From Melodic, Bouncy, Hard, Psy, Hypnotic, Minimal, Hard Groove, Acid, Dark, and more, Awakenings showcases contemporary and classic beats that get ahold of the dancefloor each time. Each year, the festival gathers musically educated fans and unleashes top-notch production. This year is no different. From the massive names such as 999999999 and Adam Beyer, to hidden gems such as Samoh and Rene Wise, industry leaders and rising stars will take over Hilvarenbeek. The festival location sits within the border with Belgium.

Standout names include Label leaders Amelie Lens, Indira Paganotto, Nina Kraviz, Charlotte de Witte, Anetha, Boris Brejcha, Dax J, Ben Klock, and more. Moreover, Drumcode has a heavy presence this year with representatives such as Mha Iri, Bart Skils, Joris Voorn, Kevin de Vries, Joyhauser, Chris Avantgarde, and Innellea.

Awakenings has a strong emphasis on Hypnotic, Raw Techno from the likes of Len Faki, Ignez, Yanamaste x Chlär, Rødhåd, Lacchesi, Freddy K, Richie Hawtin, Vladimir Dubyshkin, and SHDW. As the BPMs increase, so does our excitement for acts including I Hate Models, Adrian Mills, Elli Acula, Fatima Hajji, Nico Moreno, Future 666 x ÜBERKIKZ, Cloudy, Novah, Azyr, and Bad Boombox.

Nonetheless, the lineup also represents absolute melodies and divine joy. Major names include Miss Monique, Benja x Franc Fala, Adriatique, Mahmut Orhan x Shimza, and more.

House

Naturally, Awakenings gives us groove and rhythm with a stacked House lineup as well. Highlights include Josh Baker, East and Dubs x Vintage Culture, Adam Ten, Joseph Capriati, Marco Carola, Wade, Gordo, Mau P, and Max Dean x Prospa.

Obviously, the utmost concern for Awakenings was the safety of all, and the forecast could not guarantee that. People were urged to stay at home for the last day, which included performances from artists like Adam Beyer, Adriatique, Amelie Lens, Ben Böhmer Chloé Caillet, Enrico Sangiuliano, Honey Dijon, Hot Since 82, Joseph Capriati, Kevin de Vries, Stephan Bodzin, and Tale Of Us, to name a few. It goes without saying that attendees were very disappointed by the news.

Moreover, for people on the campsite, special instructions were issued to ensure their safe departure. Awakenings Summer Festival arranged for free shuttle buses to transport campers to Tilburg Station. For those without alternative accommodations, an evacuation center was established.

Awakenings later confirmed that everyone made it out safely. In the coming days, the event’s organizers will communicate with fans that had tickets for Sunday to provide “details regarding suitable solutions”. To make matters worse, the weather ended up being fine after all, but it was too late for the festival Sunday. The festival put out a statement today apologizing for the situation, by standing by the call.

Nastia has been previously vocal of her criticism for Russian techno icon Nina Kraviz. Kraviz had adopted a neutral stance of relative silence on the Russian invasion of Ukraine in the form of a statement last month post backlash over her silence on the issue. Awakenings sees Kraviz perform this year.

Nastia claims that silence on the Russian actions is equivalent to supporting the cause of it. Without naming the Russians she was referring to, Nastia cites her position as a Ukrainian citizen as a priority. She justifies this position as more important than her business and career. Nastia had also stated that she had reinstated her fund for Ukraine campaign. This included donating the entire fees that she was supposed to earn from Awakenings to the cause.

Awakenings Festival is a techno music festival held in Spaarnwoude Houtrak, just outside of Amsterdam. It brings the biggest names to The Netherlands and also holds events all over the country. This ranges from the Dutch Capitals favourite Gashouder to the scenic forest setting Spaarnwoude. 2022 sees the likes of Jeff Mills, Amelie Lens, Hector Oaks, Floorplan and more perform.

