Eric Sharp is back in action, and we couldn’t be happier! The last time we wrote about Sharp, it was in December of 2021. This was in regards to his track ’Like Water’ off of his then-forthcoming EP. Today, we are happy to announce that Sharp’s Emergence EP is complete, and it is finally here! The Emergence EP features five tracks in total, with each bringing a distinct vibe. If you’re a fan of house music or just Eric Sharp, this is a release that you do not want to miss.
Emergence EP
As stated before, I previously wrote about ‘Like Water’, and absolutely loved it. When listening to the track, I couldn’t help but feel some heavy Camelphat vibes. With that said, the tune piqued my interest, leaving me eager to see what the remainder of the Emergence EP was going to sound like. It goes without saying that I was thoroughly impressed.
‘Scream & Shout‘ is the EP’s second tune, which is a collaboration with soulful vocalist Laurent John. This is a tune that easily blends house and techno into a vibrant, groovy soundscape. One that uses the track’s energy to evoke feelings of simmering frustration and protest. After giving it a listen yourself, I’m positive you can pick up on this vibe as well. ‘Scream & Shout‘ just might be my favorite tune off the EP, as it features ‘sharp’ production work, with the sensibilities of smooth pop music.
The last & final original collaboration on Emergence is ‘The Gift’ featuring Zhao. The tune features a powerful political statement on the commodification of art. In the process, ‘The Gift‘ blends techno with spoken-word poetry in a way that only Eric Sharp can. Prior to the release of the Emergence EP, ‘The Gift’ was previously released as a single. In the process, it has since then racked up over 50K streams across platforms. It is clear to see that the ‘The Gift’ is indeed a gift, and one that listeners have enjoyed receiving.
Extra, Extra
The EP caps off with two special renditions of Emergence’s original collaborations. Plus (the producer project of Kyle McCammon) transforms “Like Water” into an infectious groove. This is one featuring Jersey Club drum patterns and an 80s synth-pop atmosphere. Similarly, Sharp reworks “Scream & Shout” into his own dub version. This is a version that sees Sharp remove John’s vocals to further emphasize the song’s bass undertones. If you’re into dope remixes, these are two tracks that you do not want to miss out on.
