Luckily, an A.I. has been programmed to judge your music taste. ‘How Bad is Your Spotify’ was created by The Pudding, a digital publication. The A.I. was trained by the ‘two million indicators of objectively good music’ and therefore an expert on determining ‘good’ music. These indicators includes Pitchfork reviews, record store recommendations, subreddits, and more.

Since the A.I. has no feelings, it’s brutally honest about how bad your music taste truly is by analyzing your listening history on Spotify. At the end, it roasts your music taste with metaphors that will hurt your feelings and breaks down your listening habits. It’s like your Spotify Wrapped but a meaner step-parent.

If you have thick enough skin and would like to find out just how terrible your music taste is, you can find the A.I. here. In some weird and sadistic way, this made 2020 a little better. Since it brought a little extra bit of joy and fun to these uncertain times.

The venue will be the first to trial this system, “designed to eliminate as much as 99% of airborne pathogens, including Coronavirus.” This announcement is huge, and certainly serves as a beacon of hope for venues, artists, and fans alike.

Pathogen Reduction System (PRS)

So what exactly is this system, and how does it work? The Pathogen Reduction System (PRS) is a collaborative development by engineers, scientists, and medical experts. Generally speaking, this technology is similar to the technology in water treatment plants. The PRS in particular will clean indoor air with UVC light “to safely inactivate 99.99% of dangerous airborne pathogens such as COVID-19, MRSA, measles, TB and the common flu virus.” This trial is backed by the Music Venue Trust. This is a group offering support and resources for Grassroots Music Venues who are struggling at the moment. Venues in the UK has either been closed or operating with very strict social distancing measures.

This development is huge, and will likely serve as inspiration for further developments of this sort moving forward. 100 Club owner Jeff Horton expressed the following in a press release:

“This is an opportunity to be leading the way in getting grassroots music venues and the entire hospitality industry open again after the dire consequences of COVID-19. We also see this as an opportunity to future-proof the venue should the world be brought to its knees again at some point down the road by another pandemic.”

Scary, but true – we do need to be prepared. If there’s one thing that this year has taught us, it is that life itself and our every day experiences are precious. If the PRS proves to be an effective option, this is a huge breakthrough for music venues around the world. Additionally, this system may find itself in offices, restaurants, etc. With the roll out of the Coronavirus vaccines, and news about developments like the PRS, there finally appears to be some substantial light at the end of the tunnel.

Festival organizer Emily Eavis and her father, Michael, are pleading for government assistance as events struggle to get insurance for next summer. Insurers were hit with claims of hundreds of millions of pounds when events were forced to close earlier this year. They are unable to afford another situation like that and therefore reluctant to provide cancellation coverage for events like Glastonbury.

However, event organizers cannot take on the risk of arranging festivals and other shows without insurance coverage. If forced to cancel, they could potentially lose millions.

Emily states, “The best solution would be for the government to offer direct financial support in the event of Glastonbury, and other events, being forced to cancel once they’re well into the preparations. If the government can share the risk by offering direct financial support, then it gives everyone the opportunity to move forward with the planning in the hope that things will be safe to run in the summer, and in the knowledge that backing is available if we’re simply not in a position to go ahead.”

The situation is dire as it not only impacts Glastonbury, but other events in the U.K. as well.

This release follows ‘VTOPIA‘ which came out with a cinematic video that evokes ancient works of the duo. The album has a strong start with ‘The Gate‘. Hypnotic and soothing arpeggio join mesmeric beats to flow into a minimal and techno breakdown.

Dark and crude tones characterize ‘VTOPIA’ to unfold into ‘Mirrors‘. Mysterious and spiritual cinematic themes oppose the downtempo organic beat for a unique production. However, ‘Letters‘ is probably the most experimental tune for the duo. It discovers the simple vibrations of a piano enriched by an ethereal vocal on top.

In summary, A Magic World is the perfect manifesto of the time we’re living in; everything is in constant evolution. As such, predict what’s coming next is impossible. In other words, we have to adapt and continue to improve ourselves as human beings. It doesn’t matter how and where you start.

To be exact, the industry lost over $30 billion. This figure is from the year-end-report that Pollstar, a concert trade publication, had released recently. In 2020, the live events business was expected to hit a record of $12.2 billion in revenue, but instead incurred $9.7 billion in losses.

The projected loss of $30+ billion includes unreported events, ancillary revenues, including sponsorships, ticketing, concessions, merch, transportation, restaurants, hotels, and other related economic activities.

During these last couple months of 2020, socially distanced shows and drive-in concerts were put on to try to bring back live events. Drive-in shows accounted for 49% of all events that occurred after March 15 and grossed $18 million with 434,418 attendees. Although the efforts were somewhat successful in driving revenue, the figures were still drastically different from pre-COVID statistics.

As the year comes to an end, we can only wish for 2021 to be a better year. However, things are looking up so far. COVID-19 vaccinations are slowly becoming approved for rollout. Hopefully that means that live events can return to normal some time in the new year.

However, it’s reported by attendees that masks weren’t worn and COVID guidelines weren’t enforced. Art With Me’s recap video and tagged posts displays people congregated together without masks on.

