Zeds Dead – Back Home ft. Freddie Gibbs

The Zeds Dead guys are true veterans of the scene. They’ve been around for several years, gathering support from most of the top DJs in the world and releasing big tunes on major labels such as Spinnin’ Records and Mad Decent. They’ve toured around the world and have built up a massive following that keeps on growing with each new release and festival appearance. They have proven to be incredibly versatile by experimenting with a variety of genres and never really repeating the same thing. Many producers these days find their niche and stay there forever, but Zeds Dead isn’t afraid to leave its comfort zone.

“We told you we’ve been hard at work. New Music, New Label, New Album. Went into the studio with Freddie Gibbs to give you the first taste of DeadBeats.”

Zeds Dead has a lot of rap music in its repertoire, but ‘Back Home’ stands out to us due to its ambient and chill vibes, with Freddie Gibbs‘ rhymes being the icing on the cake. All in all, the song, which is the first release on Zeds Dead’s newly-formed label, Deadbeats, is a well-produced track that could be listened to in pretty much any environment.

MYNGA – Back Home ft. Cosmo Klein (Kayliox Remix)

Canadian based duo, Francis Raymond and Matthieu-Charles Laprise-Lamy, better known as Kayliox, appear to be delving into the world of future house with ease and praise. The emerging DJ/Producer pair has recently been inducted to Buygore’s Management and continues churn out groovy remixes.

Their latest remix of MYNGA’s ‘Back Home’ demonstrates that the newcomers can give any track a future house makeover. They add to the short list of other official remixes released by the label, though their really remix stands out from the rest. Kayliox transforms the original track by adding just the right amount of bass and choppiness to further accentuate the sax interlude and vocals. A dramatic drop gives the track a kick in the pants and pulls in listeners further. It’s no wonder the two have gained support from all star future acts like Oliver Heldens. We eagerly await more remixes and hopefully an original from this talented pair.

Back Home (Caribou Cover) – Feed Me

Here’s a track we didn’t see coming. Sotto Voce label head, Feed Me, just released a brooding new cover of Caribou’s ‘Back Home’. The UK producer explains the motivation behind the tune in his own words one his Soundcloud: “I have loved Caribou’s music for a long time so I sang and produced this my own way for fun”.

Feed Me takes the fairly subdued Caribou original and churns out an even darker, minimal deep house tune. Gooch’s trademark burly synths are all ever-present, layered underneath a basic kick drum pattern that gives the tune some bounce. The synths continuously build into a chorus, which features Feed Me’s very own vocals from the original (though they now take the role of a sample).

It’s incredibly refreshing to see an artist like Feed Me take a risk musically, just for the love of another artist. Feed Me also links the listeners to Carbou’s album stating that he himself “recommends it.” We recommend you check out both Feed Me’s ‘Back Home’ and the original by clicking here.
