It’s always great to discover new people making the rounds in the Dance industry. And this time, if you dig Organic and Progressive House, you’ll like this: three rising artists of the corner of the sonic world, Doriaan, Diego Hernan, and Milton Bo, have just released their latest single, ‘Green‘ on Jerry Chou’s renowned Droid9 Recordings.

Although far from being just a single, the release comes packed with not one, not two, not three, but five versions of the track. Having passed the stems on to four different producers, Kris Dur, Manu Pavez, Kalima, and EddyThron pres. Aloft, the Green EP is a comprehensive example of what different minds can do with the same base ingredients.

“Milton and I spent an afternoon at my place in Villa Gesell in 2024“, Diego Hernan tells us. “We made a bunch of tracks, and ‘Green’ was one of them“. He says later on they bounced the rough song to Doriaan who gave it new life, and then they all brought in remixers who are all good friends of theirs.

‘Green’ is the second track the three artists work on together, following their 2024 release ‘Enjoy’, signed by Paul Thomas’ UV imprint (former FSOE UV), and supported by Nick Warren and Hernan Cattaneo. This song doesn’t hold back, however, since Manu Pavez’s remix was already spun by the iconic DJ duo some months ago.

Energetic, hypnotic and atmospheric, the original ‘Green’ contains gated pads, a narrated vocal, and a powerful main lead when the drop finally hits. Many of these elements you’ll hear time and time again throughout the remixes that follow the original release, which explore the genres of Organic, Progressive, House, and even some Afro-Progressive high-energy hybrid.

The Tracks

Through and through, Four Tet truly creates a sublime combination balanced between awe-inspiring melodies and moving rhythms. The spirit of that idea is emphasized on the opening track ‘School‘, touched by chiming resonant synths. Following this, ‘Baby’ drives percussion forward until leaping into the hypnotizing ambient ‘Harpsichord‘. ‘Teenage Birdsong’ then pops with its serene blossoming tones, truly being a memorable point on the album which doesn’t escape attention.

From there on, ‘Romantics‘ tugs on whistling synths and shiny plucked-out notes as it euphorically builds toward ‘Love Salad‘. Being the longest cut on the album, it features a bit of everything we’ve been introduced to thus far, opening the door for a new chapter via ‘Insect Near Piha Beach‘. Through it, Kieran makes newer sounds and scales more prominent delving into the shorter pieces, ‘Hi Hello‘ and ‘ISTM‘.

Moving further, ‘Something In The Sadness‘ uses twinkled and starry bright synths notes, offsetting a hint of malaise. This goes into ‘1993 Band Practice‘, moving in the direction of ‘Green‘ which accentuates natural sounds bringing harmony to the composition. ‘Bubbles at Overlook 25th March 2019‘ pushes natural ambiance bringing on the soothing trance of ‘4T Recordings’. Nearing the end, ‘This Is For You‘ distantly rings and envelopes the ears in warm, comforting echoes. Concluding, ‘Mama Teaches Sanskrit‘ beguiles and wraps up the album in a blanket of tender affection.

Impressions

Looking at the album and individual track titles, there is a very vivid image being painted. Looking back, it had moments which felt innocent, nostalgic, euphoric, troubled, and sometimes curious. Natural sounds reverberating throughout the album gave it a surreal and grounded touch. The diversity and well-rounded pallet evidently brought about an album which feels distinct.

Throughout his musical history, Four Tet has maintained an unmistakable aesthetic that is true to him. With ‘Sixteen Oceans’, he shows a strong evolution in that sound, creating a sincerely heart-warming, reflective body of work. All in all, the tracks seem to live in the same world, but preserve a uniquely powerful color and feeling. This facilitates a worthwhile experience no matter the mood, whether as a body or by proxy of picking singular tracks.

Yotto – Walls (Joris Voorn Remix)

Dutch DJ and producer Joris Voorn makes his Anjunadeep debut with his remix of ‘Walls’ from Yotto‘s debut album, Hyperfall. The seven-minute mix is a beautiful spin on the progressive house track. Both tracks are not vastly different in tone, however Voorn’s rendition adds a bit more texture.

He uses his mastery of techno to juxtapose the dreamy quality of the original melody. On its own, Yotto’s mix is an empowering blend of perseverance and elation, and when you add Voorn, you are able to experience the third dimension of this story. It will make you feel like you’ve accomplished something at the end.

The two go way back. Last year, Yotto released his Chemicals / Second Life EP on Voorn’s label Green. When asked why he chose Joris Voorn to remix his music, Yotto said:

“I’ve always been a huge fan of [Joris Voorn] productions and he’s a great DJ. For this remix, however, I just asked him because he’s also pretty good at skateboarding. He did a great job bringing his own unique touch to the original.“

Marc Houle – Borrowed Gear (Joris Voorn Remix)

There’s not much Joris Voorn hasn’t accomplished in his nearly 20 year music career. From being a label boss on two well respected labels, Green and Rejected, to mixing approximately 100 tracks into a double CD on his Balance014 compilation (with Richie Hawtin enlisted for help as well), his legacy will stand the test of time.

Fresh off his first album release in seven years with Nobody Knows, a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix to boot, and a beautifully addictive remix of Röyksopp’s ‘I Had This Thing’, Joris continues his hot streak with his rework of the classic track ‘Borrowed Gear‘ off Marc Houles’ 2004 double LP Restore. Houle has commissioned a remix album of Restore, aptly named Restored, with some of the game’s heaviest hitters like, M.A.N.D.Y., Danny Daze and Mr. Voorn to bring the long player up to date; modernizing it for the current age of electronic music.

Currently, Polish is on the “Pushing Through the Pavement: A Permaculture Action Tour”, which, in conjunction with shows across America, is a platform where permaculture educators and community organizers encourage and educate concert goers towards a regenerative and sustainable lifestyle. The Polish Ambassador takes the concept of activism awareness to a new level by using his notoriety as a musician to encourage fans to participate in “impact days” that take place after a concert and are Polish led immersion events that are focused on areas such as food and environmental sustainability, natural building, water conservation etc.

In a note from David Sugalski, aka The Polish Ambassador, he dedicated his fall tour to these concepts of environmental activism and progressive thought saying that: “We’ll be teaching permaculture at shows through spoken word, video, and resources for people to take home; bringing local groups and organizations out to put a focus on the change they’re making in each city; and hosting impact days to build community projects. Pushing Through the Pavement is taking action to transform the places where we live.”
