The year is getting off to a fast start with announcements of new music, albums, and tours popping off constantly. In particular, artists in the bass music community are overwhelmingly seizing the limelight with news of fresh sounds. Accordingly, Twitter fingers are going into overdrive this morning following Griz & Dillon Francis teasing a collaboration implication. Undoubtedly, this would be a killer collaboration that bassheads would love to hear. After Griz posts to his feed about a new joint for Dillon, the retweets start pouring in.

As you can see, the convo abruptly ends there since Francis likely slides into Griz’s DMs per his post. So, speculation and hearsay are probably all we’ll get about this collaboration for the time being. Teasing us like this is definitely the move as fans will be on edge until more concrete info becomes available. However, we may not have too long to wait to get the full details.

There may be some obvious reasons why the two are teasing us this morning. Firstly, Griz is dropping into Europe for his Ride Waves Tour which kicks off in Barcelona on February 20th. Meanwhile, Francis will be rocking stages stateside along with Yung Gravy starting shortly after. Their Sugar, Spice, and Everything Ice tour jumps off from Pittsburg on March 23rd. Therefore, that doesn’t leave much time for the two to get together to finalize any new tracks. Although, a lot can be done via virtual means with the current state of today’s music production technology. In any event, chalk one more up for bass music today. For now, heads will be anxiously waiting until more news becomes available. The hits just keep on coming and the artists just keep on teasing. In the end, the year is getting off to a fabulous start.

It’s Friday night. You are out partying with some of your friends and decide to hit up a club. A few hours before, you remember that the DJ “liked” your Instagram photo from four months ago. So you send them a DM – “Hey bro! I saw you are playing at the club tonight! Think you can get me and my seven friends on the Guest List for free entry? We love your music – you f***ing rule!” Sound all too familiar? We’re here to tell you you have been doing it all wrong.

If it does sound familiar, you are a perpetrator of some serious violations when it comes to proper Guest List etiquette. House and techno producer Lee Burridge apparently has had enough of this nonsense. In a long Facebook post, Burridge outlines some crucial tips on Guest List protocol. His hope is to spread the word about the hidden things a serial Guest List requester does not take into consideration when sending that message or DM.

While you can read the full post below, here are a few of the bullet points to consider:

1 Don’t beat around the bush with small talk – get to the point.

Opening up a message with “Hey, how’s it going?” or “What have you been up to?” is annoying. Unless you are a close friend or family member, they know what your are getting at. Simply open up with: “Hi. Would you be kind enough to put me on the guest list for your show tonight? Thanks.” Don’t waste time – you don’t know them, and it comes off as tedious and disingenuous.

2 Don’t tack on 10 extra people if your opening message was just for you to be added. Then – ACTUALLY SHOW UP.

Guest List space is limited. When you make the original request, make sure to include everyone involved. Typically not more than four total people. Then – BE THERE. It costs the club, promoters and DJs money if you don’t show up. “We didn’t make it, we actually caught another party” is a loser move. Managers check back when the night is over to see if you attended.

3 If you are gifted an add to one Guest List, don’t request every single time that DJ is in town. Also, don’t assume you will be added to every Guest List forever.

Be ready to support the venue, workers and DJ teams for their effort by paying your way most of the time. What you have to understand is everyone involved get 1000’s of these request for every show – don’t be a d*** if they do not respond every time. Asking over and over again is tacky and is likely to be ignored.

4 If they say “No,” don’t go asking other people at the club to get on the Guest List. Those people end up asking the DJ team again, and it pisses them off.

If you get the “No,” that means the list is full or they simply can’t accommodate it. Sack up, and buy the ticket if you want to be there. If you try to circumvent by asking others who work for the club, they notice.

5 After attending from a Guest List, SAY THANK YOU.

Simple gestures go a long way. Just because people hold a certain level of fame does not mean they are given everything in life. They have worked their asses off to provide you with a memorable “free” experience. Go out of your way to say thank you, and a card or a bottle of their favorite booze goes a long way.

Don’t be a punk with no manners. Follow these rules and you may find yourself with a higher Guest List success rate than a “flock-texting” approach.

News broke out this week that the dubstep producer has been going back and forth with fans via Instagram direct messages. It’s great to hear the producer is now sober, but we’re reluctant to believe that he will be able to bounce back from this atrocity without a proper apology. What do you think?

DJs and live acts are always pushing the boundaries on the marketing and branding of their brand. These different angles give way to sweet merchandise, interesting live performances, unique artist to fan interactions, and… hotels?

That last one is certainly something we have never seen before, until today.

Kygo announced a partnership with Scandic Ornen Hotel and Bergenfest Festival -the Norway festival that both Kygo and Sam Smith are headlining in June- to premiere a Kygo-themed hotel for the duration of the festival (12th through the 14th of June). No expense will be spared, as the lodgings come complete with everything from a custom Kygo entrance to a decked out party room. There will even be a Kygo video game.

