Four Tet And Ellie Goulding Collaborate On ‘In My Dreams’

Four Tet and Ellie Goulding have teamed up once again for the former’s latest track, ‘In My Dreams’. Out now via Three Six Zero Recordings, ‘In My Dreams’ serves as the sequel collaboration between Four Tet and Ellie Goulding after the British Electro-Pop star vocalist appeared on the Electronic music veteran’s track, ‘Baby’, from his 2020 album, Sixteen Oceans. Furthermore, the release of the track also comes after another collaboration in the form of the producer releasing his remix of the vocalist’s ‘Easy Lover’ back in 2022. That remix then earned him a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Remixed Recording’. According to an article from Pitchfork, the road to the production and release of this track started off Ellie Goulding texting Four Tet at the end of the last year about song notes and story ideas.

Fast forward to this past weekend, the track is now out and it has a wicked rhythmic loop that perfectly matches the stereo-enhancing bass. These unique sounds also equally merge fantastically with the percussive additions of bells and chimes and Goulding’s impactful vocals. Additionally, the vocals and the percussion really set the tone of the track. Four Tet Recalls How ‘In My Dreams’ Was Born

Four Tet describes how he began working with Ellie Goulding on ‘In My Dreams’, saying “At the end of last year, Ellie texted me with a couple of voice notes for a song idea. Words and melodies she was singing into her phone and she asked me if I could use them to make something. She’s told me in the past she likes to send me vocals that I can just use as sound and turn into whatever I want (which is how the track ‘Baby’ happened a few years ago). I found other sounds to go with it and made ‘In My Dreams’“.

She added some new vocal parts but we ended up keeping the voice note recordings as the main vocal. I guess the first take is often the most magical.
