Is Tomorrowland Exploring a Third Weekend?

As 2020 draws to a close, dance music fans are looking at what is in store in 2021 with festivals including world-renowned Tomorrowland in Belgium. The festival’s website states that the 16th edition will take place over two weekends in summer 2021. But a Belgian newspaper has floated the idea that Tomorrowland may add a third weekend next year.

Le Soir published an article about Tomorrowland on Sunday and it got shared on Reddit. The story written in French claims that “the organizers even think about adding a third weekend to respond to the demand,” according to a translation by a Reddit user. However, the next sentence states that July is a way’s away and uncertain, and accordingly, festival organizers have planned Tomorrowland 31.12.2020. That is the New Year’s Eve livestream that Tomorrowland announced last week.

And right before stating that Tomorrowland organizers are pondering a third weekend for the festival in Boom, the story explains that people who purchased tickets for 2020 have had their passes transferred to 2021. That follows what is on the festival’s website. In addition, the site says, “The 16th edition of Tomorrowland will take place in the summer of 2021 and the dates will be July 16-18 and July 23-25.” There is no mention of a third weekend. So, as the Reddit user wrote, fans shouldn’t read into it too much—at least not yet.

Third Weekend Thoughts

Reddit users had a range of thoughts on the third weekend rumor. One user commented, “it’s true the organizers think to add a third weekend but I think the 2021 edition will be postponed again.” Another user opined that there will be a third weekend whenever the summer festival returns.

“Especially if it’s in 2022 or somehow later,” the user wrote, “It’s an easy way to try and get some money back as the market will be huge for it, I mean it already is but now with a minimum 1-year break and probably 2 it will be even bigger.”

The Le Soir story mainly discussed the digital versions of Tomorrowland and it is unclear if they actually spoke to the organizers. So fans will just have to wait and see.
