Arno Cost – Coming Alive EP

Arno Cost had a breakout year in 2015, releasing tracks on Interscope, Armada, Sosumi and Protocol Recordings. The Parisian producer’s diligence has been rewarded, as he recently released his inaugural EP on Nicky Romero‘s, Protocol Recordings. The EP entitled, Coming Alive, features two tracks, each with distinctive styles that flawlessly showcase Arno Cost’s new musical direction. Cost has already built a reputable name for himself in the French electronic dance music realm, and Coming Alive affirms that the Parisian producer is here to stay.

Coming Alive is Protocol’s first EP consisting of multiple tracks, and features two tracks, “1000 Suns” and title track, “Coming Alive“. “1000 Suns” embodies and showcases the Progressive House melodies that Arno Cost has recently started to experiment with, while “Coming Alive”, which features the vocals of River, encompasses the euphoric house harmonies Arno Cost has been recognized for.

Coming Alive marks a new musical direction for Arno Cost, but Protocol Recordings. The EP is the first House signing to the coveted label, as Protocol is yearning to expand their musical horizons and embody a broader scope of musical genres. Stream Arno Cost’s inaugural EP, Coming Alive below, and purchase the EP in the link below.

Blinders and Florian Picasso’s mix contains material exclusively from Protocol artists such as Deniz Koyu, Arno Cost, Volt & State and of course, Nicky Romero himself. The mix also contains two upcoming releases from the mixers, “You Don’t Know” produced by Blinders and “Final Call” produced by Florian Picasso. The hour-long compilation features a seductive collection of house music that is sure to prepare listeners for the start of Miami Music Week. Protocol will be hosting their annual event March 19th at Icon Miami with a roster featuring Nicky Romero, Deniz Koyu, Arno Cost, YVESV, Florian Picasso, Blinders, and special guests. Tickets for the event may be purchased here.

In addition to the mix, Florian Picasso and Blinders graciously took the time to speak with us in a brief interview.

B: Blinders

FP: Florian Picasso

1.You are on the talent roster to perform as part of Protocol Recordings in Miami March 19th. What measures do you take in order to prepare for a set?

B: It’s all about what kind of music we love to play. Our set will contain a lot of groovy stuff and also some fresh music from me and Florian.

FP: In a club set, you gotta feel the crowd, it’s different than a festival set. I preselect trackS but there is no specific order.

2.When selecting material for a set, what characteristics do you look for in tracks? Are there elements you actively seek out, or is it more subjective?

B: There is an unwritten rule which tells me always to play what I treat as a few minutes of dope-ness. So when I prepare for my dj sets I always look for this feeling. It can be anything – if it fits it’s good!

FP: It’s very subjective, first it depends on where and when you’re playing and who is playing before and after you. For the Protocol Miami night, it’s a friendly night so you want to keep it fun!

3.Ultra has been dubbed the “start” of festival season. What is / are your favourite aspect(s) of festival season?

B: I think it’s a fact that people all around the world coming to one place, for one moment just to enjoy the music all night (or day) long like you can’t do for such a large scale in any club. That’s the way I like it.

FP: New music !!! 🙂

4.What are the top three festivals you wish to play during the course of your career?

B: I would enjoy Ultra, EDC or Coachella a lot!

FP: That’s a difficult one but I would say: Coachella, Lolapalooza, EDC.

5.You debuted an original track in the compilation. What else can we expect from you in 2016?

B: I’m trying a lot of new sounds in my productions right now. So I would say a lot of fresh propositions from me.

FP: I have a lot of new music that is getting released between now and this summer and a lot of shows, my work is finally starting to pay off 🙂

6.The compilation contains a Miami edit for your original track, “Want It Back”, which truly encompasses Miami’s nostalgia. How important is it to you to “read” your audience and make such alterations?

FP: Origami was and is still my strongest track, I tried to refresh it and add this nostalgia flavour without killing the vibe.

