If you have been following Grant Kwiecinski’s career over the last year plus, then you probably already know he’s been going through some of his own personal struggles. Following the release of his last full body of work Chasing the Golden Hour Pt. 2 last September, GRiZ basically disappeared from the public eye. He cleared all of his social media channels, and all we’ve heard from him since was in the form of two spoken word poems, “Till Next Time…Take Care” in February, and “No Signal” in August. The two poems spoke of the toxic effects technology and social media can have on an individual, and essentially acted as a way to let his fans know that we might not be hearing from GRiZ for a little while.

After a much deserved break that we can only hope resulted in Grant getting back to a better mental space, GRiZ is back with not one, but two new singles. “It Gets Better” is a sultry piano and saxophone based jam featuring DRAM on the verses with a children’s choir providing the hook–a unique inclusion that GRiZ has used in the past (Hear: The Anthem).

“Can’t Get Enough” features GRiZ’s vocals on his own track for the first time along with a bluesy rhythm and a heavier glitchy drop. The two tracks provide a nice and contrasting range of sounds for the two types of GRiZ fans: the newer fans who dig the funkier more saxophone based beats, and the veteran fans of the heavier so called “old shit.” GRiZ has been teasing a Facebook Live Stream for these releases for the last few days on his social channels and website, but nobody knew for sure exactly what the Live Stream would contain. Now that the stream has concluded, GRiZ surprised us all with lyric videos for each tune, in addition to an interview with the man himself. You can see both videos below.

The next question for GRiZ fans is, what comes next? Fans know (or seem to believe) an album is completed or at least close to it, but have no indication of when it will come. Will these singles be on the album or is this a standalone double release? While there are many questions and little answers at this point, for now you can enjoy the first taste of GRiZ in over a year. You can stream and download “It Gets Better” and “Can’t Get Enough” below.

Fans of three-piece Australian live-electronic outfit RÜFÜS DU SOL can finally exhale their collectively held breathe, SOLACE has arrived. SOLACE represents a darker thematic shift in the band’s songwriting, tackling themes of depression and introspection, while still remaining true to what got them here in the first place: infectious deep house grooves, melodic breakdowns and an atmospheric presence from start to finish.

RÜFÜS DU SOL has experienced a steady rise to becoming one of the most successful and influential live-electronic bands in recent memory. Following their platinum certified albums Atlas in 2013 and Bloom in 2016, SOLACE is set to launch them into the stratosphere and cement their place in music history.

Comprised of vocalist and guitarist Tyrone Lindqvist, keyboardist Jon George, and drummer James Hunt, the band now calls California home, and spent much of the last year writing the album from their home studio on Rose Avenue in Venice Beach. The trio largely used the beautiful and drastically contrasting landscapes of California’s beaches and deserts as inspiration for the album, but also credit their customized home studio as just what they needed to enhance their creative output.

In a fantastic feature piece written by Valerie Lee for Mixmag, the group detailed how the space came together while they worked on the album:

“A friend of ours – a shaman of sorts – came in one day, with a compass in his hand, and started sizing up the room. Over the course of six weeks he brought in different things – shells from the ocean, branches from a Joshua tree – and transformed it into a trippy space. It was indulgent, but we needed it – to get lost in it.” – James Hunt

In order to create SOLACE, the group essentially started from scratch. They deleted their sample pack, and entered the studio with nothing but their hands, instruments, and the inspirations on the wall. “It forced us to think outside the box, and allowed us to be a bit more free,” explained Tyrone Lindqvist (Mixmag).

SOLACE is made up of nine tracks, power packed with some of the most emotional lyricism you’ll ever hear. The storytelling is top-notch, and just might cause you to shed a tear or two. Not only is SOLACE one of the best electronic albums of the year, it deserves recognition as one of the best albums of the year, period.

Rufus will be embarking on a world tour to support the album, including three sold out stops at Los Angeles’ Shrine Expo Hall and New York’s Terminal 5, and one stop on New Year’s Day at The Domain in their hometown of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Please read Valerie Lee’s Mixmag feature piece on RÜFÜS DU SOL here for a deeper dive into the sonic world of SOLACE, and please enjoy the record in its entirety below, out now on Rose Avenue / Reprise Records.

