Lady Gaga fans are surely thrilled right now as their idol conquers new horizons, however, this comes at the expense of our scene. The bottom line here is that artists from the specific genre should win those prizes. It would be quite cool for an artist to win every genre but that’s not how it works. Lady Gaga is a Pop artist, and she doesn’t try to be an EDM artist. She just released music produced by actual EDM artists.

We don’t really have expectations concerning EDM at awards shows anymore, but this takes the cake. It’s a shame that our vibrant and diverse music scene is so rarely explored in the pop culture realm. Maybe one day we’ll get the respect we deserve.

This year, Avicii was nominated for 4 awards, including Producer of the Year. He won 2 Grammis – ‘SOS‘ (feat. Aloe Blacc) won Song of the Year, and TIM won Electro/Dance Album of the Year. Avicii’s colleague and friend, Albin Nedler, along with his father, Klas Berling, received the award in Avicii’s place.

Fun fact: the American producer discovered this incredible accomplishment through Twitter, not to mention, he didn’t even realize that it was submitted for consideration!

“I was ecstatic, to be honest…I basically found out from Twitter…I just never once considered it as a real possibility at all…something about how vastly it exceeded my expectations,” he said. “It was really gratifying.”

The Chapel Hill-native has gained worldwide recognition and earned a lengthy list of successes ever since his full-length studio album, Worlds, was released on August 12, 2014.

There is no stopping this creative genius from taking home the win on February 10, 2019, however, he will be up against some tough competition!

The Best Dance Recording category also includes Disclosure‘s ‘Ultimatum‘, Fisher‘s ‘Losing It‘, Above & Beyond‘s ‘Northern Soul‘, and Silk City‘s ‘Electricity‘.

The 2016 American Music Awards aired Sunday with a packed line up of stars like Ariana Grande, Zayn Malik, Justin Bieber, and more. The Chainsmokers represented the EDM world with a performance of their hit “Closer”, and it even featured a guest performance of the T-Mass remix from Travis Barker.

With what was probably no surprise to many, The Chainsmokers took home the AMA for Favorite Electronic Dance Music Artist. They went up against heavy-hitters Major Lazer and Calvin Harris, who won the award for Favorite EDM Artist last year.

This is a big step for electronic music, as the genre is rarely represented during the main telecast. The dance/electronic awards are typically presented during the pre-telecast, which can be streamed online. Jack Ü is in pretty good company though, as past electronic music performers include Daft Punk, deadmau5 and David Guetta. Adele, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Lady Gaga and Ellie Goulding will also be performing during the 58th edition of the Grammy Awards. The ceremony will take place on February 15th in Los Angeles and can be seen on CBS.

The DJ/producer just won Best Electronic Act at MTV’s 2015 EMAs. MTV’s European Music Awards took place this Sunday and Garrix beat out superstars like Avicii, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, and Major Lazer, by way of fans votes, to take home the award. Overall, it seems to be a good month for Garrix, as he placed an impressive 3rd in the much maligned DJ Mag Top 100 poll (up 1 spot from last year), and now has another trophy to add to his shelf.