7.You started your career with a lot of remixes and bootlegs. What are some of the criteria you look for in a track to remix? What are standout qualities that prompt you to remix a track?

B: I think the main part of a song is a vocal. It’s something that will tell you that it’s a remake of something that exists. You just give it a totally new spin. If I really like it there is a chance that I will find a really great idea for it.

Arno Cost – Return

As one of the many wonderful artists to come out of Paris, Arno Cost strives to turn electronic music into works of art that are reminiscent of his hometown. Combining disco, house, and pop into a soulful symphony, his newest single “Return” embodies the life and luster that is Paris. His career has blossomed this year with releases such as “Coming Home“, “Rising Love” which won an Insomniac-sponsored remix contest, and a collaboration with WAVO entitled “At Night“. However, the launching of his radio show When In Paris is perhaps the most significant example of how much his career has grown in such a short time. The show held live events, personally curated by Cost himself, at this year’s Amsterdam Dance Event and in his hometown. Grab a download of this Frenchman’s new single and keep an eye out for him in the near future.
Now Cost brings you his latest, this time a brand new solo production, ‘Coming Home,’ featuring singer James Newman.

James Newman is the older brother of singer John Newman, whose name you may recognize as the man behind the vocals of Calvin Harris’ top Beatport hit ‘Blame.’ Cost’s uplifting progressive production style perfectly compliments the older Newman’s breathtaking vocals; ‘Coming Home’ is a classic progressive tune, and should remain on your playlists for the rest of the summer. Released today through Armada Records, you can check out ‘Coming Home’ on YouTube below, and make sure to head over to Beatport to grab a copy for yourself.

Arno Cost & Norman Doray – Rising Love Ft. Mike Taylor

Lately, French Duo Arno Cost & Norman Doray have been going dance crazy, dropping tracks made for summer festivals. They re-emerge together once again to release ‘Rising Love,’ their rock-y jump up and down dance track. It’s quite a difference from when they first collaborated back in 2007 with progressive house track ‘Apocalypse,’ hence the updated 2014 version. Heck it’s also a far cry from their most recent release ‘Paradisco‘ where they, obviously, spotlight disco. A bit of the disco sound can be heard underneath the heavy house progression and piano in ‘Rising Love,’ but not as fully as the latter. Mike Taylor, an alternative pop artist, lends his raspy vocals against the hard house back drop of the track, which tries to swallow him, but Taylor undeniably fights back. It’s an easy to follow track that just makes you want to start the summer with immediacy.

What a pleasant surprise it is when you log onto SoundCloud and are gifted with news of free music. Arno Cost and Arias are the givers and their gift to us is “At Night”, a beautiful progressive tune that will be available as a free download on February 17th.

For someone boasting less than 2,000 followers on his SoundCloud page, Arias has collaborated on a few massive dance hits that would make you think he’s a longtime veteran. Arno Cost, on the other hand, has been around the block once or twice and he’s got an ear for talent. He recruited his fellow countryman Arias and the two men out of France impress on “At Night”, smoothly blending the un-credited vocals with their infusion of blissful melodies. You can check out the preview of “At Night” below and make sure to head to either Arno Cost’s or Arias’ SoundCloud on the 17th to grab your free copy!

Once again the two Brits, Kryder & Tom Staar, have worked their magic and delivered a remix that is set to rock the dance floor. It is no easy task when you are faced with editing a classic track such as Arno Cost & Norman Doray’s “Apocalypse 2014” but just like the other times with “Don’t You Worry Child”, “H8ers” and “Ping Pong”, Kryder & Tom Staar managed to stamp their authority on the track by adding their signature groovy and progressive beats, which makes it tough for any progressive DJs looking to explode a crowd into life to leave out this track in their sets. For all those out there who have been anticipating this release for awhile, it is finally out on Spinnin’ Records and you can now grab a copy of this remix on Beatport.
