Coachella Skips Fall, Shifts to April 2022

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will be moving its October 2021 dates to April 2022. Variety reports two industry sources have shared knowledge on the situation with the publication.

The music festival, which takes place over two weekends, has yet to confirm if they will be making the move. If true, this will be the fourth time organizers have made a decision to reschedule the event.

In April 2020, organizers chose to move the festival to October 2020 due to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Afterward, with the pandemic still looming among the United States, the decision was made to postpone the event once again to April 2021.

Later, although never confirmed, there were reports the Coachella had moved to October 2021 after canceling the April dates. However, Elevate ticket holders received a cancelation email stating the event would not take place in April. Since then, the festival and its event promoters, Goldenvoice, have remained silent.

Coachella moves dates, once again, to 2022.

According to sources, the initial reason for the postponement to October is due to the ongoing uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although various events and festivals plan to take place this summer in the states, organizers are taking safety precautions. The festival sees a mass attendance each year, ranging from 100,000 attendees per day and each weekend.

“There’s a big difference between having two weekends of Coachella in California and throwing a country festival in Florida,” a source tells Variety.

Live Nation is expecting outdoor events to return in the U.S., beginning in late summer 2021. They rescheduled dates for three major festivals, including Glastonbury, which was later canceled this year.

Stay tuned for a possible announcement on Coachella’s move to April 2022.
