Have a listen to the banger of a tune we recently came across.

Epic music and Electro House are not a very common combination. If you factor in the year and you realise the golden days of Electro House are nearly ten years behind (what?!), the chance of finding a tune like this is much rarer. But, dive deep into the SoundCloud waters, and you might find wonders. That’s precisely what we’re looking to share with you today. Meet ZIN.

ZIN

Not much is known about the mind behind ZIN, but we do know this is an underground force coming from North Carolina. Covered in mystery, the artist has made a name for themselves by being a boundary pusher, combining sounds old and new and venturing down exciting, new hybrids.

Carefully hiding his human self under a mask, ZIN aims to hook listeners with their music, as much as their looks. Electro House, Bass House, and Complextro, are all trademarks of his signature sound. Those genres are the foundation of their tracks, leaving, of course, room for experiments. The first track of a new phase of the artist is this flip of ‘MALFUNKT‘, by 1788-L and Deathpact.

“As a fellow anonymous producer, [1788-L and Deathpact] have been so influential to the ZIN project.”

1788-L & Deathpact – MALFUNKT (ZIN Flip)

Dark, horror-like, and tension-inducing. That’s how the song kicks off. Classical pianos will set the dark mood for what’s to come. Get ready for aggressive textures making their way through, and before you even process it, the first drop comes in full force. And I mean it. Full Electro-House-reminiscing, but even darker, sort of like a 2013 Monstercat release if it didn’t have the “fun” aspect over it. This track is dark. It’s powerful. The tune is somewhat evil, in a good way, if that makes sense.

After that drop, take a breath and get ready for another round of grittiness. The melody and the chords set the scene for a drop that is jaw-dropping. With an approach that is closer to Dubstep, yet keeping the evil and melodic elements of before, the beat truly brings a special feeling to your skin.

If 2017 was good for anything, it was good for music. All year long, we were treated to new tracks, shows, and albums, from the most talented producers. However, one of the best things to happen this year was A-Trak showing off his live mixing skills from his home studio all year long.

As a final treat to fans, A-Trak shared a short clip of Porter Robinson and Madeon’s hit, “Shelter”, via Facebook. The track is chopped and scratched at an upbeat pace, giving it a little more of a vibrant rhythm. Although it’s nothing too complex, you can see how much fun he has with it. Check out his mixing skills below:

Can you imagine checking your mailbox one day to find a USB drive full of your favorite artist’s unreleased music, directly sent by them? Well that is exactly what Pretty Lights did when he mailed out numerous wooden, custom-engraved USB drives filled with flips from live Pretty Lights sets at Telluride, Okeechobee, and Euphoria to several of his most devoted and loyal fans.

Also included in the care package were posters revealing several new tour dates, including his return to Colorado, his home state. He refers to this as a “social experiment” in which he seems to want his zealous fans to spread the message of his return, much like loyal disciples would spread the return of something wonderful. The back of posters include a message, some of it which reads:

“As one of our most devoted fans, we are choosing you to not only spread this music organically far and wide, but to also share the message that we will be returning to Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO on August 11-12 for the 9th consecutive year.”

The devout fans quickly took to social media to spread the news. The posters sent so far confirm Pretty Lights for another return to Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO on August 11-12, 2017, and Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island in Chicago, IL on August 18th-19, 2017.

Be sure to keep a close eye on your mailbox, because you may be one of the select few to receive a poster announcing another one of his upcoming shows. You can view the fan photos of Pretty Lights’ cleverly packaged announcements below.

Alina Baraz & Galimatias – Fantasy (Felix Jaehn Remix)

When Robin Schulz delivered his stunning indie-electronic remix of ‘Waves’, he shined a spotlight on a growing segment of artists that attempted to bring elements of electronic music into indie dance. Since then, this growing segment of artists has become a full blown movement in dance music, with talented artists like Felix Jaehn spearheading the charge. Tracks like Jaehn’s remix of ‘Cheerleader’ by OMI dominated the charts in over 18 countries, cementing the German house maestro’s status as an international talent who is here to stay. Jaehn’s latest offering is a remix of Alina Baraz and Galimatias’ hit, ‘Fantasy’, just in time for summer.

Like many of his other remixes, Jaehn takes ‘Fantasy’ and completely flips it on its head, speeding up the track and filling it with scintillating xylophone strikes, brilliant piano progressions, and subtle synth stabs. Baraz’s elegant vocals still finds their way into a lead role that is perfectly complemented by the lighthearted, playful air surrounding the track. Jaehn’s remix of ‘Fantasy’ is out now via Ultra Music, so get your copy here!

Stwo – Eden (Pham Flip)

Pham has a certain knack for reworking tunes and leaving them completely free of genres restrictions. A unique blend of funky deep bass lines, grooving hip-hop influences, and blasting synth lines work in harmony to create his signature sound, which is applicable for almost any occasion.

His latest release comes in the form a flip of Stwo’s ‘Eden‘, and its been reworked it into a dynamic and complex hip-hop track. Centered around banging percussions, and a chopped up vocal hook, the track builds its energy by evolving these central elements. The breaks slow down this energy, but ominous chord stabs constantly pluck away to maintain some tension. When the tune finally climaxes at the chorus, the filters on the chords open up to create a blaring synth swing that is complimented by a gliding synth that sits far back in the mix.

Usher – Yeah (Pat Lok Rework)

Birthdays are pretty awesome. This is something we all know to be true, because who doesn’t like a day dedicated to themselves, that’s filled with family, friends, cake n’ sweets, and most importantly: gifts. Pat Lok, a Vancouver based producer who’s received some big ups from The Magician, RAC and Goldroom, recently had his birthday and flipped the script a bit on his special day by giving the world nice lil’ something. To show some love for his fan-base, he’s released a free flip of Usher’s iconic club hit, ‘Yeah’.

Tampering with the soulful voice that has carried Usher to super stardom is risky business. And we dig it when a producer takes some risks. Pat Lok’s remix is a true flip, with pitch bent vocals, a completely revamped structure, and some bummpin’ new sounds. The punchy bass would give Mike Tyson a run for his money, and the soaring organ chords paired with all the chimes and warm synths are darn near ethereal. Juxtaposing all this airy goodness with untouched Luda vocals some future bass aggression makes this one dynamic package.

Genre: Garage House | Label: N/A | Release Date: 24 Aug, 2013

Disclosure’s debut album Settle has undoubtedly inspired a large number of remixes, but this one definitely stands out from the crowd. Born in Los Angeles and currently making beats in San Diego, Esta takes Disclosure’s single, “Latch”, and makes it his own. “‘[The remix] was inspired by a broken heart, lol. I made it after a relationship ended and let my emotions run free through that track” says ESTA. The up and coming producer minimally samples the original, and effectively constructs his own version of the track. Of course, it’s got a bit of a hip-hop flavor to it, which is something that ESTA. is known for. Better add this one to your ever-growing list of Disclosure’s remixes and expect many more projects and collaborations from ESTA.
