grounds and seek immediate shelter. The situation continued to worsen. Another social media post by the official Bonnaroo account expressed that operations would be delayed for several hours.

As festival goers remained inside their vehicles or sheltered in their campsites, the festival continued reporting massive storms with few clear pockets. However, the event remained closed. As people’s concerns continued, Bonnaroo continued alerting the public about weather conditions. They recommended fans remain calm and positive, and interact with their neighbors on site.

Nevertheless, the inevitable took place. In the latest update, Bonnaroo announced that the remaining days of the festival are cancelled. The festival will work on evacuating the campsites that are struggling the most with the weather. They also requested that the other campers stay patient. They invited them to spend the night if their campsites weren’t affected. This would allow them to leave in the morning. Vendors, health and safety infrastructures will offer their services. Campers will spend one more night before clearing out the festival site.

The Food Paradise was a culinary journey through NYC’s diverse food landscape, featuring top-tier food trucks and local vendors serving everything from savory halal street food to gourmet vegan delights. The curated selection of craft beers, cocktails, and refreshing beverages kept everyone hydrated and in high spirits. Many of the most iconic feed options in New York City was available at the festival. Some of the most notable names include Walter’s Hot Dogs, Roberta’s Pizza, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, and many others. When it comes to Gov Ball, it’s always advised to attend on an empty stomach so that you can experiment and try the various food options.

Interactive Art Installations were scattered throughout the venue, transforming the park into a dynamic, Instagram-worthy playground. These creative spaces, often inspired by New York’s artistic spirit, offered perfect photo opportunities and chill zones for festival-goers to relax and recharge between sets. Activations from sponsors like Verizon, Kiehl’s, Pacsun, and others added layers of entertainment and engagement, offering unique experiences like mini-golf, photo booths, and exclusive giveaways.

Headliners and Key Performances:

Olivia Rodrigo, the Saturday headliner, drew easily the biggest crowd of the weekend with her raw talent. Olivia Rodrigo’s performance was a masterclass in songwriting and vocal range, proving her status beyond a teen pop idol. Her performance included a buoyant duet of “Burning Down the House” with David Byrne, which delighted and, at times, confused parts of the audience. She played all of her biggest hits and even closed out the set with an encore that was unforgettable.
Tyler, The Creator, headlining Friday, acknowledged being on the backend of his “Chromakopia” tour” offering a masterclass of stage presence. His set was a thrill of adrenaline, getting crowds pumped up with his bold rap vocals. The artist also had his own GOLF merch booth located inside the festival grounds where fans swarmed to grab exclusive merch.
Hozier, closing the festival on Sunday, captivated with 90 minutes of worshipful folk-rock. Although he was sick from a cold, he still put on a phenomenal performance playing out his extensive discography of hits. My personal favorite had to ‘Take Me to Church’. His stage production was big highlight with screens that would come up and down and stunning display of LED lights. He also performed a few songs in the middle of the pit creating a more intimate ambiance for those in attendance.

Other performance highlights:

Benson Boone emerged as a standout, appealing to an audience similar to Rodrigo’s with his frequent backflips and strong vocals. Conan Gray presented a theatrical and earnest set, notably featuring a sailor theme. He performed all his biggest hits and really set the tone for the main event on Saturday which of course was Olivia’s closing set. Tyla gave the first live performance of “Bliss” on Friday, captivating the audience with her graceful dancing and also closed off the performance with her breakout single ‘Water’. Mk.gee initiated the weekend with a “smoky, banter-less, virtuosic set” that resonated strongly with attendees. Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Young Miko delivered one of Saturday’s most energetic sets, showcasing her lyrical prowess and Puerto Rican pride. British chanteuse Raye elevated the atmosphere with her powerful vocals. Ghanaian-American singer Amaarae performed with explicit instructions for her audience to mosh. On the electronic music front, Berlioz put on quite a performance on Sunday and threw down some beats for a packed crowd on The Grove stage.

Final Thoughts

Governors Ball 2025 delivered on its promise of an unforgettable experience. It was a dynamic fusion of music, art, food, and the undeniable energy of New York City. The crowd was a vibrant mix of ages and backgrounds, united by their shared love for music. There was a palpable sense of community, with attendees dancing in the grass, exchanging stories, and making new connections. Despite the rain and gloomy weather, the spirits of those in attendance still remained high. Whether you were a seasoned festival-goer or a first-timer, this year’s event left a lasting impression, cementing its status as a world-class celebration of music and culture. EDM Acts on “F1 The Movie” Soundtrack

The International EDM artists featured on the album are adding their legacy to film, sprinkling depth and intrigue to the movie starring Brad Pitt. The first name on the poster is none other than the Aussie Tech-House extraordinaire Dom Dolla. This is the artist’s first soundtrack feature, which includes vocals from singer Nathan Nicholson. We have heard Nicholson’s enchanting vocals in songs by Sultan + Shepard, VisionV, Anyma, and more.

Our next artist is the British Solid Grooves co-founder PAWSA. The ‘Money Talks’ producer will surely provide us with a sultry and sexy track that will have those cars racing fast. In addition, EDM legend Tiësto brings his signature sound to the soundtrack as well. The Dutch progressive producer adds Formula 1 to his list of movie soundtracks. He provided tracks for movies like “Hotel Transylvania 3” and another car racing movie, “Grand Turismo”. Fun fact about his track is that it will be a collaboration with rapper Sexy Redd.

