The original ‘Short Skirt/Long Jacket’ leaned on trumpet stabs, vibraslap, and McCrea’s dry, spoken-word cadence. ‘Long Jacket’ strips that arrangement down to its most hypnotic parts and rebuilds it around a rolling low end and sharp, percussive groove. Lake and Lorenzo bring the kind of precision-tuned dancefloor sensibility they’ve built individually over years of house releases, while Kenny Beats — known more for his work behind the boards in hip-hop than in dance music — adds a left-field production touch that pushes the track somewhere neither producer would likely land alone.

‘Short Skirt/Long Jacket’ first appeared on Cake’s 2001 album Comfort Eagle, peaking at No. 7 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart and going Platinum in the US. Its wry lyrics and off-kilter groove gave it staying power well beyond its initial run, including a second life as the opening theme for the TV series Chuck. More than two decades later, ‘Long Jacket’ introduces the song to a dance music crowd that likely knows it only in passing, if at all — and industry chatter around the ID has been building for months ahead of the official release.

“Getting Kenny and Chris Lorenzo in the same room was chaos in the best way,” Chris Lake said of the collaboration. “Three totally different brains on one track. Kenny’s coming from a completely different world, Chris and I have that shorthand from years of working together, it just all clicked.“

Chris Lorenzo echoed that sentiment, noting that the project had been on his and Lake’s radar for a while before Kenny Beats brought the original CAKE vocal into the room. “Almost immediately, the idea for this track clicked once Kenny showed us the original vocal from CAKE,” Lorenzo said. “We’ve been playing it in our sets for the better part of a year now, and it’s consistently been one of those records that stands out every time we play it. The reaction has been incredible, and it’s been really cool watching the track evolve and connect with people before it’s even officially been released.“

A Big Year for Chris Lake

The release lands during one of the more prolific stretches of Lake’s career. His 2025 debut album Chemistry, released on his own Black Book Records, landed in the global Top 10 on Spotify and hit No. 1 on the Dance Album charts on both Apple Music and Beatport. Lake closed out that year as Dancing Astronaut’s and SiriusXM’s Artist of the Year and as Beatport’s top-selling artist in his genre. He’s also picked up two GRAMMY nominations along the way and recently delivered an official remix of Taylor Swift’s ‘Opalite’ that reached No. 1 on iTunes.

On the live front, Lake played some of his biggest headline shows to date in 2026, including a three-night run at Under The K Bridge Park in Brooklyn and two sold-out nights at LA State Historic Park, each drawing 20,000 fans. ‘Long Jacket’ adds another unexpected chapter to a catalog that’s increasingly comfortable crossing genre lines. “I wanted to make a track that reflects the state of capitalism and its shortcomings. In what seems like an endless pursuit of paper, it’s easy to lose sight of what really matters, those we love, the experiences we share, and the growth within ourselves.”

If you’ve heard of Steve Aoki, you are well aware that the American producer has built a reputation on theatrical stunts which include throwing massive cakes into the crowd. Although these tasty desserts seem to be an overall crowd pleaser, the ‘Just Hold On‘ musician has shifted his sights to another delicious snacking undertaking: pizza!

The iconic DJ has comes from a strong background in cuisine. His well-known father, Hiroaki Aoki, better known as Rocky Aoki, was a Japanese-born American restaurateur who founded popular Japanese cuisine restaurant chain Benihana.

When one is surrounded by culinary delicacies their entire life, there is no doubt that they develop a true appreciation for the world’s best foods – and what better item is there on the planet than pizza!

Although the EDM superstar has not released much information, it has been reported that he will be opening a new pizza chain called Pizzaoki in California sometime soon.

The official website is still under construction, but we would expect nothing less – his hardworking team is more than likely still crafting the perfect slices!

We do know one thing is for certain, we have mushroom in our hearts for this new project, and there’s nothing cheesy about it!

Steve Aoki is known for having some insanely epic shows. He would even tend to join the crowd for some fun and crowdsurfing on an inflatable raft. One tradition that has really stuck out over the years is Aoki’s infamous cake launching which fans go crazy for.

Cut back to last friday night when Aoki was in Los Angeles for a stop on his Kolony tour at The Shrine. He had various guests there that ranged from his opening act Desiigner, Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello, Jeremy Scott, and his sister Devon Aoki. However, one special guest who happened to be attending that night was none other than Fast & The Furious star Vin Diesel. And he was looking to partake in the action that night.

Seen in the video below, Diesel yells at the crowd, “I want to cake someone tonight!“. And none other than Steve Aoki himself volunteered to do the honors as Diesel launches the cake at him.

Check out the video yourself and check out the awesome cake launch in action!

Fast Company, a leading tech publication, recently sat down with cake-hurling DJ, Steve Aoki, to divulge in his upcoming album, the inception of his cake throwing act and his non-music endeavors.

With its release date slated for today, Neon Future II was finished in conjunction with Steve Aoki’s Neon Future I, acting as the second installment of the album. The difference between the two albums is, “Future I is more like a party, (and) Future II I have a lot more darker, more deeper emotional records”, Aoki says. The album’s name dates back to Aoki’s interest in futurism as a youngster, a theme we commonly see in his sets.

The interview then segues into a unique angle, showing that the well-known DJ knows more than just party music. Soon to be launching an exclusive clothing line in Japan called, Dim Mak Collections, Steve Aoki has already declined offers to expand his new brand to Los Angeles and New York. In search of his next challenge, the Dim Mak frontiersman says “breaking radio but keeping the Aoki spirit” is next on his list.

Be sure to check out the full interview below, as the interviewer is naturally caked by the end of the clip.

While the ceremonial first pitch executed prior to a baseball game doesn’t normally involve anything out of the ordinary, this one was a little bit sweeter than usual. Founder of Dim Mak Records and world famous DJ/producer Steve Aoki took to the mound at the Los Angeles Dodgers home game where he did the honor of throwing the first pitch before their game against the Colorado Rockies. Just days ago, Aoki announced that he is partnering with the City of Los Angeles to put on a ginormous free concert, so it does not come as much of a surprise that he is looking to connect with his community. Before the big event, the Grammy-nominated artist expressed his excitement over Twitter:

I love LA babyy!! Throwing out the first pitch and performing for my @Dodgers today!! pic.twitter.com/wNhMZSdTd0

Known for cake flinging at his shows, it wasn’t surprising that Aoki warmed up his throwing arm a bit differently than most. After throwing down a set on top of the Dodgers dugout, left-handed Aoki then threw a baseball- sized cake from the mound. It seems as though Aoki should stick to the studio, as the baseball and cake fell short of the home plate. While he may not have pitched a perfect strike, he certainly had the fans going wild.

Jarrad Seng, in wake of the numerous cat-calling videos that have surfaced around the world, took the hilarious opportunity to be the “Steve Aoki” look-alike the crowd totally needed. Throughout the three hour escapade, which is cut down into a three minute video, Seng is seen cruising the festival grounds poising for selfies, raging in the crowd, and even singing happy birthday to “himself” while Steve Aoki plays live on stage.

This hilarious video is a must watch and goes to show you, don’t always judge a book by its cover, it could be Steve Aoki’s doppelgänger!