For the last several years, Greg Jones, aka G Jones, has been carving out his own special niche within the electronic music world. Throughout his career and ascent in the industry he has never followed the latest trends or cut corners; he has stuck with making the music that he has wanted to make, and the results are apparent in the singles he has released from his upcoming debut album The Ineffable Truth. There’s no doubt G Jones has arrived, and is ready to take you on a journey through his mind when the album drops in late October. Today, we were blessed with the fourth and final single from The Ineffable Truth, titled, “That Look in Your Eye.”

Here’s what Jones had to say about the new single:

“That Look In Your Eye is one of the last songs I wrote for The Ineffable Truth and also one of my personal favorites on the album. I want to give a special shout to my friend Victor Mosquera who created the beautiful art for the single as well as the animated video assets for the live show.” – G Jones

Each new G Jones release is genuinely unique, something we don’t see enough of in the current dance music climate. Having heard him play out many of the new songs from the album, Jones manages to craft tunes that are vastly different from each other while still telling a cohesive story. “That Look in Your Eye” is the last we will hear from G Jones until the rest of the album drops next month on Jones’ own imprint Illusory Records. You can take a listen below, and stay tuned for the rest of The Ineffable Truth at the end of October.

When Justin Jay released his latest album Home in late 2017, he took his fans on a musical journey that fully encapsulated his all worldly talent level and musicianship. Now, just about a year after that release, Jay has returned with a full slate of Home Remixes for your listening pleasure.

Among those featured on the 12-track remix album, Walker & Royce’s remix of ‘Time’ is probably the most highly anticipated, as it’s frequently been getting rinsed by several artists at Dirtybird events and elsewhere for the better part of the year. Also making appearances are familiar names Christian Martin, Will Clarke and several of his Fantastic Voyage collaborators and bandmates Benny Bridges, Sam Von Horn and Danny G.

While the original version of the album displayed what makes Justin Jay so special as an all around artist, these 12 remixes are mostly representative of the sound Justin Jay curates for his tech-house sets. Additionally, Dirtybird is a tight knit crew, and does a great job of bringing along up-and-coming and unheard of talent. Besides giving Jay himself a fresh arsenal of material to work with in his sets, we’ll surely be hearing more music from the lesser known artists he featured on the album in the near future. You can check out all of the Home (Remixes) below.

Elements Music & Arts Festival NYC got off to a slightly tough start due to severe weather plaguing the entire east coast, but managed to finish strong late into the New York evening. The early portion of the day saw the main Earth Stage remain shutdown from the start of the festival until 7pm due to an east coast lightning warning and periodic rain, causing attendees to have to choose between braving the not-so-lovely weather at the Fire Stage or waiting it out at the indoor Water Stage.

Many partygoers braved the elements with the Dirtybird Players at the Fire Stage, while the Water Stage hosted New York based Dirty Looks and The Golden Pony, followed by SNBRN and Goldfish. When the Earth Stage finally opened, Subtronics came out of the gates hard, playing by far the heaviest set of the day. With the entire festival primed for Bassnectar to take the stage, Portland, Oregon based downtempo producer Emancipator (aka Doug Appling) impressed with a smooth and incredibly engaging set featuring his violinist alongside. After an inauspicious start to the festival, Subtronics and Emancipator completely erased the problems the festival faced earlier in the day, effectively warming up the crowd for the chaos that was about to ensue.

Subtronics at Elements Music & Arts Festival; Photo by Andrew Rauner

As he tends to do, Bassnectar threw down an epic set as well, complete with a monstrous New York City themed intro track. He played several songs from his brand new EP Reflective (Part 3), and several of his most popular songs including Speakerbox and TKO. He ended his set on an emotional note with a short tribute to the recently cancer-free Rusko, followed by his new remix of Rusko’s ‘High.’

The end of the night saw Jade Cicada and Snakehips close down the Water Stage, while Justin Jay hit us with an epic finale to the Dirtybird Players takeover at the Fire Stage; he even kept the party going for 45 extra minutes after his scheduled end time.

Overall, despite having no main stage performances for half of the festival, The storm cleared just in time for each headliner to perform on their assigned outdoor stages, rather than the real possibility of being moved inside. Elements weathered the storm as well as they could and the show went on, providing New York electronic music fans another year of fantastic music.