It seems like the start of 2022 is the announcement season for this year’s festivals. Awakenings isn’t an exception with its 130+ artists announcement. In the list, we find some major scene names such as Charlotte de Witte, Joyhauser, Joris Voorn, ANNA, Tale Of Us, Sven Väth, Kölsch, Adam Beyer, and many more.

If you are a fan of the Dutch festival and the techno scene, this is the perfect event for you. Awakenings has been a major player, gathering the best names across the techno labels and subgenres. In addition, for its 25th birthday and after all the covid cancellations, Awakenings has definitely something in store for its fans.

If you want to join the big party this summer, this is your last chance to preregister to have early access to the ticket shop. The link for pre-registration is still open for the upcoming 24 hours. Pre-register sale will start on Thursday, February 24 at 12:00 CET. Voucher owners will have even earlier access tomorrow February 17 to get their tickets. The general sale will be on March 1st. On December 14th, Dutch Prime Mark Rutte and Health Minister Hugo de Jonge announced that the current evening lockdown would remain intact in the Netherlands. This would be in effect until (at least) January 14. The so-called evening lockdown rules were due to lift on December 19, just in time for the Christmas holidays. However, the latest update confirms that the current restrictions will remain in place throughout the festive season. These lockdowns force businesses besides grocery stores and pharmacies to close around 5PM and “essential” businesses to close around 8PM. Therefore, there is once again no nightlife allowed in The Netherlands.

A tightening of the Dutch restrictions in order to curb the spread of COVID-19 and Omicron was always on the cards. Awakenings NYE being tossed leaves a temporary pall of gloom in the techno community. The likes of Amelie Lens and Sam Paganini have expressed their grief as well. However, with a landmark year for the festival scheduled in the future, we all hope the phase is only temporary.

Awakenings Stages

Awakenings Summer Festival 2022 will host nine stages, a combination of open air areas and tents, and will make use of the adjacent lake. With an added day, Awakenings now has more room for music. This opens up the stage for more multiple sub-genres and young and upcoming talent tol be represented at the festival. For campers, there will be an additional schedule, jam-packed with surprises.

Awakenings Festival started as a single day event, and  expanded to two days in 2014. But, we felt like there was still room for more, especially because the community had so much to say about missing a multiple day techno event here in the Netherlands. With this renewed concept, we’re extremely happy to make that dream come to life.”

The lineup for Awakenings Summer Festival 2022 will be out at the end of January, along with the start of official ticket sales. Festival-goers will have the option to choose full-weekend tickets covering all three days, as well as a single day tickets. The campsite options will contain different levels, including tent camping, pre-set up tents, and luxury bungalows. You can pre-register to purchase tickets here. Details for the second 2022 festival will be released on Monday, November 22nd via Awakenings social channels.

Just yesterday, the Dutch government announced further restrictions on the industry, deciding to keep nightclubs closed until November. Festivals are of course included in this. Amsterdam Dance Event, the biggest festival in the Netherlands, may not happen again this year. The government prematurely promised that events would take place again once a certain number of vaccinations were reached. They did not realize, among most of us, that the Delta Variant could circumvent the vaccine. This has led to a surge in numbers in the Netherlands.

Some of the largest festivals in the world, which are located in the Netherlands, are supporting the protest. This includes Amsterdam Open Air, DGTL, Awakenings, and ADE. The protest will take place across the biggest cities in the Netherlands. Young festival-goers who just want to dance will be at the forefront of the march.

There is a dedicated website to the protest which you can check out here. A detailed statement on the website depicts the power people can have:

“With ‘Unmute Us’ we make a fist. We are sending out a clear signal to The Hague: it can no longer be done like this, we will not be silenced. The sector asks for a clear plan for the future, with measurable agreements, but also for recognition of the emotional state of the many visitors and makers who do not feel heard. We want to be able to meet again, laugh, and dance again. Above all, we want to be able to look ahead again.“