All this is set to compliment the festival perfectly, and prove that this endeavor is way more than just a simple hotel takeover. It’s the real deal. All you need to participate in this concept is stay at the hotel during the festival! Additional lodging information can be found here.

T2 feat. Jodie – Heartbroken (Night Crime Remix)

Up-and-coming duo, Night Crime, put a unique spin on T2’s classic “Heartbroken”. The original track gained prominence overseas back in 2007, thanks to music video featuring popular British athletes. Now, the LA-based twosome had updated the song and given it a decidedly current feel. Jodie’s vocals are smooth and uplifting, contrasted against a throbbing beat that explodes into a heavy deep drop. “Heartbroken” is a promising release from Night Crime, on top of an already impressive library of remixed songs on their SoundCloud, and with support from the likes of Knife Party, Laidback Luke, and DJ Snake, we should expect big things from this pair. Download “Heartbroken” for free on SoundCloud now, and be sure to stayed tuned to EDMTunes for more Night Crime in the future.

The issue here is stemming from Disney’s upcoming film, titled Tomorrowland. As you’ve probably already realized, it’s the same name as ID&T’s Tomorrowland.

“Disney has a trademark registration in the USA for the term Tomorrowland, dating back to 1970. With this registration, it was successfully able to prevent the music festival from calling itself Tomorrowland when it launched in the USA. However, the music festival has the rights to the term in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg and has prevented Disney from using the name in these countries.” said trademark attorney Sharon Daboul in a recent interview with the Belfast Telegraph. “Trademark rights are territorial, which means that rights are limited to the country or territory in which the trademark has been applied for and registered.

Which explains why ID &T was forced to acquire another name for the festival when it was set to expand overseas into the United States. Now however the tables have turned and while Disney does have the trademark for “Tomorrowland” , ID & T owns the trademark in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, allowing the festival to keep its name there. However, with Disney’s upcoming film “ Tomorrowland” set to be released over seas and in the UK, ID & T is in hot pursuit of Disney, forcing them to change the name of the movie to something that has yet to be determined. The movie, starring George Clooney, will be released on May 22^nd. More likely than not, Disney will have to shop around for a new name.

Dillon Francis has been on a tear recently, and Kygo is fresh off his first original release since 2013; Firestone. If you are wondering how these guys had the time to sit down in the studio together to make a new tune after all the work they’ve been doing, you are not alone.

Coming Over slows down the pace for Dillon from his recent songs. It’s very refreshing to hear a softer side of him in his music, especially in collabs such as this. We haven’t heard much from Kygo other than his fantastic remixes, so if his release of original music is going to become a trend, we cannot complain. Clearly the path towards an album is being fleshed out here.  ‘Coming Over’ reportedly features vocals from James Hersey. The two minute live recording seems to be the first leak of this song, and there is no word on a release date. Check out the video below, a recording of Kygo performing at Oslo Spektrum in Norway.

DJ Fresh feat. Ella Eyre – Gravity (Zeds Dead Remix)

It is always a pleasure and an excitement to see a new Zeds Dead remix pop up on our news feed, because no other act can twist anything from funky and anthemic, and turn it into that grimy Zeds Dead sound. Their latest remix comes by a track from DJ Fresh and features the vocals of Ella Eyre, and it’s an understatement to say this take on ‘Gravity’ is pure gold.

The simple intro, consisting of straight forward drum rhythms and a slowly evolving arpeggiator that adds a driving energy into the break. Ella Eyre’s vocals are truly captivating throughout the break, as the beat begins to build back up in the soon-to-be explosive drop. When the drop comes in, Zeds Dead’s signature sound design is on point as the bass stabs away in its raging groove. As ‘Gravity’ slowly evolves throughout its entirety, this simple and aggressive bass line stab is elaborated and played with in mind bending low-end grit to complete yet another perfectly executed Zeds Dead banger.

It is hard to argue that Armin van Buuren belongs anywhere but near the top of every dance enthusiasts rankings list. From uprooting his entire life for a new direction to starting arguably the biggest music labels, Vous Records in Shanghai, to becoming one of China’s most successful foreign DJs, Spencer Tarring has had a thoroughly unique journey within the dance music space. With his recent relocation to the shores of California, Spencer has devoted his skills to the direction of proper house music, and his release of House Music is a proper ode to the genre indeed.

Utilizing a thumping four to the floor backdrop and an old school – yet lightly veiled in the thumping drive of future house- beat that is also tinged with the sound of old school Swedish House Mafia flavors, ‘House Music’ is a delightful dance floor burner that should feel right at home near peak time in anything from underground sets to main stage festivities. The repeating vocal sample savagely attacks the top line with its old school nostalgia and is wonderfully interlaced with the bouncy, sawed up bass line. ‘House Music’ excels at simplicity, and that is one of the stapes of proper house. Check it out below, and stay tuned as Spencer Tarring prepares to release more material stateside.