If young, up and coming Australian bass producer Godlands—born Annabel Hartlett—isn’t on your radar yet, it’s about time you check her out. With her third release of the year ‘Wild‘, Godlands has had one hell of a 2018 with still plenty of time to keep the momentum going.

While she still falls under the relative unknown category, her productions warrant some greater attention. her prior release “Pleasures” was her most streamed track to date, and is also worthy of a listen.

Godlands’ sound draws a legitimate comparison to sensational future-trap duo Boombox Cartel. If that gives you any indication of her sound, you’ll definitely enjoy all the tunes she’s put out so far. Take a listen to her latest single ‘Wild’ below, and keep an eye on Godlands as she continues to rise in the industry.

Just two days ago, Snails posted to his social media accounts revealing that he has been working on a brand new tour with all new stage production, new tour support, and a ton of new music. Well, he didn’t make us wait very long, as the dates for his epic new tour “The Shell 2.0” are now available.

Beginning with his Red Rocks festival Sluggtopia on October 5th, Snails will be making stops basically everywhere throughout the entire North American continent. There’s really not much else we can say about this tour other than its massive. Snails has already proven himself to be an absolute monster within the realm of bass music, and this tour will only serve to strengthen his case as one of the best bass music artists in the world. Cookie Monsta, Svdden Death, Ubur, Hekler, Liquid Stranger and Voyd have been announced as tour support so far, with two more names still blurred out on the poster (12th Planet appears to be one of them).

Tickets for “The Shell 2.0” are available now on Snails’ website. Check out all the cities he will be hitting below, we promise one will be somewhere near you.

Over a year after the release of his summer 2017 EP Rott N’ Roll Pt. 1, the UK’s number one dubstep import Zomboy has dropped the likely first single from the EP’s sequel, “Rebel Bass.”

“Rebel Bass” kicks off with an eery buildup befitting of a Zomboy track. Just before it drops the words “Rebel bass this is Armageddon” ring through the speakers, igniting the typical chaos we expected. The first drop leaves us thirsty for more, and we get just that throughout the rest of the song. Each breakdown brings more into the fold, and the energy only increases as the song progresses.

In the caption of his Instagram post announcing the release of the song, the words “Rebel Bass” were replaced with “Rott N’ Roll,” a simple and seemingly harmless marketing tactic that gets us excited that we’ll be hearing more new music from Zomboy in the near future. With “Rebel Bass” being only his second original release in the past calendar year, and a headline appearance at Excision’s inaugural Bass Canyon music festival this weekend, we can only infer that those lucky enough to attend will be hearing more of the new music he’s certainly been keeping under wraps.

Take a listen to “Rebel Bass” below, and stay tuned for hopefully news of more Zomboy very soon.

Lowtemp Music signee and Gramatik protégé Will Magid, otherwise known as Balkan Bump, has seen his career take off since he was discovered by the Slovenian electro-funk producer in mid-2017. Immediately seeing something special in his new signee, Gramatik released their collaboration ‘Aymo‘ last October, and took Balkan Bump with him on his Re:Coil tour along with Haywyre. Balkan Bump took advantage of being able to spend so much time with such talented musicians, and one of the results of that experience is his new single “Give Me Something to Funk” featuring Kelly Finnigan.

Released today, Magid had this to say about the new tune: “This song is a direct result of touring with Gramatik and Haywyre. As a matter of fact, I recorded most of it on our tour bus…Sometimes I would walk towards the bus with a strut, grooving in my mind to make-believe future songs. One night the groove in my soul was so infectious I had to record it.”

In addition to the fantastic vocals laid down by Kelly Finnigan, Gramatik’s touring guitarist Adam Stehr also contributed to the creation of the track. The groove on “Give Me Something to Funk” is undeniable, as it has been on every single Balkan Bump release to date. His shows on the Re:Coil tour impressed both audiences and his musical peers enough to keep the momentum going into this fall, when he will play a full slate of tour dates with Beats Antique, CloZee, and Russ Liquid, as well as one more very special show with Gramatik at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on September 1st.

Take a listen to the groovy “Give Me Something to Funk” below, and check out Balkan Bump’s tour dates to see if he’ll be hitting your city in the coming months!
