Fred Again.. Reworks His Own Song With Feature From The Streets

The remix of Berwyn (all that i got is you) from Fred Again.. feels like a latte on a rainy day.

Fred Again.. is quickly becoming one of the most popular artists in electronic music. Between his current tour with Skrillex + Four Tet and surprisingly consistent releases, that’s not going away soon.

Fred Again.. is the dance music project of Fred Gibson, a platinum-holding record producer/songwriter. Fred has collaborated with a range of popular artists including Stormzy, Ed Sheeran, and FKA Twigs. With his unique blend of electronic beats, vocal samples, and emotive lyrics, Fred Again has become a rising star in the music industry, pushing the boundaries of what is possible with electronic dance music.

His newest song, ‘Mike (desert island duvet)‘ is actually a remix of… his own song, made into a rainy UK Garage beat. It directly samples Berwyn (all that i got is you), with Dermott Kennedy’s haunting vocals still setting the hook. This time around, The Streets joins the fold, giving the song a new voice.

Well, the voice itself isn’t so new.

The Streets is a London rapper. Despite taking a hiatus in 2011, The Streets’ frontman, Mike Skinner, made a comeback to music in 2018 with his album “The Darker the Shadow, The Brighter the Light”. The album marked a return to form for Skinner and was highly praised by critics.
His style can often be described as half-drunken British ramblings, akin to older Blur or The Libertines. This time, his voice is a bit more muted, solemn, matching Fred Again’s vibe. I’ve been a fan of both for a while, so seeing this unfold has been a treat.

The tape noise in the background, the UKG drums… They all fit so well, bringing me closer to my theory that Fred Again.. is (almost) as massive a Burial fan as I am.

To cap it off, here’s a clip of them recording.
