Menno de Jong Announces Retirement After 20-Year Run

Brittany Provost — Fri, 20 Dec 2019 17:08:17 +0000

This year has been one of the most surreal to date when it comes to artists announcing sudden changes in their musical careers. Most recently, trance legend Menno de Jong revealed he’ll be retiring as a DJ, after a successful 20-year run in the industry. Although this revelation is shocking, fans will still have plenty of time to catch the Dutch producer perform – for the last time, ever! Mark your calendars! On Saturday, September 12, 2020, the final show, Menno Solo – The Finale, will take place. The Netherlands’ Beachclub Fuel will host this highly anticipated event, marking the end of his successful musical journey. Will you be attending?

Ever since Menno de Jong stepped out on the scene, fans have been captivated by his melodic masterpieces and dynamic stage presence. Equally known for his undeniable contribution to the world of trance, the 35-year-old is ready to tackle a new chapter in his life, stating, “Over time it has become clear to me that it is also an enormously taxing lifestyle that leaves limited room for personal growth, health and time with family and friends.” Hanging up his headphones will allow him to focus on these deeply important elements in his life.

Moreover, de Jong is a strong activist when it comes to helping save the planet. Recently, he has touched on his own environmental footprint, specially as a touring DJ. He stated, […] I’m finding it increasingly hard to consolidate my environmental and animal rights beliefs with a profession that involves constantly jetting from one part of the world to another. These topics are something that have always been very close to my heart.”

With this newfound outlook and acceptance of his past triumphs, de Jong will have the opportunity to take a step back from the hussel and bussel related to traveling the globe as a successful artist, and focus on other elements that are dear to him. Before doing so, the ‘Last Light Tonight‘ musician will kick off his farewell tour across the globe. Tickets will go on sale as of January 20, 2020, at 12 p.m. CET here. Keep it locked for more information!

“UP UNTIL MY LAST SHOW I WILL BE DOING MY VERY BEST TO VISIT ALL THE PLACES I HAVE PERFORMED AT IN THE PAST ONE LAST TIME, SO THAT WE CAN HAVE A PROPER GOODBYE, CELEBRATE WITH THE AMAZING MUSIC OF THE PAST TWO DECADES, AND SO THAT I CAN PERSONALLY THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT – I COULDN’T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU AND IT’S BEEN SUCH A GREAT RIDE.”

The label returns with the celebration of the 20th installment of its In Trance We Trust mix compilation by placing it in the trusting hands of not one but three master curators: Menno de Jong, Mike Saint-Jules, and Sneijder. With each mixer bringing forth their unique style, this trance trilogy is a precise representation of the genre’s emotive qualities and adaptability to stand the test of time while remaining true to its core. With names like Aly & Fila, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Arctic Moon, Arnej, and brand new tracks from the three trance stalwarts, In Trance We Trust 20 is a staple for every trance addict’s collection.

Dutch mainstay, Menno de Jong, is back after a short hiatus and kicks off CD1 with fresh material as well as current trance hits. Menno’s collaboration with Adam Ellis entitled “Solicitude”, John Newalls’s “Grand Central”, and the Aly and Fila remix of Luke Bond’s smash hit “On Fire” opens ITWT20 with an evocative selection. Here’s an exclusive EDMT preview of John Newall’s “Grand Central” off of Menno de Jong’s mix.

New York native, Mike Saint-Jules is responsible for hits like “Solarflame” and taking CD2 of ITWT20 into hyper-drive with his mixture of atmospheric melodies and big room breakdowns. From the pitch perfect plucks of “Space Renegade” to the elating peaks of “Lost Highway” by DoubleV, Saint-Jules continues the journey with throttling force. Listen to the EDMT exclusive clip of DoubleV’s “Lost Highway” taken from Saint-Jules’s mix.

Strongly representing Ireland alongside trance stars such as John O’ Callaghan and Bryan Kearney, Sneijder closes out the triple disc compilation with explosive domination. The acid waves of “Next Level” with Bryan Kearney and recent releases by Sneijder himself such as “Remember Me” completes the In Trance We Trust package, and the winning combo of tech trance and uplifting brings the trance adventure to a proper close.

There has been such an influx of top notch trance releases lately that “Creatures Of The Night” could not be left to fall by the wayside. The release package is massive, featuring the Original Mix from Menno De Jong as well as remixes from Adam Ellis, Somna, Jonathan Pitch and Chris Porter. Menno De Jong is a Dutch trance producer with a substantial amount of experience under his belt. His latest effort “Creatures Of The Night” is an insanely euphoric cut with chillingly haunting vocals per Noire Lee.

The original mix brings back tones of years gone by with muted synth usages smattered throughout the absolute banging bass and soaring melodic layers in a major key. Was that a flash of DJ Encore? Adam Ellis’ envisioning is a driving, upper BPM truly tranced out track in a minor, edgier chord, complete with piano accompaniment, driving pads, and powerful riffs. Somna’s effort shows what trance has to offer at the lower BPM scales, which is a more chilled out and beyond haunting atmosphere populated by the crystal clear twinkling of Noire’s pipes against the warm vibrations of Somna’s chosen vox representations with a steady main room bass kick. Jonathan Pitch pitches in a progressive house take on the track, which is extremely well done and is so smooth it’s basically slippery. Lastly, Chirs Porter kicks in another wickedly thumping trance take, one knocks the grittiness up a notch which adding some subtle breaks and some more heavy-footed bass. Which version is your favorite?