Our final electronic artist that will grace the soundtrack album is non other than Korean House goddess Peggy Gou. The Gudu Records lead is known for her richly melodic, timeless club anthems.

The Music

Coachella is a mainstream and underground hybrid. It brings out the biggest names in the industry, as well as up-and-coming artists. Furthermore, this year’s lineup was fantastic and delivered major experiences from stage to stage. Of course, the headliners like Lady Gaga and Charli XCX gave us some of the best moments, but other stages had energy, which could be felt in the air.

Coachella is a superstar when it comes to surprises. Artists will bring major collaborations to the stage. This year, the dark princess of pop Lady Gaga took her performance to new heights with Gesaffelstein to perform their song Killah. Charli XCX brought out Troye Sivan, Billie Eilish, and Lorde during her Bratchella set. Moreover, Megan Thee Stallion brought Queen Latifah, Victoria Monet, and Ciara.

EDM reigned supreme this year with so many twists and turns that my ankles are sprained at this moment. Yuma, Sahara, and the DoLab brought their A game with electric and fun performances all weekend. House, Techno, and Bass had the most support out of the other EDM genres. Highlights included Sara Landry’s Eternalism Debut, and her Blood Oath surprise appearance at the DoLab alongside Indira Paganotto and Amelie Lens. Their set was accompanied by a drum and bass/jungle b2b2b2b2b2b with Jenna Shaw, Coco & Breeze, Mary Droppinz, VNSSA, J. Worra and Bad Girl Bailey.

Earlier sets had incredible attendance, such as PARISI, Marsh, Boris Brejcha, and Layla Benitez b2b Henri Bergmann. Horsegiirl, DJ Gigola, VTSS Klangkuenstler, salute, and Mind Against b2b Massano offered amazing auditory journeys as well.

The Production at Coachella

Coachella has a real budget for production. Visuals, pyrotechnics, lightshows, and stage design all work all weekend to provide magical adventures throughout the weekend. From props and dancers to live and electronic instruments, each artist can make their Coachella sets, and some of their debuts, a one-of-a-kind performance. Some indoor stages had air conditioning, which helped under the desert heat. The event also has tons of separate activities and side-quests one can enjoy across the venue. Tons of brands have their own booths and activation centers, such as Heineken, White Claw, and Red Bull.

We stopped by the End Overdose booth to speak with AJ Banuelos (Director of Community Engagement) to discuss the growth and impact the non-profit has had on EDM since its foundation. They have partnered with promoters like AEG and Insomniac for their flagship festivals, have collaborated with names ranging from Limp Bizkit’s Wes Borland to Illenium on social media campaigns through Instagram (105k followers) and TikTok (331k followers), and have trained over half a million people nationwide. Their booth teaches festival goers how to recognize signs of an opioid overdose and how to administer Narcan, as well as how to do rescue breaths, and how to delegate tasks until medical personnel arrive on the scene.

Red Bull®Mirage

The Red Bull®Mirage offered an unparalleled hospitality experience and seamlessly blended exclusive access, unique programming, and the exciting pre-launch of the highly anticipated Red Bull Summer Edition White Peach. Red Bull® brought a 20,000 square-foot structure, located directly across from the Quasar Stage. As the festival’s exclusive energy drink, Red Bull® provided attendees with the wiiings to fully immerse themselves in the music and atmosphere.

The space featured distinct experiences across its multiple levels, providing guests with spaces to recharge, socialize, and find inspiration. General admission festival goers gathered in the dedicated GA areas to enjoy access to specialty drinks including the Red Bull Summer Edition slushies, pop-up DJ sets by Joaqu.n of Pangea Sound, Tinx and Bambii, and shade with cooling misters. Level 1 offered a Nobu Omakase experience paired with a curated Red Bull cocktail menu, available to festival goers by reservation only. 

Level 2 provided a thoughtfully curated space that served as the ideal backdrop for a Red Bull Mirage Happy Hour and pop up sets by DJ PeeWee (a.k.a. Anderson .Paak) and Hudson Mohawke, bringing together tastemakers, creators, and media. Level 3 served as an invite-only retreat for artists and celebrities, offering a private space with stunning views of the Quasar Stage. Notably, Cardi B arrived with her friends and enjoyed the third floor, complete with drinks and Nobu.

Logistics

Now we will get a little serious because, as much as we had an amazing time at Coachella, we struggled a little bit with security and logistics at the festival. It felt like the event was understaffed and underprepared for the massive influx of cars and people going in early. Chris Lake’s performance on the campsite during day 0, which was a historical moment, was overshadowed by the thousands of cars that were in line for 6+ hours to make it into the event to set their campsites.

Security had no idea how to direct traffic, and it ended in massive traffic where it felt like every man was for themselves. We hope that the event takes traffic more seriously, as it kept people from making it to their campsites at a decent time.

The Vibes at Coachella

It’s always tricky to measure the vibes at an event that is heavily attended by a mainstream crowd, tons of celebrities, and ravers who are more EDM savvy. However, most stages had amazing crowd energy. The Coachella mainstage did have the busiest sets mostly, but for plenty sets there was enough room to dance and enjoy yourself.

As we do everything again this weekend, we can’t wait to explore new sets we missed the first time, as well as reliving some of the sets that had our jaws drop to the ground.
