A New Avicii Documentary Is Being Developed By Oscar-Winning Producer

Academy Award-winning producer Lawrence Bender is currently working on a new documentary about Avicii.

Renowned for his extensive work with filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, Bender expressed his excitement to Variety about narrating the story of the late Swedish DJ. For the production of the documentary, he decided to bring on board Orlando John, who is co-directing with Jonas Trukanas.

As the mastermind behind projects such as Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, Bender stated, “What got me excited was not just the story of Avicii, but also the take Orlando had as a director. It’s that take that’s going to make this eye-opening.”

Orlando John, a Dutch talent manager who manages Wyclef Jean, remarked that Avicii brought a revolution in the music industry, and people only have a superficial understanding of his story. He believes it is his responsibility to tell the story with accuracy and objectivity. Through this documentary, John aims to give audiences a profound understanding of the brand that left a significant impact on the music and culture.

Tim Bergling, known by his stage name Avicii, passed away at the age of 28 by suicide in April 2018. A few months before his death, his friend Levan Tsikurishvili directed a documentary called Avicii: True Stories.

Tsikurishvili had documented Avicii’s career for several years, capturing noteworthy events that defined his journey as a DJ, including the moment he decided to retire from touring due to his struggle with mental health disorders in 2016. Tsikurishvili’s documentary rendered an intimate reflection into Avicii’s life, the demands of the music industry, and the challenges he was facing as one of the biggest stars in the world.

During the early 2010s, Avicii achieved enormous success with his popular tracks ‘Levels’ and ‘Wake Me Up’. He continued to produce several other hit songs including “Hey Brother,” “Addicted to You,” “Waiting for Love,” and “The Nights” among others, further solidifying his position as one of the most successful electronic music artists of his time.

In honor of Avicii’s legacy and his significant contributions to the music industry, many landmarks around the globe have been created as tributes to the late DJ. The opening of “The Avicii Experience” museum in Stockholm, the DJ’s native city, has been a major tourist attraction since its launch in 2021 as it continues to draw visitors from all over the world. The exhibition with the same name, which premiered in Space, Stockholm, in 2022, added more insights into the life and career of the celebrated DJ. Furthermore, a wind sculpture was erected in Stockholm in memory of Avicii, and the city’s biggest indoor music venue, formerly known as the Ericsson Globe, was renamed as the Avicii Arena to honour the legendary artist.

Unreleased videos emerged online recently showcasing Avicii’s headline performance at UNTOLD Festival in 2015 as well as never-before-seen footage of the popular track ‘Addicted To You’ at Ushuaïa Ibiza in 2016. Through the power of music, these videos have helped keep Avicii’s spirit alive, bringing joy and happiness to his fans in every corner of the world.
