The leaders in charge of musicalising the southern cities are: Progressive House titan Sasha, with a decades-spanning career and legendary DJ sets and compilations, Marsh, the young producer who’s been taking the world by storm since joining the label in 2019, 16BL, the iconic duo comprised of Ariaan Olieroock and Peter Kriek, contributors to Anjunadeep for close to 20 years, and UK duo Eli & Fur, whose melodic house anthems have become festival staples worldwide.

The label contingent also features Patrice Bäumel, Durante, Maty Owl, and Ezequiel Arias, to further amplify the Deep experience all throughout the two weekends that Anjunadeep will spend in South America. And for local support, the tour features an array of aritsts: Art Attack b2b Damaray in Peru, B.I.R.DD and Franco Roscio b2b Nacho Martinez in Argentina, Matías Bravo b2b Mishelle Hecht in Chile, and the label’s very own Rigooni in Brazil.

Four Cities, Four Experiences

The tour will make stops in Brazil (Varanda Estaiada in Sao Paulo), Argentina (Puesto del Indio in Mendoza), Peru (Club Cultural Lima in Lima), and Chile (Parque Padre Hurtado in Santiago). Of the heavyweights, Sasha and Marsh will go back-to-back during the first weekend, accompanied by Eli & Fur, while weekend two will be led by 16BL and Patrice Bäumel. Maty Owl, the label’s latest prodigy, will be present throughout the tour, as will Durante. Ezequiel Arias will only miss Mendoza, having a role in the other three parties.

On Friday, August 22nd, a cozy yet magnificent cafe on San Francisco’s Treasure Island called “Aracely Cafe” hosted an exclusive ‘Dreams at Dusk’ party that had the phenomenal British melodic house duo, Eli & Fur, as the headliners. Eli & Fur, who are fantastic contributors to the house and techno genres as a whole, performed a top-notch set that ensured the fans will have chill vibes that resonated through the sunset that illuminated over the island. As nighttime arrived and the moon became present, Eli & Fur continued their great set that still hooked the crowd at Aracely Cafe at the intimate stage area.

The cafe has been around for the past decade and has gained a solid reputation as an establishment that served up fantastic drinks that complement the exquisite food that patrons really enjoy while taking in the feel-good atmosphere of the island. In short detail, this is what made Aracely Cafe to become a high-quality venue for Eli & Fur to play their set at. Lightning in a Bottle

The Buena Vista Aquatic Recreational Area has been the host to LIB in the last few years, and it still shines bright. The festival grounds and campsites surround the lake nearby, which is open to the public. Moreover, there are massive campsites which allow car-camping and RV camping. There are glamping options for attendees as well. As it is an all-ages event, the venue offers multiple amenities for adults and children alike. This includes a kids-only section.

The Vibes

As much as the weather posed a challenge to festivalgoers, including high temperatures, humidity, dust, and wind, attendees shared their love for the music and arts. They endured despite the harsh climate. From respectful and kind gestures to sexy and fun dance moves, everyone sparked electricity with every step. Security and festival staff were within the same vibrations as us. They provided pleasant, joyful, and respectful interactions throughout the 5 days. We definitely felt safe and in good hands the entire time.

The Music

Where do we start? This was definitely as much of a diverse lineup as Coachella, but in a much more intimate setting. Lightning in a Bottle brings the A-game out of artists, from the mainstream to the underground. Each set felt special and unique to the event. Each set had its own breath of LIB into it, which made the collective experience even more transcendental.

Musical guests echoed across multiple stages, influencing our ears with tasteful and ethereal soundscapes. Keeping the tradition alive, The Junkyard and The Stacks stages gave us surprise after surprise guests. This included ZHU: BLKLZT, Monolink’s sunset set, Dimond Saints and John Summit b2b Subtronics.

Major highlights include Four Tet, Jamie XX, Sultan + Shepard, Eli & Fur, Azzecca, Underworld, Sama AbdulHadi, John Summit, and Francis Mercier.

The charm of the festival was truly on wheels. Multiple art cars drove across the festival grounds all week. They showcased new and fresh talent consistently into the sunrise. From the banana to the monster and the bug, we followed the art cars left and right. We enjoyed their auditory blessings.

A major highlight of the weekend was the A Club called Rhonda Takeover. The crossroads stage was in full bloom alongside a stacked lineup of LGBTQ+ legends and nonstop dancing. Saturday night’s closing sets by Parris Goebbel and Biianco sealed the deal, with heavy basslines and heart-racing dancing. We definitely achieved a collective dancefloor euphoria in there.

The Culture

Lightning in a Bottle proved to be more than a music and arts festival. The experience extends to cultural exchanges and multiple workshops. These aimed to help and guide us even after we left the grounds. From morning Yoga to finance and cooking workshops, attendees used up the daytime to learn. They enriched themselves with wisdom from international guests. My favorite non-musical experience of the weekend was the Fire Ceremony during the sunset.

The organizers invited elders from the Mayan tribe. Elders from multiple tribes across the globe joined to showcase a ritual that connected us as a community. Whether we live by different rules, gods, or religions, the ritual aimed to find a positive and serene outlook. It elevated our experience.

All in all, Lightning in a Bottle brought us home, and connected all of us through music, arts, and love.

But First, Happy Hour!

Getting to the venue early paid off extremely well. From VR games, to stunning exhibits, including Meow Wolf, Friday was up to a good start. But then, the fun began, as Luttrell presented us with an amazing surprise 2-hour happy hour set. The pre-show was held right at the entrance of AREA15 and it was free to the public. This warm-up led to what would be a magical night in the A-Lot space of the venue.

Now, The Open Air

The A-Lot is one of the 3 spaces in AREA15 that hosts incredible events. Other artists that have graced this stage in the last year include Charlotte de Witte, Dombresky, Ganja White Night, and Boris Brejcha. This time, Anjunadeep brought their Deep House wizards to charm the summer winds in the atmosphere. The lineup included Nicky Elizabeth, Durante, Joseph Ray, Eli & Fur, and a special Dosem b2b Luttrell set. The Anjuna family came strong with its vibes, overcoming the hot temperatures. The lot kept cool with massive fans that also sprayed refreshing mist into the attendees. Production-wise we enjoyed beautiful visuals and quality lighting that resonated with the soulful melodies we heard into the late night. The production was completed with some chill areas, a set-up swing and Anjuna merch. Sadly, due to the worldwide glitch in the matrix that affected a lot of software, Marsh couldn’t make it to Vegas for his set. However, each act delivered a stunning, emotional time that brought smiles to each member of the audience.

In a world that feels like it going 190 miles an hour, it was nice to have a night that slowed it down so we could appreciate the night, with each other, with great music. We can’t wait to go back to AREA15 and enjoy some quality time. As for the label itself, they’re continuing with more Open Air shows for the rest of the year. Some cities include London, Budapest, Seattle, and Mexico City.