Several attendees brought back COVID-19 with them to New York City. A private testing company, Checkmate Health Strategies, stated that over half of its recent positive cases in New York were directly correlated with Art With Me.

“I would say that 60 to 70 percent of my positives in the last couple weeks in New York City have been a direct result of either people coming back from Art With Me — or who have been directly exposed to someone who attended Art With Me,” states founder, Eleonora Walczak.

An administrator at the Hospital de Tulum said that “multiple people” who attended the event were admitted with COVID. With almost all tourists from North America and South American countries.

So perhaps this will serve as a reminder that COVID remains a major threat right now. Everyone should still take safety precautions regardless of which country they’re in. As eager as everyone is for live events to resume and return to normal, it’s still necessary to stay safe and avoid spreading COVID.

The deal aims for the company to keep operating as usual, while reducing its debt – currently sitting at $1.3 billion – by $800 million.

The store also stated that they are going to honor every piece of their business. As Guitar Center files for bankruptcy, they stay true to the task. They are committed to paying every supplier, vendor, and employee involved. They will also keep running their websites, call centers and social media. Orders will be shipped and received normally. All merchandise credit, prepaid lesson, gift card, warranty, deposit, or rental will be honored.

Over the years, Guitar Center has stood as a longstanding resource for musicians and audiophiles, perhaps as one of the most well-known names in the game. This filing for bankruptcy has shown that times change, and it’s not always easy to keep up. Let’s home this will allow them to recover so they can get back on their feet.

“Addicted to a Memory” was the biggest challenge for Zedd and took the longest time to finish

Zedd: I started the song with this patch I found in this synth called “SynthMaster2” (highly recommend it btw!!) and created the first drop quite quickly. However, after building the track further I created this giant build up towards the end and couldn’t quite figure out the perfect “finale” for the song.

It felt like it needed to be melodic and enthusiastic but the key of the song made it quite tricky. The song is in “d flat” and that note, in the sub octave, is very difficult to hear since it really is too low for most speakers. So the key was to distort the sub and layer a higher octave on top of it for the note to be audible properly.

While this is, more or less, a standard way to make your 808 or sub audible, within the mix I made it ended up being incredibly challenging and even required a separate master JUST for that last drop of Addicted of a Memory.

A collaboration with Porter Robinson may be coming down the pipeline

Zedd: I would love that! Porter and I actually recently talked about getting together and working on some music. The pandemic certainly doesn’t make it easier but I’d love to get in a room with them. We “grew up” in this scene together. It would probably be really special.

Skrillex helped Zedd overcome his fear of using mics

Zedd: I was TERRIFIED of using the mic for the first year of my career. For me there was a show I played with Skrillex where he FORCED ME to use the mic. I was on tour with him and it was what he really wanted me to do so I did it. And I realized how much people love when you interact with them. You establish a much more personal connection. Long story short; I’ve been using the mic every show since and am very thankful Skrillex made me do this 😉

Zedd is a big gamer

Zedd: A lot of people don’t know this but I actually used to play in a Counter Strike team in Germany back in the day. I have been obsessed with gaming since I was very little. Other than music it is my big passion!

My main game at the moment is VALORANT. I used to play a lot of Overwatch but kind of traded that in for VALORANT. Since the PS5 came out I’ve been really in to Demon’s Souls as well.

Zedd: I don’t usually [like story based games], but THE LAST OF US and especially THE LAST OF US 2 have been 2 of my favorite games of all time.

I played TLOU2 with absolutely 0 expectations and absolutely loved it. I later read how much hate the game got, and I wholeheartedly disagree with it. FOR ME, it was an incredible experience.

Zedd believes that luck is key to success

Zedd: I believe that the external influence into ones achievement are substantially higher than we tend to imagine. While I think that being incredibly good at music can push your “required luck” down a lot, there is always going to be a lot of it needed in order to be successful.

This limited edition vinyl of Avicii’s ‘Levels’ had the #19th spot last September. The vinyl contains 2 tracks, the original mix and a remix by Skrillex. Pink Floyd took the 1st prize while placing a sale out of this world. Pink Floyd and their 1967 The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn LP put hands the prize at $6,500. View the full list here. The single vinyl by Avicii doesn’t quite make the cut for the top 100 but it is really near as the #100 spot was sold for the modest amount of $1,890.02.

Avicii stays in the headlines even after his untimely passing which is why he will never be forgotten. The DJ/producer never ceases to amaze and there is nothing to argue about that. ‘Levels’ is without a doubt one of the greatest and most memorable songs in EDM history. However, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) in a press briefing revealed that that four individuals slipped out of their rooms and met in a common area to eat and rehearse for the show. Although no names were given, Kayzo, Vini Vici, Slander, and Alesso were the only foreign DJs invited to perform.

Authorities became aware of the violation due to a video that was posted on social media. The video showed the DJs gathered together and wearing no masks. As a result, each of them was fined $10,000 NTD (roughly $350 USD) for violating the “one person per room rule.”

They need to each pay $10,000 NTD within seven days of receiving their penalty notice. Otherwise, the case will be handed over to the Administrative Enforcement Agency.
